Set is an unnamed country, this psychological thriller dares to take on issues of political repression under Obama. When author Sean Pen is promised corporate promotion of his new movie, in exchange for his teaching at an exclusive institute, for a year, he agrees. Sent to this think tank, Sean eventually realizes that for him, as well as for all the other progressives who worked to elect Obama, that he meets there, in the spa, at the bar,
, that he meets there, in the spa, at the bar, escape is not an option. The corporate operation seeks to reprogram these thinkers into puppets of the pro-war Obama government to prevent the rise of future Ralph Nader types.
Sean and the other try to escape, but discover that just by voting for Obama, they have brain washed themselves so deeply into the new fascism, that they cannot escape. This movie presents a glimpse into an internal critique of limitations on freedom of expression and how voting is a form of self brain washing. Shown 10/26, 12noon, Shattuck Cinema, Berkeley.
YES! I like all of these ideas. Repeal Taft-Hartley Act of 1947. The government caved to pressure by corporations and passed this anti-worker, pro-employer act. It allows "right-to-work" laws, like we have here in Texas, which prohibit unions. It also prohibits unions from contributing to political campaigns, but allows companies too.
Yeah, that's of, for, and by the people, right? Don't waste a vote on the 2 corporate parties. Vote Green. Vote Nader. Vote for you

Ron Paul and Ralph Nader are holding a joint press conference this morning, urging voters to reject Obama and McCain for a third party candidate. I hope Paul's strong base, united with other 3rd party choice, will help garner public support for nationally televised, open debates.
If you listen to NPR and you want to help promote the third parties' message, ask NPR to provide more coverage for third party candidates because apparently they think they are providing enough coverage to them. See: npr(dot)org/ombudsman/2008/07/covering_thirdparty_candidates.html
We are in a Depression. This is serious. The main change our economy must make is to shift to a 30 hour work week, for all Federal & state employees. This will create 20 million new jobs for all hi school & college grands. By 2012 a few more people will realize we must have a 30 hour week, at 40 hours pay, to reform our whole economy.

Just think of how many unemployed low-skill workers we'd have if we almost doubled the minimum wage overnight. It's a fact that unemployment for low-skill, min-wage workers increases somewhere around 3-8% or more whenever we raise the min. wage, at least when we raise it too high, above the equilibrium wage. Does Nader really wanna increase unemployment?? Think about this, Nader! It's not as simple as waving a magic wand and everyone gets their lives shaped up w/ increased wages.
these buisines' would get the corporate welfare that McDonalds gets each year so they can advertise in singapor, or some of the 20 million worth of corporate welfare pillsbury gets each year to advertise the "Dough Boy" in third world countries. By giving these companies a bonus for keeping their employees, the unemployment wouldnt be so bad at the time of min wage increase.
Why? In 1984, people were addicted to TV, to keep them from noticing that they were slaves. Being driven like Lemmings into pointless wars, to make the banks richer & richer & richer. Now that is funny. How is Fox funny? Big Brother Obama was sent to entertain you. To make you feel good about his new "good war" in Afghanistan. Why does TV exist? Is it to keep you enslaved to laughter??

Plus, think of what it would do to all the new teenage employees if they found out they'd get $10/hour no matter where they worked. They'd become spoiled little brats who want really high pay for low-skill jobs! "$10/hour?? sweet!" Do you really think a kid on his first job at mcdonald's deserves $10/hour his first day? I don't. A kid living with his parents and going to free public school.

No one should be working at Shop n save or mcdonald's at the age of 30 or 40 trying to make ends meet, esp. with kids or a spouse. It's absurd! The fact that Nader and all the progressives, rather than expanding services to help them get higher-paying jobs, wants to just say "Here's a raise from the federal gov't, but you still have to stay at your dead-end low-skill crappy job", as if he doesn't really care.
Why doesn't Nader invest some of that money to help THESE people, too?
And then what? We just raise the fucking min. wage AGAIN? And AGAIN? It becomes an endless cycle, and before you know it, you've got people working at McDonald's flipping burgers making $20/hour!! Just for flipping burgers, something just about anyone can do! Doesn't Nader understand economics? You don't pay ridiuclously-high wages for low-skill employees that are dispensable. Just b/c some of them are working mothers or parents doesn't mean ALL are. Let these parents go to their employers.
Then don't eat burgers. I don't hear you whining about CEOs being given $100 million a year, no matter how much THAT costs you. So, you've got NOTHING to complain about minimum wage-earners, who do REAL work, making $20 per hour.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I love Nader as a candidate, but some of his positions just gotta go, like this "un-elections" crap or his living wage bullshit. MOST workers in this country, by a wide margin, make WAY more than the minimum wage! Why is he still harping on about this? Instead of enabling people still working at min.-wage dead-end jobs at 30 or 40 years old tryign to raise a family, why doesn't he make college more affordable for them or expand free job training? Raising the wage isn't gonna help.
Or this crap about favoring solar (inefficient) power over nuclear. All b/c he's afraid of "nuclear waste" and "where are we gonna put it?" who cares! Let's worry about that later. The country is fucking huge. I'm sure we'll find somewhere safe to store it. Besides, doesn't France reuse its nuclear waste? Why can't we?
Nader, don't mix up stupid crap with good issue positions. The min. wage at $10/hour is just gonna become meaningless in the next 5 or 10 years when inflation goes up.
You need lots of water to cool the waste and it has to be flowing and COOL which requires more water... We're having water shortages water will continue to become more scarce and not more plentiful. Do you see the problem here?
That is one of the DUMBEST responses I've heard. The country is "huge" you say, right? Then, there is no problem if homeless people occupy unused public, government-owned land, right? And, if any cops try to stop them, then you'd have no problem if I blew away the cops, right? Yeah, right. You're so full of shit. How about we dump the nuclear waste on YOUR property, Whoo69. There's "so much land" - apparently that's not accounted for - that you can always pick up and move elsewhere.
I have just one question: You say you want "UN-sponsored elections" in Iraq. But why? You of all people must know how inept and corrupt the UN has gotten over the years! Why the fuck would we trust THEM to manage the Iraqi democracy? It's silly! We should work with our allies for a real democratic coalition to monitor the elections, not the inept UN. The UN is a weak, frail, dying old woman.

And why waste time trying to raise the minimum wage to something as ridiculous as $10/hour?? Surely Nader knows that only about 2 or 3% of all workers make at least or below the min. wage. If you include all workers making up to $10/hour, I'm pretty sure the number won't be much higher than 10 or 20%, if even that much, not a ridiculously-high ONE-THIRD of all workers in this country, as Nader erroneously claims. Where does he get that stupid statistic?
