  • little feminist :D

  • @klcech LOL! That's funny.

  • Now and then a female canary will sing, but it's nowhere the quality or the length of the tunes the males have. Her song is very pretty...

  • that is really good video and sound quality! what equipment are you using?

  • @CaiqueLover I think at the time I was using a Canon Powershot S3IS camera ;)

I now have a Canon Powershot SX30IS. Got it around Christmas

  • You canary hen is so cute! I got a gloster hen and she also sings like that a couple times per day, makes me happy. :)

  • thats pretty but my bird died

  • que bonita y canta felicidades

  • @abcnino Gracias! :)

  • So pretty. Like a big candy floss when they puff up like that.

  • my canary started singing once he heard this! He wouldn't shut up, but he never shuts up.

  • She is gorgeous..!

  • awww what a beautiful little girl!!! Bless her baby birds!

  • @lillysunnie Thank you.

  • @ActressXO no not an he-she.

  • your bird its a male canary!

  • @TheSaltWaterMaster Did you not read the title? Males do not lay eggs.

She was alone in the cage at one point and she laid eggs....it makes her a female.:)

  • awww 8D breath taking

  • @moses900 Thank you! :)

  • that is such a pretty song. I had a female Spice finch and female Strawberry finch that sung too and the book says they don't sing. I love it!

  • @ekarp3 I also have a female strawberry and she sings...not exactely like the male but it's very pleasent to hear. ;)

  • dont be fooled sometimes they mimic what males sing

  • @mrpigeonloverableabl I'm not fooled she doesn't sings like males do but those songs do come out of her and are very nice to the ears.

  • I also I have a canary that sings imitating a male that I have

  • @uriiflash What is nice about those female that sings is that they don't sing with the strong notes like males do so it's better.

  • I have some females that sing as well kinda cool

  • very nice end video vey beautiful bat not malinois....singer american?

  • @luckyfdv yes american.

  • i want to get a male an female canary, but i was told not to.. but in everyones honest opinion let me know if i should or not... i heard that male an females make more music an sounds beatufiul...

  • @babigrl2913 I have males and females and the males will still sing. In my aviary at least that is the case.

  • Females don't sing so well as male does but still awesome. My female can sing to :D

  • @Sweetstyleh you should try to get a video of her. I would love to hear her. :)

  • I had one before like this one

  • @Cannibal0Prodigy Glad she did! :)

  • @Cannibal0Prodigy same :D x

  • that's odd I thought only males sang

  • @gerbilmaster21

Some females do sing. Actualy her daughter started to sing and she sounds even more like a male. :)

  • @gerbilmaster21 some females sing too ... i breed canaries and i see it happen sometimes :)

  • @gerbilmaster21 Nope some females will also but it never equals the male song.

  • @Blackdesertwind Thats not true, I had a female (eggs) and she sang way better than any male canary I have ever had

  • Your video has inspired me to find some beautiful singers, I love how they communicate and I meditate every morning listening to the birds close by, I live near a park so the sounds are estoric. At night during the summer I feel so connected with the birds, that I become part of the conversation lol, not literally but if you focus hard enough it becomes apparent which bird is communicating with the other.

It truly is one of Gods beautiful wonders of the world.

  • couldn't agree more!

  • I was watching a documentary a while back, and this gentleman recorded the sounds of birds singing and converted them to some pc software.

He found that the singing of birds is just as complex as the works of mozart, its just some sounds and vibrations they sing are not percieved by the human ear. I think this is amazing!!! Ima have a look for the video and let you guys know, fingers crossed!

    Thanks for uploading.

  • That is very interesting. Wish I could have seen it too. I love documentaries. Only time I watch TV is for documentaries, so informative.

  • @Blackdesertwind Ok I am pretty sure this was the guy but am still in doubt, Why Birds Sing film premiere on youtube. Its a very short clip however but I will try my best to find it, you will love this documentary.

As for TV I got rid of mine 3 years ago and it has changed my life ever since, really! I now know why they call them Programmes "cough cough" I mean programming.

  • You did a smart move there by getting rid of it. Now if I could do the same with the computer it would be better but it's my only way of communicating with others around the worl. LOL

But nature, be it birds, wildlife or just nature (mountains) in general call to me all the time. ;D

  • How do you know it's a female canary?

  • because she laid eggs.

  • I had a female canary that sang also. She was such a great bird...had many beautiful clutches...AND SANG. :)

  • You must miss her!

  • Her beauty lives on long beyond her, she is so special and magical. Thanks for sharing her song. She cheered up my little one xoxo

  • So true! Thank you for your kind words. :)

  • My condolences.

    She sang beautifully.

  • Thank you

  • Damn i feel as sad as you are because my little canary died monday. she was very cute she loved me as i did her. when she got sick i took care of her and gave to eat and when she passed away i felt the only pain inside me because i use to play with her and tickle her but now shes gone and i'll never see her again :.(

  • I'm sorry for your loss. :(

It's very different when they are so special to us and then they are gone.

  • I used your video to make my canaries sing for me :) Even though your canary is gone, she is still making others sing

  • Thank you your so sweet!

I'm glad I videotape her so I can still listen to her....makes me cry when I do.

I don't think I'll ever be lucky to have one as unique as she was to me.

  • I'm sorry your bird died. That is a cute clip.

We have a female too that sings to rival the males, especially when she has a nice view and fresh air. The guy that gave her to us was very surprised. He is an expert (biologist) and raises canaries as a hobby (there are 50 in his house!) He said she was a dominant female, which might have something to do with her singing. Also, she sings when I play Frank Sinatra on the stereo, isn't that funny?

  • Thanks.

I know what you mean. Everytime I hear someone say that females don't sing I tell them some do and they call me crazy that they don't period! I know for a fact that she was female since she laid eggs and was the only one in the cage so I can't mistake that!

  • She had babies twice only in her lifetime. I still have two of them and I'm not sure I want to sell them anymore. The male is just like her but the female looks more like her other mate. She was so easy to mate that she had two mates. She got along with everyone, from my mozambiques to my strawberry finches.

    Miss her terribly. :(

  • I'm sad to announce that my little Angel passed away on Jan 14th following the discovery of a tumour. On my way to work I took her cage down to get her to the vet and noticed that she was already gone.

I'll miss her quiet melodious singing.

  • i don't belive it

  • Well you better because it is

  • Beautiful, my female canary started singing last month, not as loud as her male partner, but its a treat as you said. I love my birds.

  • I don't blame you for loving them, they are so sweet to the soul

  • wow that is amazing a female canary singing. no offense, but after your canary lays eggs it won't live as long as the male. but it doesn't matter because you can love them!! i have a male canary

  • I did have her for many years

  • but today I found out she has a tumour

  • Oh my, poor bird :( I'm very sorry for you

  • @Blackdesertwind aw im sorry to hear that :( she is magical. I player her song to my canary and she chirped back a little :)

  • sweet :)

  • Thanks

  • 'tis amazing .

you have a ver cute canary there .

  • Thanks

  • I think she needs a male...That s the reason to singing

  • She already have two with her. LOL

  • I'm looking for sounds to play for my bird..Can anyone help..tANX in advance ( Nice bird)

  • I have a cd with canary songs to it....if you want I can send it to you for a fee.

  • what a cutie :D

  • Thanks :)

  • no female, jjajaajajajaja

  • Sorry she is female since she had babies

  • My 3 month old red mosaic is going crazy listening to this female! He'll certainly be ready come January to do the "dirty"!

  • LOL!

  • No, females don't actually sing. She's just talking :]

  • Well it's music to my ears

  • lol i put this video on for my male canaries and they went craaaaaazy

hahaha they jumping around everywhere haha

  • Glad they like her

  • it was incredible for me to (when i learn about this) but thats normal....

  • uh uh uh mines the same lil unick!!!! he hehehehe she sings more than the male we have

  • LOL!

  • she wants to be let out man. lol

  • nice !

  • Thank you

  • she doesn't do it often but when she does it's a treat for me since it's not as loud as the males. LOL

  • its a male if it sings m8 n i fink its a male

    females just cheap

  • Excuse me? What do you mean by female cheap? It's a female since she had babies and she certainly wasn't cheap!

  • shes so sweet!!!

  • Thank you! ;D

  • a female canary singing??? lucky u man coz i have a male canary and he just never sing lol

  • female never singing

  • My female canary is singing too sometimes :)

  • Hey i have a new canary and never had one before and he seems pretty quiet, had him for like 3 weeks now, anyone know if thats normal?

also, are they better off in pairs?

    p.s, v. cute birdy

  • Might be female that don't sing. Does it seem to like the environement? Losts of light, quiet, music, good diet, no pets that disturbs it?

Review where you have the cage set up.

    Good luck keep me posted.

  • mine use to sing too before she died :[

  • So sorry to hear that. :( Hope it will not stop you from getting another.

  • If I introduce a hen to my male, I read somewhere that they will fight, is this true in most cases?

  • They might but in most cases it will stop after a while....how are they now?

  • Thanks for posting this, my male canary sings beautifully and we put a female in with him 2 days ago and "she" has been singing and chirpling away, I was worried it was a male but obviously not as she sounds just like yours (looks like her too).

The male has stopped singing so much since I put her in so I guess she is a female and he is either frightened of her or fancies her !

  • So how is your couple doing?

    :D

  • lsn i got this female canary as a gift...i heard females dont sing is it ttrue

  • From my experience and hearing from others not all female canary won't sing...so until it lais eggs or if you can actualy sex them from their genitalias you won't know for sure.

    Good luck!

  • my canary never sings :S :S ....what should i do?!! plz reply

  • Do you have alot of licgh for him? Is it male?...some females don't sing. I was lucky to have two that did.

Give him or her a good diet and greens. Light is important, you can get light fixtures at the pet store for him and make sure you have some music for him...if he likes his evironement he will sing....unless he is a she that doesn't sing.

    Good luck!

  • LOL...yes, they are pretty loud at times. Although, having a canary singing in my house would only encourage the other birds and then we'd really have quite the chorus going!

I probably did see some of your other ones...I've looked at so many today, and I haven't kept track of who are whos! I'll take a closer look at yours...thanks!

  • Thanks...

I really had no idea that canaries could sing like that when we got her, so I guess we didn't know what we were missing! I have a male cockatiel that loves to sing and my white-bellied caique is a she and SHE doesn't sing at all...just squawks!

  • I can't handle those types of birds...too noisy!

I prefer a quiet melody. Did you check the other videos of different birds I have that sing?

  • My Female Canary Sings and she's SO Pretty when she's sings =)

  • Your canary is precious! We just lost our female canary this morning and these videos are making me feel better. She would sort of sing mostly in response to birds outside chirping. Just a few sig-songy notes. I didn't realize how much more song there is in a canary until I watched some of these male canaries singing. We'll miss her something TERRIBLE, nonetheless.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

Maybe you can get another one when you are ready....

If it's for song that you like birds, have you ever concidered a greensinger or a strawberry finch?

    Their song is lovely!

  • Do you know of any breeders in NJ? Can they be housed in a huge flight cage with a male canary? do the females sing as well?

  • No sorry but I don't know any breeders from that area. You sould try the Yahoo groups for canaries... you might find one. Just go to Yahoo groups and type canary finch and see.

    Good luck! :D

  • i like birds

    i feed them outside

i don't have one in hear

    because my landlord

    won't allow it

  • my canary is different from others it follows me like if it was a dog when u call he/shes name it comes to u it mostly only follows me idk if its a boy or girl it used to sing until i trained it but i hope it will sing pretty soon and u canary's voice is so cute

  • My little hen sings too, its really cute she also tries to imitate her mate's song to.

  • My canary responds to this video so much more than male videos! She is a female that sings as well. I'd rather like females than males because its so much softer and cute!

  • Nice bird! she sings wel.

i just bought one today at petsmart and i'm not sure if it's a female or a male, as it seemed like all the three canaries they had at the time were young, with one's bottom barely had any feathers. however, i will wait for a few more days to see what it's going to turn out to be.

  • I've had so many canary hens that sing. Isn't it crazy? My canaries (all males) are really singing back to this clip!

  • That's really sweet. Our last canary was a hen canary female and was able to sing somewhat -- more than a few squeaks compared to the average female. She would mainly do it in reply when we spoke to her, starting with a couple of squeaks and then extending them till it almost sounded like a sing-song conversation. We had her for 3 years and she only began "singing" in the last. But she died a few days ago unfortunately. ) :

  • I'm so sorry to hear that your canary died. It's always difficult when you miss the sounds they make. Will you get more?

  • no it a mail it is

  • I'm sorry but a male doesn't lay eggs and have babies and her mate was paired with another female before and they had babies so I do know the sex of my birds.

  • my male canary loves to hear her sing. He reacts by singing beautifully, to her i guess...

  • LOL I can just picture it.

"Oh she is singing my tune!"

I would love to see pictures or video of your canary. :)
