Good evening, I am in the process of applying to Goucher College in Baltimore for a MAHP. You made many great points and I wanted to let you know. Please keep in contact - Sincerely, Robert William Anderson
@Subherbscomedy thanks a bunch, robert! best of luck with the application process. that program sounds really interesting and the professors sound great. i bet they have great insight and many experiences to share :) -kristen
Agreed! I love historic buildings and their architectural details. I see a lot of old buildings in my area, abandoned and would love to find out their history. Great points about how saving historic buildings can help the economy!
The historic preservation tax credit of 1981 was the single most successful inner-city revenue generator. For every dollar invested in preservation, 4 are returned.
I'm planning to study at a graduate school majoring in Historic Preservatio in the US or the UK. quite not sure yet. since my country(Korea) dosen't have appropriate graduate school for historic preservation, I have to study abroad.
I'm just curious, but did you major in historic preservation? it seems like you know a lot about it.
and how is it bad in America for saving historic buildings?
that's fantastic! i wish you the best of luck! i'm studying public history, which includes historic preservation.
if you really are interested in historic preservation i'd study in the UK. they have a stronger preservation movement; however, the two countries approach preservation differently. the US preservation movement usually focuses on everyday structures (not necesarrily famous or elaborate sites...more vernacular), whereas the UK focuses on major historic sites, mansions, etc.
hmm.. I'm thinking about sustainable developement that includes preserving historic buildings. (maybe the US)
and I also interest in perserving world heritage sites. (maybe the UK)
hey, um.. could you give me general information of historic preservation in the US? since it is pretty minor field, it is very hard to find information needed. I want to know what is it like being a preservator in your country. stuffs like... job opportunity or general salary.. :)
and yeah, when they took down the wand that used to go around the Epcot center, I was kinda annoyed...and yet happy again because it looked like it used to in my childhood...I kid I kid
i did see your video! it's so sad to see what happened...if only people knew that once you lost those buildings that history would be gone forever (sigh).
tallahassee does have a historic society, as does my hometown of maitland (yay). it's actually pretty legit. they've been working to revitalize tallahassee's main street and it's been pretty effective.
