  • I guess D'Arcy didn't really get along with the guys and Billy was ready to disband...either way glad they're making LPs again

  • hungarians are dirty filthy animals, that deserve to be gutted like fish

  • i don't have this song...

  • all SP rules? dude, all up to Adore, and after that, not so much.

  • @meddlingmage23 You're obviously not a true SP fan. Or a fan of music, honestly. Billy matured as a musician. You should be able to respect that.

  • @33MellonCollie um, if being a fan means being blind to the fact that most of the stuff Corgan (not SP, since now it's just Billy Corgan and 3 random niggas) came out with after Adore was bad. Machina was salvageable, and the stuff after that is just sad. So you're saying I have to like something because it has the name "Smashing Pumpkins" on it? GTFO. Being a fan =/= being a mindless zombie.

  • I always wondered why they never exaggerated Billy's height when he was on the Simpsons. I mean, he's 6'4", that's tall, and knowing the show, I figured they'd make him look freakishly taller than the rest of the characters to be funny haha.

  • nice video i miss the original pumpkins too

  • I'm gonna buy a walk-in humodor!

  • one of his most simple amazing songs...lyrics are so brutally honest and true.."love her when your love goes unrequited"..makes me feel ok with that for some reason.."dirty your face with longing and grace"..reminds me of when you havent seen someone for a long time and you shower them with kisses...and of course "purity just begs"..like when you really honestly like someone and that purity of emotion just drives the whole thing...RAD

  • @langoste Hmm... I like the purity just bathes part. Yeah makes sense.

  • @langoste I couldn't agree more. One of the most meaningful, sorrowful songs I've ever heard.. and it's so simple...

Billy + acoustic guitar + mellotron + extremely beautiful poetic honest, sad lyrics = one of the best SP songs ever. Easily in my top 5 songs of all time.

  • one of the most beautiful songs, ever. period,.

  • such a shame: such a beautiful song accompanied by possibly the shittiest video on YouTube. :[

  • "We're wired into sadness..."

  • "we're wirder into sadness..."

  • @medellia85 WEIRD... Google it.

  • @sTarWGurL25 lol it's "Wired into sadness." I don't give a shit what "Google" says. It doesn't

even make sense to say "We're weird into sadness." We are "wired" into it, thus we cannot escape it. Thanks. Have a nice day.

  • @medellia85 Oh okay sorry, I havent heard this song before that day so... I thought you were just dumb, and couldn't spell. I was just trying to help you out. Oh wait, you can't spell. Okay then.

  • And another thing: this is the single greatest song ever written. Perfect, pure emotion. Everything I've ever wanted to say to anyone is lamented through this song.

  • so beautiful...unrequited love is haunting for anyone but when you're Billy Corgan its transcendent

  • jimmy never says anything!

  • this song is good, but i kind of like the newer version billy plays live

  • 2:44 I do

  • @xxxXGuNzXxxx i do too

  • this is one of the most beautiful SP songs ever, and just songs in general. I know exactly what Deathtimereverend means, this song is extremely heartfelt, and has such a perfect depiction of heartbreak.... Just incredible. Easily top 3 SP songs for me. And maybe top 3 songs ever.

  • End of the real pumpkins!? Clearly you're not a musician and if you are, then you're not a good/knowledgeable one.

Those of us who are true appreciators of the musical genius that is Billy Corgan in the shape of the pumpkins KNOW even the not so good tracks are still Pumpkins!

  • @xxxjosieludermanxxx LOL billy musical genius? excuse me but James Iha wrote 2/3's of all the pumpkins songs. James Iha WAS the pumpkins, billy was nothing more than a front man.

  • @blackstones83 Lol, that's actually incorrect. I love Iha but Billy wrote 9/10nth of the songs by himself. The other 1/10nth were co-wrote by James and Billy. Not to say that James wasn't a huge contributer, his influence made it onto the albums one way or another. But essentially Billy is The Smashing Pumpkins.

  • @779flipingsweet if you were a true pumpkins fan you would have known that billy forged most of the documents, but iha didn't care because he would still be paid. Billy did so to have leverage over iha because iha had leverage with d'arcy. billy called d'arcy a crack whore, she left and james follow because they used to date.

  • @blackstones83 what? You're a weirdo

  • @blackstones83 No, still wrong. He didn't forge anything, where are you getting that information from? Iha and D'arcy did date, but it ended badly. It wouldn't be the reason Iha left. Billy called D'arcy "A mean spirited drug addict" which could have been true, she was certainly a drug addict but I don't know that she was mean spirited.

  • @779flipingsweet He's getting his information from a man wearing a tinfoil hat and garlic around his neck.

  • Google the albums Gish to Machina2: The Friends And Enemies Of Modern Music, Billy Corgan wrote 90% of The Smashing Pumpkins material, I like James Iha but you are wrong. James Iha wrote 10% of The Smashing Pumpkins material, I like James Iha and I like his solo album but I'm going to start making stuff up.

  • @nicholsjoshua15 yes because its on the internet you beleive it. i'm sure if someone put on the internet too you were gay you'd believe it too. cogan is a theif and thats all i can say.

  • @blackstones83 If it's on a conspiracy theory site you believe it. I'm gonna Believe what James Iha says over what a fruit loop like you says. I like James Iha and I own his solo album it's really really good, but it doesn't sound like Smashing Pumpkins it sounds like REM.. Zwan's (Billy Corgans super group) Album "Mary Star Of The Sea" sounds a lot like early Smashing Pumpkins. The proof is on my side and history backs me up. A man with a tinfoil hat and garlic around his neck backs you up.

  • what are these fucking bullshit messages??? you have ruined the fucking song for me you jackass stop being a nostalgia faggot and fuck off

  • This song is epic foreshadowing of what happenend to them...

  • @SmashingPumpkid What did the song say "Billy Corgan will rock out in an album named Zeitgeist, will amaze you with an EP called American Gothic, and turn the rock that you knew as Smashing Pumpkins on it's ear with an awesome box-set called Teargarden By Kaleidescope"? I didn't hear that part I guess I will have listen to this song again.

  • @nicholsjoshua15 Thats funny... its in between the part about the rotten apples, and dirty your face with longing and grace god given

  • best ever

  • as much as you guys try to convince yourselves that zeigeist or any of the new songs are ok..they are not..everytime i listen to a new song Billy writes...i am frustrated and very very sad...what the hell happened to him???

  • this song makes me feel like i'm in an apple orchard with the love of my dreams.

  • The violin sound in this song is so reminiscent to that in the song "Catch" by The Cure. Must be why I love that song so much :)

  • I bought tonight tonight single a while back and always listened to the b-side more...

    anyone else do the same??

  • i gots this album

  • Hey. I like Zeitgeist. Your comment made chuckle, though. (seriously, what's wrong with "Bring the Light" and "Pomp and Circumstances"?... plus, that cool nat'l anthem thing they did in the middle of "United States" on tour.... ....no?)

  • @TheToArBr2 'United States', 'Doomsday Clock' and 'Tarantula' are the only real good songs from Zeitgeist...

  • hey!!! they had some pretty good songs on zetigeist. Bring The Light was good song

  • @radiofan15 Bleeding the orchid

  • @radiofan15 Listen to Ma Belle and Stellar from the bonus Zeitgeist and tell me what you think...

  • @radiofan15 Actually, that whole album is great. Neverlost, That's The Way, Bleeding The Orchid. All very great songs.

  • @33MellonCollie So what is "great" on your scale? 5/10? Hummer, Mayonaise, Geek USA; those would be 9-10/10

  • @meddlingmage23 No, no, I can admit some songs/ albums are better than others. Of course I would pick Hummer over A Stitch In Time, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it is a great song. (8/10)

Just as you may pick Soma over Zero let's just say. And one of those "3 random niggas," as you so illiterately put it, has been a member since 2006, that's nearly five years. Corgan is and will forever be a genius. Teargarden is coming along quite well and I say cheers to him!

  • @33MellonCollie personally I didnt mind zietgiest, all n' all though it was pretty hit or miss though (IMO) but 'United States' was just straight genius but FYI the others have all left (ie. Chamberlin) or been fired (ie. the other 2) so yeah it is just corgan and i guess 3 other random people as far as I know......

  • @kingoftheswing000 Chamberlin was fired again in 2009. The member I was referring to was Jeff Schroder. He's been with them since 2006.

Now, is the original line up better? Yes. Has Corgan lost his touch? Absolutely not.

  • @meddlingmage23 And here's to the next twenty years!

And Machina was only "salvageable?" So many amazing songs off of that album. Age Of Innocence, Try, Try, Try, Raindrops + Sunshowers.

It seems to me you're stuck in the past, stop living in 1991-1998. Okay, it's 2011 and The Pumpkins are still going strong. Accept it.

  • @Jake1619 In the literal sense or figuratively?

  • @radiofan15 By the way: Billy Corgan has said he's sorry a multiple of times.

  • @Jake1619 No, he's not. He's still awesome.

  • yeah the original formation must be reunited

  • @GRUNGERINNIRVANA the original lineup wasn't together from 1996, it's bullshit that people think the lineup changed at 2000. look at the history of the band, the four original members were only together as a band to 96 and then there was a few years without jimmy and d'arcy left almost two years before the band split in 2000

and Billy and James just couldn't stand each other anymore, it happens in life - friends fall out/people change. it's just natural

  • darcy was so hot at the rolling stone session

  • ....the END of the real pumpkins......sad but true

  • God damn Gorgeous song. They were so creative at this time I mean a double album and a mulitutde of b sides they were fantastic!

  • The Smashing Pumpkins were untouchable musically during this era! They really took the whole genera of alt-rock and took it as far as it could go with MICIS, and all the b-sides along with it.

I wish Billy would just give up on this whole new Smashing Pumpkins thing, it is embarrassing. At best, it should be called what it really is. Zwan 2

  • I love this song. I cannot believe that this was just a B-Side. Very beautiful and dark. Perfect.

  • How can you people critic-size James Iha or his passion for D'Arcy I mean James Iha is a genius. Technically he's like the Jimmy Page of nowadays. Personally he's really introvert. Give it a rest he's just a musician/songwriter for god's sake.

  • Meh, I think dope should be to blame for what happened with them like it was to blame for much of what happened to alternative bands in the nineties, Pumpkins and Nirvana were the most high profile affected, but it got Layne of Alice in Chains too. Billy was a dictator in the studio and a perfectionist, but things were all good until Jimmy and Darcy got too drugged up. JMHO.

  • All SP rules! EVERYTHING from Gish to Teagarden. Corgan is a genius!! LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY SP!!!!

  • If you're a man I want to shake your hand and if you're a woman I want to grab you and kiss you. I'm glad to hear someone who is not complaining about the change in the mood of Smashing Pumpkins. You my friend are an adult.

  • @nicholsjoshua15 Thank you very much. I am a boy so you would be shaking my hand haha. However, I am only 13, so being called an adult is quite the compliment. I don't like 13 at 5'10", though. So, you're half correct. But yes, Everything that man has released is pure genius. Whoever doesn't enjoy only feels so because they don't understand it. Such a shame..

  • @33MellonCollie Look* 13

  • rotten apple - alice in chains is better :P

  • Nah, forget Alice in Chains. Pumpkins is the real deal.

  • i'm agree with you drevo666

  • love it

  • Any single Smashing Pumpkins song still sends a shiver up my spine.

  • MCIS and Adore were the high water marks for the Pumpkins both are just incredible albums. I tend to think if they would have actually ended it after Adore they would have forever been legends.

  • Ohh, if only..

But Machina had some classic to bear too.

  • dust to dust we're wired into sadness

  • I noticed that too .

    The end thing .

    It's so sad .

  • Very sad song :(

  • I was a freshman in high school and wrote the lyrics with a caligraphy (I know I spelled it wrong) pen and I gave it to a senior chick that was the head of the cheerleading squad. I know that it was pathetic, but I said hell why not Billy Corgan would do it, and as I recall he said in an interveiw "once a pumpkin; always a pumpkin." I always remember hearing Gish when I was like 7 years old and my mom hated it because it sounded depressing. I am 24 now; so that was a year after Gish came out.

  • aw pumpkins, we all miss them c:

  • one of the most beautiful songs that (for the most part) nobody knows........

  • One of my absolute favorites. It kills me that this didn't make the MCIS cut.

  • c'mon tutorial anyone??? =(

  • Comment removed

  • une merveille !!

  • i wonder when Billy realized he went from the best band in the world to crap. Surely it had to be right after Mellon Collie.

  • I doubt he regrets a single thing except maybe the loss of the original members of his band, you know why? Because he is an artist and he expresses what he feels and wants to, the music of the smashing pumpkins was not created for you, billy makes it very clear that the smashing pumpkins was not intended to be mainstream so why should he care if you dont like every little thing he did? The only thing i think went wrong was billy's ego.

  • Indeed it was, indeed it was. Gish, dream, and collie along with the B-sides to all 3 was the pumpkins. I strongly wished they would have made atleast 1 more album in the same vein together. That would have CEMENTED them as legends. As it stands now some people would say it's up for grabs. (i personally don't think so)

  • i hope you dont call yourself a fan because a fan would never say that..adore was the album that opened a door into a new direction he wanted to go in (William Patrick Corgan said that in an interview)

  • The smashing pumpkins are the best band ever and it's not even close in my eyes, so yeah, I'm a fan. And there were a few very good songs written after Melon Collie. To Sheila is one of my favorites. But let's face it, from adore on, I would have never paid any attention to the pumpkins if hadn't been for their earlier work. I've bought every album they ever made including the zwan cd, and after Melon Collie, I went from amazed and awed to trying to convince myself that it was still good.

  • ....hummm machina was just as amazing it was like all of the cds wrapped into one, and it told the story of the pumpkins, glass the fallen swans of grace and so on.

  • i agree, after adore they rlly seemed to change im working on downloading every song they have ever preformed but with 538, where do you start?

  • A list of all their albums before 2000 Gish Pisces iscariot Judas 0 Mellon collie siamese dream Adore Machina Machina 2 Aeroplane flies high . Thats about most of them . b-sides eps and stuff .
  • Adore is their best album.

  • i agree

  • i remember hearing on the radio that billy said one of the things he regretted was the breakup of the band and some other stuff

  • Does anyone know how to play this?? Im an idiot because I cant read guitar tabs. Ive learned several SP songs on guitar, drums, and piano but cant seem to figure this one out. Please someone find it in your heart to maske a tutorial.

  • I can read tab, and I still have trouble with this song. I have been trying to learn it for some time.

  • what is the name of the song

  • Rotten apples by the sp

  • Wow Pumpkins Never ended. it bothers me, it's really hard to respect that opinion, because for any person like Billy Corgan who gave a damn about his music and continued it takes a lot to be the new pumpkins. Shame on you, the Pumpkins never ended. They never will. The Pumpkins forever \,,/

  • Not enough hits? Seriously? I mean, I guess its nice to hear stuff you know, but jamming is when a artist shows what is inside him/herself at that moment. It is where all the passion comes out. It is when an artist can be an artist and not a jukebox. I love their hits... thats why I own their CD's. But I dont want to be at a Jimmy Buffet concert when I see my favorite band... I want to know they are alive and in it. Sorry... I am just so sad that everyone only cares about the hits!

  • Love the sp's but i went to see them live last year,,, it was ok but just not the same too much jamming not enough hits

  • o i love this song greetings frm kentucky

  • This is my favorite SP song. Greetings from IN!

  • dude, ur a pumpkin hater, i hate you

  • where the cool winds blow I must surely go, for my love calls me below to drag her from the depths of my soul...

  • I MISS THE OLD PUMPKINS

  • there still good to me

  • me too

  • ok please tell me that radiofan15 is a pumpkin fan? Does he even know anything about this band? Billy has attempted to talk to james, but james just wont respond and runs away from Billy. Anyway those two(james and darcy) couldn't even play well enough to be in the recording process. Billy, Jimmy, and the original studio producers will tell u that.

  • Yeah... i'm a fan... but i don't know what eat billy this morning or 10 years ago....

i'm just miss the old pumpkins, sorry if i don't read the unauthorised autobiography

  • ok well i do also...i just cant stand when people blame billy and jimmy for the band's breakup. I havent read any autobiography and didnt even grow up when they where huge. I am 15 right now, and i can tell u that billy was not the cause of the disband. The old stuff was better (expecially the non hits) but the new isnt all bad. All u have to do is watch and read up on things to see it my way. If u get the chance watch the Chris Isaak Hour with SP on it

  • @radiofan15 Nothing about the unauthorized biography, the shit with James and Darcy is common knowledge and has been for years. Billy be a perfectionist, but it works for him, without that we wouldn't have any of the pumpkins's awesome tunes. I'm sad Jimmy's out now, but I could give a crap about the other two. James always thought he was better than he really is, did you listen to the songs of his on Mellon Collie? I make fun of them everytime I spin that disc.

  • @junestormcrow yeah... are so boring... billy rocks...

  • @junestormcrow PS. even if james is a bad songwriter and a egocentric... billy still being guilty for what happen with the old pumpkins...

  • I dont know why the pumpkins broke up before. Tell me please

  • @GLboy1 They 'couldn't compete with the Britney's of the world'- Billy Corgan.

  • @radiofan15 James and D'arcy did near enough nothing. They all agreed to call it a day and finish the Pumpkins. It was James and D'Arcy who didn't want to come back. It wasn't JUST Billy's fault, they started dislike eachother because of the music ITSELF.

  • @radiofan15 So what? Who even cares about the "old" smashing pumpkins? Its not like James or Darcy did anything, go look at the songwriting credits James has like six and Darcy has none. You can say the SP arent the same and that Zeitgeist doesnt even sound like SP but let's be honest with ourselves, Billy Corgan has always striven to change and evolve what SP is. Go listen to Adore Machina and Machina II. They dont sound like"old" SP either and James and Darcy played on those albums too.

  • I had this song in my head all day. Why?

  • My heart was a shambles when I'd first heard this. Man, I've never experienced any music more relevant to such a state than that of the Pumpkins. Just listening to this brings it all back.

  • thankx a lot.

  • ugh, ten seconds into this song and I'm an angst-ridden teenager again. It makes me want to go back for just a day, 28 is just so old...

  • You're only as old as you feel you are. Biologically I'm 32, but I'm still 16 on the inside...

  • im in ur shoes matey..great song:)

  • I love this song-such a soothing song....

  • this sounds like a mixture of "tonight, tonight" and "stumbleine"

  • Why does this song make EVERYONE feel that painful twisting angst in the pit of your stomache?

  • fuck thats so real... damn only rotten apples left

  • Oh my god. I haven't heard this since last summer.

  • I haven't heard it since 1998!

    Oh. My. God.

  • That's too long.

  • Song brings back so many feelings.

  • Thanks for posting!! Such an awesome song!! :)

  • i know

  • uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh mi favoita :0

  • la mía también...

    bueno, de los b-sides

  • Sí, todos b sides de los Pumpkins son muy bueno. Unos incluso son mas bueno que los a sides.

  • It makes me sick in the best possible way....thanks for the memories Billy.

  • what a great fucking song

  • No other lovers to bend

    Just rotten apples to eat
