  • Yep, you're right, 'Rowland'.

  • Vivian was also the voice of "So White" in Bob Clampett's 1943 Warner Bros. cartoon, "Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarfs" (her sister Ruby also voiced "Mammy", the story's narrator).

  • @fromthesidelines Ruby was Vivian & Dorothy's mum.

  • OMG this music goes GRRRRRRREAT with red or white wine under a full moon mm

  • @readyeddy70 Nice one - agreed, and any warm moonlit or starry starry night will do fine pour moi mon ami.

  • Ms. Dandrige has a nice and mellow voice.

  • Must agree that, Vivian had the voice. However, as I was literally in love, with Dorothy, was very difficult to transfer my deep-hearted love to ANYONE else.

  • @Tony7840 you can love them both!

  • @southernbrooklyngal The only thing is that, I have never met Vivian. However, have never had the pleasure of meeting her. She does sing better than Dorothy did. After listening to, and watching Vivian, I think that I would have no problem falling IN love with her too.

  • oops this is where i meant to leave my comment. I love her voice. Thanks for posting.

  • such a sultry voice Viv had. Beautiful!!!! thanks for posting this. Would love to hear more about her life....a book perhaps??????? :-)

  • Who is the sister at 3:11

  • @Arthro92 Nayo Wallace, Vivian's grand daughter thru her son Micheal.

  • @Rowland108

    Thank you.

  • NICE VOICE... SHE REALLY CAN SING

  • We must remember that Dorothy was primarily noted for her beauty and acting ability...which exploded in the 50s with Carmen Jones. Dorothy had a sex bomb-shell look that was very popular in the 50s...she was a black Marilyn Monroe Singing was a third attribute of Dorothy required of almost ALL black entertainners of that time if they were to get any recognition. However, neither Dorothy nor Vivian made it as recording artists like Ella and Lena, which is were the BIG money is for singers.

  • Thank you this is beautiful. I often wondered if their were relatives of the Dandridge sisters around. I'm glad to see Miss Vivian's grand daughter in this video.

  • Really, Vivian is the better singer all the way around. Her voice is smoky and full of emotion; not contrived and worked to death like that of her sister, Dorothy. I wonder why the entertainment industry didn't see the value in honing her gifts.

  • I must say, without a doubt, the entertainment industry missed out when they passed on honing the talents of Vivian Dandridge. She was truly a talent to be reckoned with and would have given her sister, Dorothy Dandridge, a run for her sequined gowns! Really, she is the better singer and can run rings around Dorothy.

  • @diva4tv Thanks for your comments & agree. Viv was also a great comedien. Living in Seattle in later life using the name Marina Rozell she loved reading stories in funny voices for kids at local school that they loved. She did the voice & singing of So White in controversal 1943 cartoon Coal Black & The Sebben Dwarfs (mum Ruby voiced Mammy & the Wicked Queen). Dottie hated singing live & both hated the sleazy clubs, managers & patrons. Ruby & Mama always favored Dot & Ruby publicly derided Viv.

  • Wow , that moment in 2:15 was captured in introducing Dorothy Dandridge , when Dorothy was nominated for the Oscar for best actress for Carmen Jones !!! WOW it looks just like the movie wow !!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, btw 2:34--is the first time I've EVER seen Dorothy with a ponytail!

    Great pix! Never mentioned that!

  • Her voice was beautiful & silky

  • WOW! This is fantastic!

  • Wow!!! I have to agree...I LOOVVEE Dorothy Dandridge but Vivian's voice is BEAUTIFUL!!! I wish both of them would've been just as famous as the other...

  • @awarren92 Clora Byrant - Trumpeter (Oral History done 1990) "We had a tight all-girl group, The Sepia Tones. We had 2 singers — Vivian Dandridge and Evelyn Royal. We worked on Central Avenue & did one-nighters down to Texas. In 1951 Xavier Cugat's wife Lorraine had an all-girl TV show with 3 white girl bands. Benny Carter & Phil Moore got us our own Channel 5 TV show. The Hollywood Sepia Tones, We were on 6 weeks, but couldn't get a sponsor. It was recorded on Kinetoscope.

  • @Rowland108 is any of there music around on Youtube or anything? Or on CDs?

  • @awarren92 As far as I know the Sepia Tones never did any recordings - A loss to music fans.

  • kool!

  • Thank you for posting these recordings. I love Dorothy but hearing these tracks I realise that Vivian had a stronger, clearer, & more confident singing voice. It could not have been easy for her, living in Dorothy's shadow.

  • Very nice voice. I like it better than Dorothy's

  • R.I.P. Dandridge Sisters!!!!!!
