Effing Cookie Monster crap ruins everything. Great cover of a great song, and then Mr. Gargling-with-thumbtacks chimes in. Guitars are FIERCE, all the off-time/odd-meter stuff dead-on, and the keyboards are even cool. Doing it in C# is awesome. But why why WHY is this style of vocals so popular and widespread? It ruins so many otherwise good bands for me.

@4sostrander 1st of all, plenty of legendary metal vocalists use clean vocals - i.e., SINGING - so saying they're pussy is ridiculous. 2nd, I don't dislike screams or growls. I like Pantera, Manson, Rage, Devin Townsend. I just think they work when used as peaks, or to add intensity throughout a song. Not when the dude opens his mouth in measure 1 and it's all the same intensity until the end of the song. It's no less boring than a really somber vocal that never goes above a mumble.

no problem. i'm sure my opinion is shared by many who understand 'rock n' roll' and what it means to metal. right now i'm currently debating the pressing issue of 'screaming' vocals for our record as opposed to 'clean' vocals. we will probably end up using both. but only because of how things are shaped now and how it has effected our writing style. it's pretty much inevitable that it will change, but at least we still play with passive pickups and max power valves!
