This is a choreographed and rehearsed 'fight' called an embu. Shorinji Kempo sparing (randori) would never use such a wide variety of techniques. Both students know how to avoid the techniques and would provide few opportunities to use them. For this reason embu is the preferred form of demonstration for this martial art. .

  • are these pairs of kata? or are these free spar of some sort?

  • xidooo

  • Well, well, well... Wing tsun... The problem is that SK has WT technics incorported in it as well.. WT is for CLOSE fighting, SK was designed\ developed to KEEP AWAY an attacker, it´s self-defense purely. The interpretations of an attack\offense distance is VERY different in both styles... Poor comparision... Regarding close kicking, yes, SK has defenses and counter-attacks against it. In essence, WT HAS TO fight NEAR and SK, away form the opponent. Which do you prefer?

  • @Arapaima1 keep in mind that wing chun isnt the only concept that uses internal damage with puching and grabs kicks and so forth

  • I Think Wing Tsun would have some problem against a shorinji kempo. But i also think that Shorinji Kempo would have problems, when they try 2 kick a wing tsun guy could easy break the shorinji kempo guys defence, and make him out of balance. You may get hit several times but is the guy that stand up and stil fights that is a true warrior.

    Wing Tsun 4-ever!!

  • 女の人の法衣はちょっと似合わないねー

  • I would expect any good Wing Tsun student with 4-6 months of training to go through these guys without any major difficulties.

  • I disagree. SJ may not look very spectacular but the techniques are designed for maximum effectiveness. Wing Tsun may be efficient against many styles, but styles that move forward, like kyokushin Karate and Shorinji Kempo can twhart the striking distance of a Wing Tshun Kung Fu fighter.

  • Actually only the first two student grades are concerned with what we call "closing the gap" everything we train after that is entirely short distance. We mainly use punches against the opponents head and we pursue if he retreats.

Now i ofcourse respect Karate as i respect all martial arts/sports but when it comes to effectiveness:

Why do they not kick with the leg closest to the opponent ? it would be faster!

Why dont they punch at the opponnents head ?

And i see no counter kicking ?:)

  • Check out this video. It has more techniques like the ones you describe.

    shorinjikenpo enbu 少林寺拳法 組演武 #51全日本選手

An Enbu is a fighting Kata, so they vary greatly since there are hundreds of moves in SJ.

  • We do sometimes kick with the leg nearest the opponent, we don't favour one over the other, you do get more power kicking with your rear leg and it would depend on where you weight is distriubuted which leg you kick with. Yes we do do head punches, and yes we do have counter kicking, you can't judge all of Shorinji Kempo on one video, there is no way one video could display all the techniques, it would go on for ages.

  • Any good student from Shorinji Kempo with 1-2 weeks of trainning never says things like you just said. We're not concerned with going through anyone. Our only concern is to grow in mind and body.

  • Well that is all fine, but that was not what i was discussing :)

  • i dont think so i think if a wing tsun and shorinji kempo practitioner of the same level fought kempo would win, just because its not as restrictive as wing chun and you can generate more power through kempo stances and moves

  • i liked when they did the yori nuki so clean i loved the kumi embu guys. nice hope to maybe see your branch at the next taikai? Westminister branch member here

  • Realy suck?I see you respect people very much.I wish you big health and happiness!Be happy and a long life.

  • Une bien belle démo traditionnelle!!
