I get where you coming from dear, but Pride is not only for people who can't help what they are. its just a way to meet other Pagans and show the fact that we are not hiding in our religion. that we take pride in it and that we want to let others see that it isn't bad, evil, or false. you may have no idea what I'm babbling about but I tried lolz
I understand what you're saying. However, for me, it ISN'T a choice...my pagan path seems to be that of Druid, but I've only known that for the last few months. My entire life since I was a tiny kid I've been drawn to nature, rocks, trees, flowers, etc. and sensed energy when around them. I used to sit around and draw pentagrams almost to obseesion for not reason. I was always drawn to candles. So I think I was born into it-only now realized that it has a name and others who feel the same.
Glad to see you back again! Anyway...I am "out of the broomcloset" myself...but have never gone to any of the local Pagan Pride festivals..but I personally think it's OK to have them..or go to them..but I also see what your saying as well..that you can be proud and not flaunt it..or choose to just keep their spiritual path personal.
I think there are real similarities between the gay experience and the Pagan experience. True, being gay is not a choice and being Pagan is a choice. But the thing of being a minority, being persecuted, being closeted is similar. There are and have been more so in the past gay people who worked very hard to pass as straight to keep their job, to please their family, to avoid being killed... It is the same on a lesser scale with many of us Pagans. Both Pride days give us a chance to feel proud.
@DancingRabbit52 That is very true. These are the responses I was looking for! I knew it was similar but didn't know if "pride" was the proper word. I guess it is!
To me the term Pride means to be proud of who you are, i think...so going to a Pagan Pride Day is showing that we are proud to be Pagan and join together as a community or a group. I hope that makes sense. :)
The term Pride to me represents what we have overcome and strength. There are all kinds of Pride. Gay Pride, Philly Pride, Pride as in a group of Lions. It is a strong word to describe a feeling one has. But this is just what I believe. It gives more volume to the word Pagan. Blessed Be

I actually went to Pagan Pride today, oddly enough. I do think it is important to have a sort of "pride" day, simply to have a sense of community.
