@VicRattlehead4 Sorry, to me drum has little musical value, except in the background for rythm. In the foreground it just senseless banging. I just find little to no musical value to the toms -- especially the toms.

@brianallancobb What can I say or do about it -- I hate drums. Only jazz and bossa nova understand, it seems to me, that drums should be more in the background. I don't like very much "I can see for miles" presisely because it is so "drum-focused". I know Keith Moon was one of the best, but I still don't find anything musical about drums. Too often the keyboards and base f f ff ff fade away in the background because of the noisy drums. Mitch (jazz drummer) has it right on "Are you experienced?"

I had to go and listen to Are You Experienced. It was good, but would have been better with Keith Moon on drums. :-)

You might not have liked the opening of a Santana concert I attended in 1982. Carlos, the bass, and the keys hit a single chord once and let it sustain for five minutes, while the drums, the timbales, the congas, and the cowbell took over.

@brianallancobb I guess drum solos are ok in a concert, but otherwise I hate them. I can see that great drummers are incredible performers (and I would include Carl Palmer's solo at the Isle of Wight 1970 concert), but most of the time I find that drums spoil songs that would have been great otherwise. An excellent example is Pink Floyd's The Great Gig in the Sky -- remove the bloody banging of the drums and it becomes subliminal.
