Ed Devereaux went on to help market kangaroo meat. True ! (As far as I know, anyway - saw an article noting his unpopularity in some sectors of society.)
You know, even if it was possible to teach a Kangaroo to communicate in such an sophicated of sounds that can cover any possible situration, it still doesn't mean it would be able to save people's lives.
If someone was in trouble she would more likely stand there and watch them die. Why should she care? they arn't her owner. Training a kangaroo to have a sense of humanity is the biggest strecth of imagination

As the final season was drawing near its end, "Skippy" (real name Jonathan Gallagher) went through a lengthy depression. At the peak of his acting career, he was forced to turn down many job offers feeling that he was being misunderstood and type cast. In 1979 he was committed to drug rehabilitation in Adelaide, where he remained until late 2009. He currently resides in Siberia, where he lives the quiet life of a woodsman, with his partner Russian screen-writer Stanislav Lubushkin.
@TheSnowballEarth You're not Australian, are you? They can retract their balls into their body's so if they get kicked in the crotch they're fine. Rather awesome really... True story.
We went to the National Park back in 1978,and like all dumb kids all of us were asking which of the many roos there was the real Skippy, and whether she had laryngitis because none were doing "CH,CH" of Skippy. The Ranger's house and the National park are now sadly in a bad state.
I know a good story about the production of Skippy.
When the late, great Frank Thring guest starred on the show and first arrived on set he spied a large hessian sack tied to a tree branch containing a large bulky object. Upon enquiring as to it's purpose he was told Skippy was kept inside the sack between takes because it was the best way to keep the wild animal "quiet".
"My God," he drawled. "If that's the star of the show's dressing room then I dread to think what you're going to give me!"
I get the feeling from this everytime I watch it that the little boy wasn't to keen on petting the Kangaroo. Might even been a tad afraid of it. If you watch close there are some small hesitations in his body language. I cant blame him any as they smell bad and those claws can rip you up good. I enjoyed them when I was in Australia and saw them in the wild many times. Even in my yard.
We used to watch and love that in 1980's (in former communist Czechoslovakia). We also enjoyed The Professionals (CI5), Dempsey and Makepeace and lots of other TV series from UK/US/Australia/West Germany etc. under communism. Both sides of the iron curtain spewed lots of BS propaganda against each other, but in everyday reality, we went along quite well (if communists were THAT bad, they wouldn't buy and broadcast TONS of American movies etc.). Visited the ranger house in the 80s.
It was left just as it was after the last day of filming.
Was filmed just outside of Sydney in a place called Waratah National Park.
I understand they had a fire so I dont know if it's still standing.
Used to pass it on the way to Palm beach where they film Home and away

Itwas similar to ''lassie'' ..where there was always someone stuck down a mineshaft......we dont need boss's at work ..just need kangaroos or dogs to tell us what to do!! lol
