Since 1988 The first Full time course at Highbury College for Students with Learning Difficulties, Learning Disabilities and Autism was Independent Living and Work Skills that will help students was things that don't Understand when their Younger from 0 Mouths till 2 or 3 Years old till their diagnosed with autism.
I have bad news for you. The DSM-IV will be GONE in 2013. The DSM V will replace it. Asperger Syndrome will NOT be in the DSM-V, which I think is WRONG. what do you think will happen to all of thousands of children that have a real diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome. Do you think the "new" DSM -V will make professionals say "Well, that is just a made up thing, we can't help you? It is not in our book anymore, sorry". Why would those rich white men make a desicion to excude AS from the DSM-V?
Do you have videos about all of the different types of Autisic Spectrum Disorders- not JUST the classic Autism or Asperger Syndrome? I know there other ASD's, but all I see is Autism and AS when I do research. Do you know anything about the other forms of ASDs? Have you worked with adults with AS?
I like this infovideo! But i don't like that there just talking "HIM" all video.
I have 2 girls and the old girl have got diagnosed with ASD and the youngest is going throw testing to see if she also have ASD. Soo therefore i think that you should include "HIM or HER"
With criteria being more inclusive and broadly based, says the video. That's why we find investigative news reports now saying there is an epidemic of misdiagnosing and overdiagnosing children, teens and even adults with autism. This is a serious, growing problem. The definition of autism has been compromised. Yes, there is a spectrum. Temple Grandin is unique HF autistic. My son (on you tube under my account) is severely autistic and punches himself. Sandbar3000 he's an adult, fyi
@sandbar3000: I understand your frustrations, but I work with three Autistic Teens who are Autistic. They did not have the early intervention that is available to kids today. It is very hard to help those who have been basically walking to the beat of their own drum for years. It is very important to know the signs, so children can be helped!
@killvenge, I'm happy that you work with teens that are autisic. I'm not sure what that has to do with me talking about adults with Autism and Asperger Syndrome. Adults still need help and people still only focus on kids - regarless if early intervention helps or not. The children of the 2000s will be much better off as adults than those in their 30s now.
@killvenge NOT every child with autism, even with the BEST and most intensive helps and interventions will respond. There are some cases, that despite everything, the child still engages in self abuse, or rituals, obsessions. Can this decrease with therapy? Yes, but consider fact early interventions can't always negate severe signs and symptoms. You have to find other ways, like sensory activities / protective gear, and ultimately accept who person is.
@kgaccount, I don't know. I watched this video 5 months ago and you want to me remmeber every detail of this video? What is wrong with you kgaccount? Next time, look at my comments and see how OLD THEY ARE. What does it matter anyone if this boy is an actor or not?
@sandbar3000 Why so defensive sandbar? I'm just asking if the boy is an ACTOR, as that would seen LUDICROUS to show "autism" by having a NON AUTISTIC child posing as one. It's a bit odd. Just saying, because it DOES matter to those of us with real authentic autistic children. ACTORS posing as autistics is just absurd.
@kgaccount, yes I understand that it does matter to those that really have autism if this is an actor or not. But your questions will not be answered by me - since I'm not the one that tapped the video. Perhaps you can go to the person that uploaded it? Again, I watched this video some 6 months or more ago - and I'm not going to go back and watch it again to see if this person is an "Actor".
@sandbar3000 That's what I've been thinking this whole time. They simply act like children with autism are worse off than adults with autism, which is, flatly, a stupid thing to do.
