OMG Duncan McKenzie, Elland Road was amazing when he got the ball, we just knew something exciting was going to happen. His autograph is one of my most treasured possessions. Those were the days. I met most of the Leeds team back then but never Duncan :(
In my opinion McKenzie was the most gifted player to play for Leeds, and that's saying something when you consider that Eddie Gray was in the same team.

there was only one king and he never played for everton or leeds, the magnificent Denis Law, he,s the greatest inside forward that the world has ever seen, my grandad saw all the greats of yesteryear, Dean, Liddell, Tommy Taylor, lofthouse., even great overseas forwards, De Stefano, Puskas etc, but he said he,d never seen anybody as good as Denis Law, Bill Shankly said he was the best player outside of his beloved Liverpool, praise indeed.
"Duncan , Duncan , born is the king of City Ground Duncan, duncan. " FOREST fans would sing this. Still remember him putting Man City to the sword on his own in the F.A CUP when we were in div. 2. forest4 man city 1. 1974
This is such an odd pairing! McKenzie was a gifted but inconsistent cult mid-70's icon, like Charlie George or Alan Hudson... while Denis (in the early 1960's) was one of the most complete inside forwards in British soccer history!
You would think that the players would require more ballhandling skill today than back then. Unfortunately we never see players excell in the little things like we did then.
These two were true artists and they played on pitches which were totally inferior to the carpets they play on today....it's incredible watching the classic matches on TV where they played in snow and on very hard bumpy pitches....Ronaldo wouldn't stand a chance really, especially against Chopper Harris or Hunter or Dave Mackay
McKenzie was a great player, i have a season ticket in the main stande for everton and me and me dad see him watching the game every so often, and is there a video of him jumping the mini, would be great to see that :)
Yep agree a great player and I am a Utd fan. Like wingers/ dribblers and players of that era such as McKenzie, Gordon Hill, Steve Copell. Glad you enjoyed the video.
hehe, I just met him in a hotel, i had my everton shirt on which got us talking. then he got this foam football from a little kid and started juggling the ball on his head and doing kick ups, it was completely surreal, and he's really nimble for a guy of 59, he's a great guy too!
Duncan was a great player, My era was 1976 or thereabouts, was just 10 and was getting into following football teams. I chose Man Utd dunno why (I Later found out my Dad was/is a CITY FAN!!) And my heroes were Coppell, Gordon Hill, Albiston and Big Joe But I always admired McKenzie and Tony Currie great players dribbling, shots etc - Whatever happened to 'em??
Also the players that were highly skilled then, notice something?...they did not go down on the deck to get a freekick, 1976 I was 21....! I agree Currie was a very good player, how many England caps did he get?? not a lot!
Totally agree mate, point in fact - Ronaldo (a great player) you "touch" him on the pitch and he moans like a baby, he crashes his Ferrari and WALKS AWAY!! Go figure eh!! I remember collecting the panini stickers of the football teams in those days, First division - Bristol city & rovers were there, Brighton etc. Happy days as I look back with rose tinted glasses!! To be honest I think football has been over exposed - nowadays I dont get too upset if I miss footie on tv, maybe i am getting old
When the pound was dropping down on the Euro, a flicker of a smile came over my face..lets watch the mass exodus of foreign players leave British teams...its a business.
Yes Man Utd wouls say oh hell we got to go away to Southampton, or Stoke, or QPR, it was much more open competition in those days. now? oh! we lost the league title we dropped a point away!

Notice how Law didn't celebrate the goal? That goal sent United down to Division two.

Football back then was a real "man's game" - now you can't touch a player for fear of fouling!

Hi thanks for the comment, the footage is from old VHS tapes I had, I managed to import them into my iMac and convert them to digital format.
