  • hey to everybody talking about the weight this guy's doing, quote from T-nation: "Weight on the bar? Let's just say this: a guy with a 465 pound front squat puked with only 95 pounds on the Tabata front squat." Tabata is muuuuuch harder than just doing regular reps, so you have to go lighter.

  • Whilst I don't dispute that Tabata front squats are hard...I use them infrequently instead of hill sprinting........LOSE THE MANPONS!!! You're squatting so aren't even holding the weight!! And even if you were benching, don't be that guy :-D

  • @eyesthatwatch69 This exercise is not about holding the bar. It is a cardio workout. Weight is supposed to add to your body weight. Input knowledge before outputting random nonsense.

  • @trulynot actually it would have high calorie burn as it recruits muscles in the forearm, also it doing them properly can help with exercises such as overhead press and cleans also it is safer as it is easier to release if anything goes wrong. If the Clean Grip (proper) hurts your wrists, you have tight wrists and/or triceps. Stretch your wrists & triceps. maybe i di over react a bit i was just trying to help the youtube community, your sarcasm on the other hand will not!!!!!!!

  • @eyesthatwatch69 I disagree. This dude looks to be about 75 Kgs and he is squatting 40kgs for 20 secs. On a lighter weigh, sure, conventional grip would be better, especially if combined with a military press movement at the end of the squat.

    40 kg...nuh uh....too heavy. Tabata is a killer you know that already I am sure.

  • @trulynot i cud tabata around 60,(been a while since i did tabata),i wasn’t criticising his other vids or the weight but was saying that it would be better if he didn’t use the pussy grip(the name i have always heard it called).i really dont c why ur saying that i’m the 1 that needs counselling when u that cant drop it.i understand he is trying to help people to understand tabata but if you post instructional videos on yt its better to do things in the best way even if u have to do it lighter

    he has a responsibility if hes going 2 post semi-instructional vids 2 show people how 2 things 2ensure that hes doing it perfectly, otherwise if people c his way and do it worse the may hurt themselves.

  • @trulynot firstly u mean scroll down, secondly there are people that have commented that they hav tried this so therefore they will have copied hip, hence semi instructional. unfortunately i am an athlete so wont be able to get into tabata shape until the end of july when my season ends but i will try and remember to do it and in my oppinion clean grip is easier to drop. i will do my best to post it if only because i will prove you wrong and show that its you that need counselling lol.

    @Skwigle It builds crazy aerobic and anaerobic endurance. Even though the weight here is light (for a standard front squat workout) it weighs a ton by the end. Aside from endurance and strength benefits you build ridiculous lung power and mental toughness as well. And honestly that makes your heavy lifts easier too.

    PS - Dan John says this is a great way to perfect your front squat form ... you won't survive if you do them wrong!

    I have to say though that I have a tendency to crack up when watching because of the guy in the background saying push it over and over. If I had been there doing the squats, I probably would have been laughing the whole time.

    Guys, this is not an exercise in training to increase your squat max. It's not even an exercise in getting bigger muscles.

    It's cardio. The most exhausting cardio you can possibly do. Don't believe me?

    Do this for 4 minutes without even using any weights - just fast squats (as fast as you can whilst keeping form) for 20 seconds, then 10 seconds rest. Repeat 7 times for a total of 4 minutes.

    You'll feel like you just died.

  • I do this on a smith machine or with dumbells useing a swiss ball,it definatly improved my leg muscularity thats if you live long enough to reap the benifits it absolutly kills.

    The reason he's only doing 20 kg (95 pounds), is because he's doing as many as he can for 20 seconds, and then only a ten second break. (for 4 minutes)

    Just try it, It's a great method to spark your muscles in a different way. So congrats to this guy, great work!

  • I would like to see a video with you doing that many sets with that weight. Until you do a Tabata don't knock it. I can do 10 reps with 250 pounds but my heart would be pounding in my throat after just 3 Tabata sets with the weight he is using. It's a lot tougher than it looks.

  • afaik there are no problem with weight training while growing up, and if everything doing it tabata style are probably safer since you aren't using as much heavy weight but rather works in the correct movement (and more or less everyone know how to jump into the air raising there hands so there are not much skill needed for thrusters.)

  • learn to squat all the way, you're barely hitting parallel, which is retarded especially with front squats. You should be keeping your heels at shoulder width and squatting until your hamstrings hit your calves. Make sure to keep your back straight.

    also, try doing front squats with a snatch grip.

  • His depth is fine for a Tabata workout,his foot width is fine and his back has a perfect neutral arch. What do you mean by straight?? If you mean vertical,I'd like to see you do that without falling backward. Go back on your couch.

  • You're wrong on that one. I pulled this clip and took freeze snapshots of it, showing the participant's hip joint below kneecap level, thus breaking parallel. This is fine for powerlifting and/or tabatas.

    Also, depth level is not a differentiating factor for front squats or back squats. Whether one chooses to break parallel, go as to the ground or stay above parallel (for supramaximal load), load is what makes the difference.

  • And you can't do olympic front squats with a snatch grip. You do them with the "rack" hand position off a clean.

    You have no clue about the difference between clean (off which you can do an olympic front squat) and snatch (off which you can only do an overhead squat.)
