not necessarily, the cheap stuff is crap, my mom bought the best for me(as I was adopted so no breast milk). Personally you should stop feeding them on the breast at 2 and just give them pumped breast milk until 4 or 5. Although by the age of two most things have been developed(the body is complex and I can't go into details but by 2, alot of important things are already developed.)

I haven't seen any modern doctors who believe in self weaning after age two. It is terrible on your breast, breast pumping is just as good, and not every woman wants to be a stay at home mom forever. Breast feeding at 17 years old is disgusting and wrong. Children need to be taught you are in control not them. This is why we have horrible little brats for children. Its your body your decision not your child's.

@JonathanDerbidge You are allowed to add solid foods in around 6 months, but breastmilk (or formula) should be the basis of a babies diet until at least a year. The world health organization recommends breastfeeding until 2 year or beyond. 7 months is too young to stop breastfeeding.......

Nursing itself is bonding & fullfills closeness children need.

Then to breastfeed along with "complementary foods" for two years and BEYOND. There are lots of ppl who feel extended breastfeeding causes social issues, but it is usually the opposite. BF babies have had there needs met and grow up to be healthy independent kids. :-D
Few days ago I was in a bus, and there was a women with a small baby. The baby started to cry and the women breastfed her! That was the most beautiful thing I saw in a long time! I think that the women have to be able to breastfeed their children anywhere and in any time they want and need! And yes, I am a women.
@67bandit67 It is not sick to give your baby/toddler what MANY health officials says is the most beneficial and healthy food possible. In other cultures it is normal to bf until 4 or 5. Even in the U.S. many women bf until 2 or 3. Its just not spoken about hence why people are surprised to see videos such as these. That, however doe NOT make it wrong or make a loving, attentive mother who is trying to do what SHE feels is best for her child, a "sick individual".

I know a woman who breastfed her three children (two girls, one boy) for what so many people seem to consider to be a very long time (four or five years). Human milk is for humans, cow milk is for cows. Formula was developed for corporate greed. Breastfed children have proved to be healthier, and my friends' kids certainly turned out well. And no one has any complaints about the warn, convenient, and attractive containers Mom's milk comes in! I still try to breastfeed as often as possible.

I love love love this video! We had planned on nursing our first son beyond two years, but at 16 months we got pregnant with our second. It was very hard on Ollie. He wasn't ready for it and took it very hard. Plus he had never had formula or cows milk so trying to get him to switch was horrible. I felt so bad for him.

I breastfeed my daughter till right before her 2nd birthday I only stoped because she didnt want it anymore, I was soooo sad:( but then I had another baby so Im breastfeeding again:) Nothing can beat that one on one time with your baby.

@566sexyangel Just a guess but she may also practice elimination communication (meaning the child uses a potty from VERY early on, and momma watches for cues or he may have been potty learning. When mine was first learning the potty - being bare bottomed was far easier for him to remember to go to the potty & made for less accidents. He is 3 1/2 now & has it down pat but still will go pantless if he can get away with it. :P

They recommend we nurse our babies for a MAXIMUM of 2 years. 6 months isn't enough for your child, sorry! Women think their job of nursing their babies is over at 6 months when it really just began. 6 months is the easy way out...What do you plan to do after that 6 months is over??!! Switch to formula? (The World Health Organization actually is teh two year recommendation - AAP recommends to 1 yr & then beyond)

Also - be careful not to alienate others. I agree formula is far from perfect & we need better regulations & better options for those who can't or choose not to breastfeed or choose not to stop, but ANY breastmilk is good. We don't ever want a momma to FF from day one since she feels she may be unable to go a year so why bother. I planned to BF until work (6 wks) - I made it to three & 1/2yrs. SUPPORT any attempts!

I breastfed both my children until they decided to be done with it. My son was 13 months and my daughter was 14 months when they called it quits on their own. I was sad to close that chapter. It's a wonderful, beautiful time in a mother's life to be able to nourish her baby in this perfect way.

@candlephone1 breast feeding is mostly looked down upon where we live if the child is over 1 or 2 but think of this, in under developed countries mothers feed their child that way until they are at least 4-5 years old. I was told by a nutritionist that it is healthy to breast feed until the age of 3, it's your discretion. There's a difference in being perverse with your child and feeding your child.

Your argument makes it seem like as soon as a child can feed themselves they need to stop drinking milk (whether from the bottle or the breast), which makes no sense. My son is almost two and only drinks milk and water. Should I cut milk out of his intake all together? No, because he needs it to grow up strong.

I normally trust my children's lead as they self-wean once they cut their milk teeth. I am on child #3. He's 18 mos and BFing full time. I am a WAHM, and, thankfully, capable of doing this for him. Abundant evidence supports self-weaning and can be viewed all over the place especially LLLi. Eldest is 17.5 yrs & a graphic designer. Anyway, good luck!

The world health organization suggests breastfeeding a minimum of 2 years and longer if possible. World wide weaning average is around 4. Then to breastfeed along with "complementary foods" for two years and BEYOND. There are lots of ppl who feel extended breastfeeding causes social issues, but it is usually the opposite. BF babies have had there needs met and grow up to be healthy independent kids. :-D

Few days ago I was in a bus, and there was a women with a small baby. The baby started to cry and the women breastfed her! That was the most beautiful thing I saw in a long time! I think that the women have to be able to breastfeed their children anywhere and in any time they want and need! And yes, I am a women.

I know a woman who breastfed her three children (two girls, one boy) for what so many people seem to consider to be a very long time (four or five years). Human milk is for humans, cow milk is for cows. Formula was developed for corporate greed. Breastfed children have proved to be healthier, and my friends' kids certainly turned out well. And no one has any complaints about the warn, convenient, and attractive containers Mom's milk comes in! I still try to breastfeed as often as possible.

I love love love this video! We had planned on nursing our first son beyond two years, but at 16 months we got pregnant with our second. It was very hard on Ollie. He wasn't ready for it and took it very hard. Plus he had never had formula or cows milk so trying to get him to switch was horrible. I felt so bad for him.
I'm 7 months pregnant now and will be breastfeeding this baby.
I loved his little naked butt at the end! Great job! :D

@566sexyangel Just a guess but she may also practice elimination communication (meaning the child uses a potty from VERY early on, and momma watches for cues or he may have been potty learning. When mine was first learning the potty - being bare bottomed was far easier for him to remember to go to the potty & made for less accidents. He is 3 1/2 now & has it down pat but still will go pantless if he can get away with it. :P

They recommend we nurse our babies for a MAXIMUM of 2 years. 6 months isn't enough for your child, sorry! Women think their job of nursing their babies is over at 6 months when it really just began. 6 months is the easy way out...What do you plan to do after that 6 months is over??!! Switch to formula? (The World Health Organization actually is teh two year recommendation - AAP recommends to 1 yr & then beyond)

Also - be careful not to alienate others. I agree formula is far from perfect & we need better regulations & better options for those who can't or choose not to breastfeed or choose not to stop, but ANY breastmilk is good. We don't ever want a momma to FF from day one since she feels she may be unable to go a year so why bother. I planned to BF until work (6 wks) - I made it to three & 1/2yrs. SUPPORT any attempts!

Beautiful. My daughter is 10 months and still breastfeeding and I plan to continue until she wants to stop. Even if that is until she's 5 or whatever =]

I breastfed both my children until they decided to be done with it. My son was 13 months and my daughter was 14 months when they called it quits on their own. I was sad to close that chapter. It's a wonderful, beautiful time in a mother's life to be able to nourish her baby in this perfect way.

that is discusting to still have a grown child sucking your boobs! This is a sick world we live in when a woman thinks she can cover up her actions by saying what a beautiful thing it is. I'm ALL for breastfeeding, but is should be cut off by a year and a half at the very most. By then they are already talking and can say boobs and have all of there teeth. This is a grown child now and it's perverted to still have a grown kid sucking on your boobs. It's discusting, get ur jollies somewhere else!

@candlephone1 breast feeding is mostly looked down upon where we live if the child is over 1 or 2 but think of this, in under developed countries mothers feed their child that way until they are at least 4-5 years old. I was told by a nutritionist that it is healthy to breast feed until the age of 3, it's your discretion. There's a difference in being perverse with your child and feeding your child.

@gforceproduction you totally took that the wrong way! the person i replied to said it was perverted to breast feed a child. when it is not. it is completely natural. I AM a parent, a great mother and have breast fed my child up until he was 10 months old., he is a healthy, smart, happy child.... so you have no say that I am not a parent. Breasts arent for sexual purposes, why else would we produce milk...to provide nutrition for our children. I was not in any way being ignorant thank you.

@candlephone1 True these women probably don't work! so for them until the child is 5/6 is good! You're right its disgusting. Breastfeeding is for babies! Babies don't have their teeth yet, so the mother makes milk to feed her new born! But North American women who are home all day long need their tits sucked! They can't take control of their children.Thats why they believe in Self weaning which can take 8 years?) Mothers need to take control, thats what parenting is about!

My son got his first tooth at 3 months old. Should I have quit nursing him then? After all, you said breastfeeding is for babies and babies don't have teeth... explain that one to me. Please, I'd love to hear what you have to say about that.

@candlephone1 They say these organizations recommend crazy ages, but they don't tell you about the children that were breastfed that still have colds and allergies! Its not magic milk! These women want need breastfeeding more then the child does, they can eat food like everyone else, because they are not babies! They are getting less nutrition because its not the actual food its in one body to the next! at 2 or 3 you need more than breast! Food is in abundance here this is not africa

Yes they can feed themselves, but why would anyone want to switch over to milk from another species when we are still able to provide milk ourselves?
Your argument makes it seem like as soon as a child can feed themselves they need to stop drinking milk (whether from the bottle or the breast), which makes no sense. My son is almost two and only drinks milk and water. Should I cut milk out of his intake all together? No, because he needs it to grow up strong.
