To make it fair once I stuffed all my friends in my car and himslef in his car and still pulled about 1 car away from him. i doubt that 335 is stock. he most likely has a few mods. unless that M3 is a convertible. the 335 weigh 300lbs. more than an E46 M3 coupe. also the longer you go for the M3 should be slowing waking on the 335, because it breaths better on the top end.
I dont know about Europian version but I have a E46 M3 standard and I was a little bit faster than a guy with 135 with a little bit mod and his GF on his car.

I think they are very close on a drag race. In fact the stock 335i tested up to 340hp in our local dyno ( and not only the claimed 306 hp). The TQ figures are very high too and that favors the 335i in a roll on. Maybe, just maybe, the e46M3 would gain some ground when both reach speeds closer to their top, because the N54 turbo doesn't have a high rpm rush as the old M3.
But at the race track I think the e46 M3 would easily win over the 135i or the 335i .

Good match-up. I think the M3 has a lot more soul and is likely more fun to drive. But, speed-wise, you can't go wrong with the 335i. It's just so cheap to make them really fast.
End of the day who cares if a tuned jb 3 could beat an M3. All the time if i owned the 335 your always one step behind an M car. M3 looks nice and I'm a 997 Porsche owner now. Id still get another M3 over any 3333356899i turbo what ever.

@milzy83 Actually not the case.. there are plenty of dyno tests of a stock 335i putting down 266 hp at the wheels which translates to 333 hp at the crank... so its dead even... the advantage comes with the 278 lb ft torque at the wheels with the 335i which is better than the E46.... the 335i's hp is underrated by BMW
@phv628 Just bought an e46 m3, ive already beat a 335. we raced all the way to the end of 5th gear and i pulled about 3 cars. This guy in the video whos driving the m3 is a terrible driver. You can here him granny shifting. My m3 is stock, but all and all i cant hate on a 335i they are very nice cars and get better fuel economy than my m3.
@integraballa97 I have a 2009 335i xdrive and the power delivery is different. I test drove a 2006 E46 M3 and it was a very well balanced car. The suspension was quite a bit stiffer and I loved the sound of the exhaust. I can't hate on either car because I love them both equally. I found the acceleration to be quite similar with the 335i accelerating with a strong punch once the turbos are at full boost whereas the M3 had instantaneous throttle response.
335i automatic is an everyday car, in the traffic is confy and in the track is very fast. The M3 is hard and unconfortable in the traffic. That may be a good reason to choose the 335
The n54 (335i's engine) is so underrated. Independent testing revealed that the 335i was making closer to 320hp stock and 310lbs torque than 306/300. Plus with $379 for a Juice Box 3 (or $579 for the easier to install Plug n play) you can make a min of 80whp/92hp to 180whp/207 additional hp... by cranking up the PSI of the turbos.
The N54 was International engine of the Year 2 times (07'/08')!
Something about Direct Injection, Twin turbo inline 6's known for their smooth revving power.
Drivers race! Now let it go. On average 335 is a 13.6 1/4 mile car most of the time. E46 m3 is 13.4 1/4 all day! People have pulled quicker times in both cars. Stock for stock pretty much the same, with all things being equal driver, track, road conditions, temperature, and elevation slight advantage to M3 Stock.
Don't know where you're getting your information from, but it's well documented that a stock 335i will run the quarter mile in 13.4 as you claim the M3 will. The 135i will on average be 0.1-0.15 quicker on every test of accelleration vs the 335i and e46 M3.
top gear power lap times show that the e46 has the same time as a 535d, so a 135i and a 335i would definately be faster.
just the nature of how technology goes. the GT-R is faster than ferraris around the track. In the end of the day, it's just what car you rather be seen in.

um...no. The S54 inst behind the 335is engine in terms of technology. The 335i has a turbo, thats why it will win. The car is slower around the track than an E46M3, stock. H guys , here in France the M3 E46 is 343 HP . And a few days ago i have beaten a 335i stock which is 306Hp . Hehehe, heres some usefull information; where are these cars running, at the reef or high altitude?? it makes a helluva difference when it comes to a aspirated motor as apposed to a forc induced one...one more thing; see who's infront when these two are drag from standstill; and yes; e46 m3's do 12.6 quatermile, with a chip and exhaust and will easily outrun the sluggish 400sumthin v8 m3; and if you dont believe me...i'll be too happy to prove it

The reason the 335i is slightly faster even though it has less power is because the figure quoted is peak power. The M3 has a very peaky power curve, whereas the 335i's is more flat meaning it has a higher average power output across the rev range. This is of course due to forced induction.
e46 may have more HP about 333, while the 335i only has 300 however with a Vishnu ECU tune the 335i gets on avg of 50-60ish HP extra and can reach 60 in about 4.6-4.7 so it really does come down to the driver

Can the car have heated seats without having the "cold weather package" which includes heated seats, headlight washers and ski bag.
I am about to get an M3 e46 and it has heated seats but no headlight washers. I want to make sure the front of the car wasn't damaged and replaced while forgetting the washers.
All M3 E46's have xenon headlights, therefore as requested for an MOT they have to have a wash system fitted. I have necer seen an M3 E46 without wash headlights.
1st let me tell you i have both cars, the m3 is smg and the 335 stickshift.. the 335 is fast but the m3 will eat it. from 0 to 155 there is no way the 335 comes close.

yes e36 is really light compared to a 335i. You also have to remember 335i is dct which is super slick shifting is sport mode!!!
i'm not surprised with the result in the clip. 0-60 m3 would win but from 20/30 with a twin turbo and more torque its even or favouring the 335i.

My 135i done 257.5whp and 311hp at the flyweel last summer (hot day)
It was on a dyno dynamics (heart breaker dyno)

@phv628 Just bought an e46 m3, ive already beat a 335. we raced all the way to the end of 5th gear and i pulled about 3 cars. This guy in the video whos driving the m3 is a terrible driver. You can here him granny shifting. My m3 is stock, but all and all i cant hate on a 335i they are very nice cars and get better fuel economy than my m3.

@integraballa97 I have a 2009 335i xdrive and the power delivery is different. I test drove a 2006 E46 M3 and it was a very well balanced car. The suspension was quite a bit stiffer and I loved the sound of the exhaust. I can't hate on either car because I love them both equally. I found the acceleration to be quite similar with the 335i accelerating with a strong punch once the turbos are at full boost whereas the M3 had instantaneous throttle response.

The n54 (335i's engine) is so underrated. Independent testing revealed that the 335i was making closer to 320hp stock and 310lbs torque than 306/300. Plus with $379 for a Juice Box 3 (or $579 for the easier to install Plug n play) you can make a min of 80whp/92hp to 180whp/207 additional hp... by cranking up the PSI of the turbos.
The N54 was International engine of the Year 2 times (07'/08')!
Something about Direct Injection, Twin turbo inline 6's known for their smooth revving power.

Drivers race! Now let it go. On average 335 is a 13.6 1/4 mile car most of the time. E46 m3 is 13.4 1/4 all day! People have pulled quicker times in both cars. Stock for stock pretty much the same, with all things being equal driver, track, road conditions, temperature, and elevation slight advantage to M3 Stock.

Don't know where you're getting your information from, but it's well documented that a stock 335i will run the quarter mile in 13.4 as you claim the M3 will. The 135i will on average be 0.1-0.15 quicker on every test of accelleration vs the 335i and e46 M3.

actually, Edmunds did a review on the 135, 335 and the E46, the 135, 335 had quicker salom and 0-100 times, but E46 still had a quicker track time.

top gear power lap times show that the e46 has the same time as a 535d, so a 135i and a 335i would definately be faster.
just the nature of how technology goes. the GT-R is faster than ferraris around the track. In the end of the day, it's just what car you rather be seen in.
As fast as the Hyundai genesis gets, that car is still going to be a piece.
i'll stick to my e92. ^__^

Even if the 335i is faster, we probably all agree that we would rather be seen driving an m3 right :-). I would even rather have an e36 M3 instead of that average looking 3-series :-). It's just that all these modern BMW's look so damn average.

So true. I think the 335i is ugly and has no appeal. Anything that carries the M badge has respect from everyone on the road even ferraris. They have class, style, speed, and a subtle aggressive look. It will be timeless. I also think the e46 looks better than the e92

@krapfeaster exactly. I think you aren't buying a BMW unless it has an M badge. I think Audi's are better appointed then their non-M counterparts. The E46 in my eyes will is timeless. The engineering and performance of the car along with its clever design/subtle aesthetics are just so proper. I don't think they will ever achieve such a beautiful car again.

the reason why the 335i won is because the engine technology is improved in comparison to the old m3 engine.
for example. I raced my friend´s mini cooper GP (built 2005 with 218 hp, and 1050 kg) with a mini cooper s (built 2009, 175 hp and 1300 kg) and it was !!!! DRAW !!!!
so there´s no "some maybe have 360hp stock" shit, but the engines get better and better through new technologies...

um...no. The S54 inst behind the 335is engine in terms of technology. The 335i has a turbo, thats why it will win. Blow the S54, it has better internals, its a superior platform, period. 335 is a nice car, but its a turboed grocery getter. Lets keep some perspective. The now 9 year old E46M3 still beats the 335i and the 135i around the track.

um... firstly when one refers to a car being turboed or having a turbo, it refers to the car having a turbocharger which varies with application. I am well aware the 335i is a twin turbo. The car is slower around the track than an E46M3, stock. You can argue the 335i can be modded easier, true, you can argue the rear end is better, (though I doubt you know the delta), The FI engine is torquey but if its just beating out a 3.2L with its FI3.0L, thats just pathetic. Sry to break the news

H guys , here in France the M3 E46 is 343 HP . And a few days ago i have beaten a 335i stock which is 306Hp . The difference between both cars was really not big but enough to say that my "old" M3 is a littl bite beeterin straight line acceleration....and for your information my M3 is also completely stock ;-)

Hehehe, heres some usefull information; where are these cars running, at the reef or high altitude?? it makes a helluva difference when it comes to a aspirated motor as apposed to a forc induced one...one more thing; see who's infront when these two are drag from standstill; and yes; e46 m3's do 12.6 quatermile, with a chip and exhaust and will easily outrun the sluggish 400sumthin v8 m3; and if you dont believe me...i'll be too happy to prove it

The reason the 335i is slightly faster even though it has less power is because the figure quoted is peak power. The M3 has a very peaky power curve, whereas the 335i's is more flat meaning it has a higher average power output across the rev range. This is of course due to forced induction.

e46 may have more HP about 333, while the 335i only has 300 however with a Vishnu ECU tune the 335i gets on avg of 50-60ish HP extra and can reach 60 in about 4.6-4.7 so it really does come down to the driver

bmw made the 335i as fast as the old m3 in a striaght line becuase thats were most people drive them . they made it that way so people with the older m3 would buy the new e90 but if you take the e46 m3 and the 335i on the track thats where the M3 takes off

Question to ALL BMW M3 E46 fans:
Can the car have heated seats without having the "cold weather package" which includes heated seats, headlight washers and ski bag.
I am about to get an M3 e46 and it has heated seats but no headlight washers. I want to make sure the front of the car wasn't damaged and replaced while forgetting the washers.

All M3 E46's have xenon headlights, therefore as requested for an MOT they have to have a wash system fitted. I have necer seen an M3 E46 without wash headlights.

1st let me tell you i have both cars, the m3 is smg and the 335 stickshift.. the 335 is fast but the m3 will eat it. from 0 to 155 there is no way the 335 comes close.
oh im putting a chip on the 335, well see what happens then, they say it goes almoust the same. this 335 pobably has a chip
