I'm not sure they were actually going for the room. At least not the last one. He better be careful. Some of the other rapids aren't as forgiving of that level of sloppiness. especially that 3rd roll where it took a while to come back up.
You're correct, these are my friends and they weren't really going for the Room, just getting worked hard in that direction. My on-screen comments were just a gag. Also, I was shooting with a Pentax W20 into the sun and couldn't see squat on the LCD.
I should add that the last boater was making his first run ever at Pillow Rock. I think his rolls were pretty impressive under the circumstances. There's a great still photo of him pushing off the corner of Pillow Rock with one hand, paddle ready in his other hand, poised and staring down into the Toilet Bowl for the first time...
Oh I agree, it's hard to roll in these rapids. That's why I hand paddle. Much easier to roll. But he shouldn't feel bad. I've been that sloppy in there too.
Nice language baiter boy. I mean that when going for the Room of Doom it is nice to show control. It is not an easy move as the kayaker found out. Many "rodeo boaters go in expecting to roll, splat, cartwheel, etc.. They do not usually roll before they get to the Room. He does stay in the boat. A nice fun video. No insults were intended.
It's all about the Pillow> at least to me.

Three rolls one rapid. Those boys aren't even rodeo kayakers. Great moves if you can stay up. But they are a bit "trashy".
