1) He refers to himself as a metalURGist, when most refer to themselves as meTALurgist - different emphasis on the syllable.

2) "Skins, coatings and residues..." Does he mean resins?

You do have a point in a way. He does not sound very "Literary".

My best friend is a Computer/Tech wizard. He is rather brilliant in machines and computers. He has a high IQ. He is one of the very few people in his company that can run the CAD machines.

However....he speaks poorly as far as grammar, spelling, and sentence structure is concerned.

Being smart does not mean "well spoken".
