He was a great singer no doubt but Mario Lanza owns this song. The last note in Lanza's rendition is about 8 seconds, about 4 sec. longer than this one, that for me is the second best. Also the orchestra sound in Lanza's is superior, better recorded I would say. But to each his own.
To continue, Corelli's rendition of "Passione" is head and shoulders above all others.
Anyone skeptical of my claim need only listen to the other renditions posted on YT. They include flaccid, indolent renditions by third rate lounge singers.
Ironically, they serve a useful purpose. They provide a dramatic contrast to Corelli's magnificent rendition.
By showing us how badly a song such as "Passione" can be sung, they help us to appreciate just how well Corelli sang it.
Unlike some of my fellow opera buffs, I refuse to say that a rendition of a particular aria or song is the "best" merely because it was sung by a favored singer.
No great singer is going to be the very best at every aria or song he takes on. If he didn't record the "best" rendition of a particular work, I will not insist that he did.
But Corelli's rendition of "Passione" is the best I have come across in my lifetime.
Absolutely outstanding. Some people have stated that Franco was king of the "scoops". I'm buggered if I know what that means but I can only think it's a derogatory (sp) comment against his voice. For me, he has the most thrilling tenor along with Lanza. Thanks for posting
Only an artist with deep emotional wisdom can sing like Franco Corelli! He understands, accepts and ap- preciates the human emotion behind the lyrics of this classic Neopolitan song! His phrasing is poetic but conversational. He establishes a dialogue of shared experience with his listeners. His empathy and ex- pression make everyday feelings of love and passion noble and we feel connected as equals. Your seamless animation makes the il- lusion of a live performance real! Bravo!
Marvelous voice and interpretation of beautiful Neopolitanian song. I like how maestro is moving in your video. Grazie dear Elba and teachertenor for sharing with me.
Buona domenica anche a te,cara Elsa e scusa il ritardo,ma sono dovuto andare giù in Calabria per un festival canoro, ciao e grazie per questa condivisione,PINO

Merely the truth as I see it, spoken from the heart.
Thank YOU and others for posting this magnificent rendition.
As I said, I praise individual performances, not pre-designated performers.
I am not a fan of any one singer. I am a fan of great performances, by any singer who can pull off a great performance.
Corelli did just that with "Passione."
