Great stuff... as the late, great Joe Anthony used to remind us via the 99.5 KISS late nights in San Antonio: "This band simply kicks ass! Turn up your radio, now!"
i still got this on lp,got about 200 classic rock lps.they show years of playin time,we burnt em up back in the day..gonna give them to my son and daughter when i cash in my chips.
I'm a die hard Tommy Bolin fan...I never knew he layed down some tracks with Moxy...they we're our local heroes...along with Rush,Triumph, Max Webster and April Wine. I still have Teaser on vinyl...miss him!
This is a tune my buddy Jeff in Alabama would play over and over again when I went back to Alabama to visit. None of those folks ever heard of Moxy but this tune blew him away.
He died inna car accident a couple yrs later - so listening to this tune takes me back to cruizing to this tune with a damn good buddy of mine.
Thanx for posting these two tunes - Sail On Sail Away is such a happy - good mood kinda song...
@kmayb6569302 Sorry about your friend. My best friend & I were the only 2 people I knew in Houston that listened to Moxy. They came to town once & played at a little bar outside the Astrodome. We got there early expecting a big crowd. It was a very small crowd, but it didn't seem to phase them a bit. They put on a great show. It felt like they were playing just for us. It was special night.
Moxy had some problems with the lead guitar, they just couldent get it right. Tommy Bolin was in the studio next door recording the great TEASER album. They say he cut the solos in just one take. Peace and Love from Sweden.
Boy, this takes me waayyy back. Growing up in Toronto, I've seen these guys many times in high schools and the old Knob Hill in Scarborough.
Buzz Shearman had one of the finest voices around and had perfect pitch (much like Paul Rodgers of Free and Bad Company). I felt a deep loss when he died tragically in a motorcycle accident a number of years ago.
The lead singer of this Band, Buzz Shearman was considered to replace Bon Scott with AC/DC, but had voice problems then an untimely motorcycle wreck that took his life. In 2003, they toured with a diffeent singer. In the early 80's Mike RENOwski (Loverboy) replaced Buzz after he passed. The Band stemmed from another band called Leigh-Ashoford, (Toronto I believe). Maxy was an excellent band, with excellent song writing and singing, just an all arond awesome band.
Saw these guys back '76 at my high school, and when they finished playing, asked Earl Johnson which track Tommy Bolin played on he said "Train" something else...
when i was a kid i remember sneaking into my sisters room and taking this album and also the red album and playing them on my dads stero. the stero was so old it took bulbs, the turn table had settings for 33, 45, and 78
I've been curious about Moxy for years. I didn't really get overly excited about the two tracks included on "The Ultimate" box set but these songs are great. Tommy was such an amazing talent...
I saw these bands in 75 or 76 at the Allentown PA fairgrounds. Chumby, Moxy, Angel, Leslie West, and Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. I think it cost $6.00 How I long for those days.
Forgotten by some, never heard by others. This album would make my 69 Camaro haul ass and there was nothing I could do to reign it in! Ticketed in east Texas "Rockin' down the highway!"
I went from Kapuskasing to Cochrane to see Moxy back in the day. Seen Rush, Triumph, Goddo ans A Foot In Cold Water in Cochran back in the mid 70's to early 80's. Who was the guy who prmoted thes concerts?
i am old as dirt...an from TEXAS...thank ya thank ya...yall can set down now...hehehe...i seen MOXY in 76 at the RITZ theatre....loudest concert i ever seen...they rocked...i bought the black album rite off the bat...then it was II i thank...the one with train on it...i have searched high an low ta find MOXY on the net...nobody even balieves this band exists...trust me they are one of the best bands ever...an i have seen journey an rush an ac/dc at the same small place...MOXY jus ROCKS...
The Ritz in Corpus Christi? I used to rock out to the black album on the streets of the south side back in the day - attended Cullen Jr. High and King High School - left Corpus in Feb. 1981 and went to Alaska at the age of 18.
cullen mall died yrs bak..but from saratoga south has gone nuts...now we have concrete st station..outdoor venue..an american bank plaza...big big venue...keep in touch...tropical storm erin will be here in a few hrs...yikes....as long as the power dont go out ill be jammin ta MOXY...hehehe
Earl Johnson is on "Sail On" , Tommy Bolin plays on most all the other tracks though. Does anyone have any live video of MOXY , who also had AC/DC as their support on their first Texas tour...AC/DC's forst USA gig was Armadillo World HQ in Austin. MOXY is still around, see their website at 3w - moxy ca
Unidisc also carries several other "rare" Canadian artists like Triump, The Hunt. I beleive you may be able to view their availability on the web if you enter " Unidisc Music Inc" in your browser. Good luck
yes it is,it took long enough, but alot of fans of Moxy&tommy bolin wrote letters, phone calls, and petitions, also phoned local radio stations requesting to hear Moxy, and i think it worked.you can get the cd in Toronto,so just go to a majour record store and have it ordered.TRY HMV,they have it.
The debut album originally released in 1975 by Polydor for distributing in Canadian were picked up by many radio stations in the USA and was one of the most requested album in Texas and as consequence Moxy was picked-up by the larger Mercury Records label in the US and a national distribution deal was made and the album was reissued in 1976.
