@MyGummyBlog Uh no, you're not supposed to get one from the beach!! That's illegal! Hermit crabs live 30 years or more in captivity. And you only had ONE?! No wonder it died!

wen i went to the beach i picked up a bunch 0f seashells and put them in a bag to take homw back with me........weni got home i was looking through the bag ,there was 2 hermit crabs but saddly they died the first 2 hours of the day wen i put them in water......

Hermit crabs are not born with a shell. They develop for about a 2 months and then find their first tiny shell to move into. They survive by living in the discarded shells of other sea animals that have lived near them.

If they were,(example: Turtle, snail) they couldn't take it off..I suggest reading a "kiddie" book like "The Little Hermit Crab"just for you.LOOK IT UP.They hold on to their shells with there teeny back legs. Trust me, my hermit crab took her shell off..It was in January and it got her killed for it being so cold..
