@Isaelduron1 Not true. I agree Syd set the first steps for the band in terms of Psych/Space Rock which later evolved into Progressive Rock and started the bands best moments. But Dave Gilmour's and Water's compositions saved Pink Floyd and made them famous as shit. Without Syd's departure the band would be pretty rare and unknown nowadays.

Syd was the driving force behind early PF. IMO they were interesting in an experimental view then, and the early work is only considered great because of what the later band achieved.

Truthfully, if they hadn't moved beyond Syd, then none of you would probably have even heard of them.

Their best work ( again IMO )was done between the departure of Syd and the departure of Roger Waters.

@blenderhedd to be honest there isn't too much arguing, anyone that says that the band's first album with syd was better then dark side, wish you were here, or the wall isn't being honest with themselves, I'm not saying that pink floyd's early stuff is bad, I'm just saying that it was the band experimenting and finding their sound, which was a necessary process

I hate how people think of the rest of the band as "Traitors" as Dan5482 put it. But he doesn't believe(and so does million of Syd fans) that Syd was really going insane. Back then, the Band did as much as they could by allowing Syd to be composing music but not performing live

Yet even at that, Syd proved incompetence. You should read a book of Pink Floyd history before you guys spout stupid shit. Syd was perfect example of how the music industry ate people up. He couldn't take it.

Read the biographies on Syd. Gilmour and Waters tried to get Syd to see a psychiatrist several times but he refuse to go through the door. I've had friends who have cracked up, they can't see they need help a can get paranoid their friends are trying to get them 'locked up'. Floyd didn't just coldly dump Barrett, he became comatose on stage and couldn't perform. The only other thing they could have done was give up playing altogether and wait for Syd to recover, which he never did.

"sans Syd" has the word 'sans' ...the french for 'without'. I think he meant Gilmour looked a bit out of place at that early time.
