@slepysmurf - Hey man. It's some-what to do with the heads but also the tuning. Find the range of the drum... That will help. I normally do the bottom head slightly tighter than the batter head

I know the African American gospel musicians are champions in this kind of playing but if we must imitate, let us imitate them fully. They never sound off!

Good song; My problem though is with the keyboardist. It makes a song sound much better if all the stringed instrumentalists keep to the basic progression and rhythm of the song. In other words, the keyboardist and bassist should basically punch in with the kick of the drummer. Slurring or dragging some odd chords just makes the song sound awful particularly for this video where the bass cannot be heard.

You don't work!!!! Every bit of worship music is centered around The piano! It flows with the keys the vocals are singing! Most of the worship music in America uses Piano,look up Israel and New breed...piano never drags a song! You must not have a good ear!

Thanks man I was just telling someone that said "Keys don't need to be in the band" I play for this church now...that once their original drummer left.They looked for new ones...and nobody would do because they couldn't play along with the keys! I can so I got the gig,even if you don't play worship music....as a musician you have to play with anything! And especially if you want to be pro!

That's a Pearl ELX! Don't know what the mics are, hadn't seen them before and didn't check them out!

I like 2 use Shure Beta 91 (sometimes with a Beta 52 for some extra beef) on the kick drum. Shure SM57 on snare top and bottom, sometimes on ti=oms but i do like the Beta 98's. Shure SM94's are cool for hi-hats and overheads.

I like the Audix mics as well but Shure are more popular.

One of the best things you can do 2 improve speed without practicing is 2 make sure sure you're using good technique! Not a specific technique but one that works for you!

Holding the sticks right, learning how 2 control the sticks and being comfortable with your technique will instantly improve your speed.

Practicing (correctly) will do that for you anyway. I have 2 confess tho, i haven't had a proper practice in about 3-4 years. lol
