  • This song only has a meaning for those who were raised when this game came out!

Thumbs up if this intro also gives you goosebumps!

  • @imGenji I disagree rather fiercely. I started playing this game last year, and it has a strong meaning to me.

  • This game is a proof that you don't need FMVs, orchestated music, shitloads of spoken dialogues or all that crap to create THE BEST GAME EVER MADE.

  • /watch?v=ftAyfWKNC7Y <--------- Glow in the dark Metroid Painting! Very Trippy!!!

  • two people is in captivity, the rest is at peace

  • No game will ever come close..

  • I love to link this to people who erroneously claim that Samus has been a silent protagonist until recently.

  • I know video game movies are almost universally horseshit, but man, I would kill for a movie version of Metroid with a big budget, competent production, great acting and an amazing director. Basically, show them the cutscenes from Other M and say, "Do the EXACT OPPOSITE OF THIS."

  • @electricver well, the graphics were pretty in my opinion, but other than that, I agree, do the opposite of what Other M did

  • It's this game for me, that fortified Samus as one of the strongest females in gaming.

  • I'm turning this into a dubstep song RIGHT NOW with "the last metroid is in captivity. The Galaxy is at peace" throughout the song.

  • 2 people are so bad at videogames they couldn't get out of Ceres Station in time and ragequit.

  • @NyookamiNeonfang i think those 2 got the brain sucked by a metroid

  • Man this game was like so fuggin awesome...But i still never beat it my game always reset..

  • THE MOST GOD DAMN EPIC INTRO I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. This game is full of surprises and so many more memories. If you have never played this game, YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON ONE HELL OF A LEGENDARY GAME

  • scientists are under attack by the evil forces of pirates!

im going to ceres to aid them.

  • 2 people can't get passed the Space Colony part....

  • I remember being a ten year old kid watching my older brothers play this for the first time and thinking this was the baddest game ever. Ah the simple life of a child.

  • Doesn't sound like it here, but I always loved the way the sudden cut to the spaceship was so loud.

  • Man that takes me back. Greatest retro game intro sequence ever. God I'm calling super metroid retro... I feel old.

  • This video has been added to your Favorites.

  • lol, at 1:02 the baby metroid was like "wark! wark wark!"

there are thousands tons of metroids out there :P

  • METROID 4 EVER !!!

  • im getting chills down my spine

  • love the music. wish they could do a great remake for the ps3 or something.

  • Just as a final thought, I've been looking and some part of the two official art concepts for MB on SM reminds me more of the Captain N MB, just with less comedy. I was wondering if some part of Captain N inspired this new look, since is was popular. Sounds dreadful, and it may not be factual, but the look is nearly there. As if they just combined them together and let the sense of the original NES design be more the basis and beat it in a way.

  • @silenceofthehills yeah that I've noticed to and had read commentary on sites with other people/fans thinking the same way so I believe that it would fall under popular opinion not necessarily fact. and yeah I truly think that since many fans consider SM the best game in the series which I'd say is undoubtedly correct though milage may very as tv tropes would put it seems that the SM version of mother brain has the most popularity so they stuck with it, I just hope future incarnations keep canon

  • @Jaegar19Ultima

If you look, ZM even has a metal spinal column in the cut-scene and near the bottom and back of its official artwork, like the Aurora unit on 3. I never liked how they drew her in game on ZM though. The brain part was good, but the eye was too big and stuck too far out. Plus, the underside was bulkier and she was lower to the ground than in the official art and original NES sprite. I don't even think you can make out the spinal cord while playing, should be thinner and higher.

  • The mother brain on this intro confused me as there is no eye nor anything, its just featureless like a normal brain. I liked the NES design and its weird that they even altered it. I think instead of removing the version in ZM, they should have left it with a metallic face plate that protects the eye. You blast it off to reveal it. that way the gap is closed and its not just a design change. I like the new MB too, but the NES version as seen in painted art looks damn creepy.

  • @silenceofthehills maybe they figured the NES designs like the designs for Ridley and Kraid were dated and they opted for a retweaking of the original forms for the flashback. hell zero mission takes it a bit further by giving the original mother brain a function only it's rebuilt form in Super had, the ability to launch psi energy from the cyclops eye it was rebuilt with now I do like the original and the flashback form of super's MB cause they got as close as possible for Super Metroid's take

  • @Jaegar19Ultima Yeah, I know. Its inspired by Alien's design a bit, the US manual Ridley is a dead give away. SM made it more into that and Ridley even on SM/MZM has that alien1 ribbed alien head look and body form.

I don't mind MB's differences. I liked them (though Other M's small headed, big eyed version was a laugh). Still, they should have revisiting the old design since its been a while. Would have made for a longer and more challenging battle. Currently, battle length is a joke!

  • @silenceofthehills yeah that is what I read as well, and yeah. yes but I also super metroid in high regard as it pretty much set the bar for the 2-D games being the penultimate in terms of gameplay and story IMO so it's a given. Same here although my only concern is continuity and the fact that Metroid is now influenced by it's manga counterpart so in some respects the game designers would have to follow the manga instead of the otherway around I haven't seen much of other M though

  • @Jaegar19Ultima

Well that is it, adding it closes the gap in to begin with. Remember SM gave her a new mechanical mouth, yet ZM kept to the NES design in not having one. Its a false organic shield of some sorts, protecting the eye, hence needing to hit it to begin with in ZM. Then, in SM, its not needed and the mouth piece was constructed upon her being regenerated with Ridley and Kraid.

Perhaps players were to take the told regeneration for the difference in looks, like a Dr. Who thing.

  • @Jaegar19Ultima

In terms of the manga, it barely shows MB, so this is actually possible. There is only one or two times it shows her eye, but then its a close up that could be considered as peering inside this false sheild with the blackness. With the one other shot that shows more of her, it could be considered as uneeded as of then since there has been no legitimate threat.

The manga doesn't even have the long corridor with those zebtite barriers either, so its not something to worry over.

  • @Jaegar19Ultima

I mean, both designs look weird and great, just at times, the old MB in fuller art can usually beat the new MB design in its gothic H.R. Giger look. The new MB can look a bit cartoony in the official art iv'e seen on it for the game at metroid database, aside one where its eye is closed and in the glass jar.

Again, Other M does it no more justice, though its proportions are off for its escuse. The old just looks REALLY intimidating in art form, also seen at the database.

  • @silenceofthehills The original mother brain had the look of an alien creature than a mechanical life vein which I would almost consider either a mistranslation or mix up due to official story and then there is the manga yet again. Which is not to say I dislike it in fact in retrospect I agree it had an intimidating feel rather than grotesquery as seen in subsquent games which would fit the bill for a space pirate leader from what I've learned about other m I can't say much other than fanservice

  • @Jaegar19Ultima

As far as MB is concerned, I don't think there is much a difference since its pretty much the same all throughout aside the face of the her. I think it was the intended result without any larger hurdles in communication. After that, the artwork in Zero Mission for the Norfair entrance cut-scene is the most respectable one of that variation thus far. SM and its older American comics had only a step above the comedy that it Captain N's version of her. Didn't gross me...

  • @silenceofthehills What I noticed with Mother Brains look on Other M is that they gave her a pupil. If you look at Super Metroid's Mother Brain, shes pupil(less). I think adding the pupil made her look more different (imo) which I didnt like. They also made the eyeball two times larger and her Brain semi rested along the eyeball. Instead of kind of liek sitting on top of her eye. Not that I'm being picky, just to bring her back alone thrilled me. But just somethings I noticed that changed.

  • @TuReal4Lyfe

Yeah, its not so much a complaint on a difference. Even if others can bare it, its still a flaw that makes her look too goofy, more like an earthworm jim villain than anything. I could imagine even the one concept art for SM being in the cartoon of earthworm jim to a point. SM's ingame graphics were a better representation. Also, the one MZM norfair entrance cut-scene is were I really started to like the design even more so. It up there with the older NES one.

  • @Jaegar19Ultima

Also, I can remember the US manuel's sea pirate literal space pirates in its story section. Ouch!

A lot of the new designs are better for the record.

Lastly, I know what you mean on the SM in MZM part. I thought it was interesting revisiting areas not yet effected by years after the blast.

Would've been closer in art/other if they made it in the day on SNES under the All-Stars mind frame, using the SM engine to port Metroid & Metroid2. GBA has a screen size limitations.

  • @silenceofthehills hmm, I guess but still I like revisiting memory lane and very much like designs and concepts intact for the most part which is why when I play the original metroid and super I do like how it manages to retain canon and delve deeper into a more serious storyline. And yeah an allstars SM trilogy revamp in the way mario was done would have been great, but I will say I'm glad to have found a metroid remake online in super metroid's style called "Metroid: Super Mission"

  • @Jaegar19Ultima

Super Mission seems interesting, is there a demo released yet?

That said, there is also actually a Zero Mission one using SM as well. Search "super zero mission". Cool too.

  • so happy when i heAR THIS lol so epic

  • Just completed this with my 6 year old neice watching me all the way.

Showing the next generation the epicness of this game.

  • How are you able to remove the subtitles? I think I was able to do it before, but I am unsure on how I did it.

  • The last metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peash...

  • I love that version of Mother Brain, better then Zero Missions and Metroid 1.

  • @TuReal4Lyfe I agree, because they went for a more humanbrain esque (they even said for shock value) form and they wanted to match it with it's rebuilt form that would be unveiled near the end of the game in super. I didn't care for Zero Mission mainly because it was a complete overhaul that ruined the canon look of the trilogy I see ZM as a way to stir up new side stories into the franchise that otherwise wouldn't exist if the franchise was allowed a normal progression an not be tampered with

  • @Jaegar19Ultima I agree with you 100%. super Metroid can never do no wrong with me. So how do you feel about MB? Basically, Mother Brain in a android form.

  • @TuReal4Lyfe yes I've read about it an honestly Other M has me very conflicted. I love how the battle system/graphics made it far better than the prime series but they really shattered my image of samus which I saw as a strong warrior sure we all have flaws hell solid snake had fears but he didn't let them get to him in combat as for MB, I don't understand why they chose to reference the old foe as they did I don't remember samus fighting androids, they really warped the story in my opinion

  • @Jaegar19Ultima Agreed, now I feel like there will never be a TRUE Samus 3D MB Battle. To bring her back as a Android with amnesia took away from that. What KILLED me about Other M was that we couldn't explore Sector 0. Then on top of it, they watered down the MB Battle. Also not even mentioning the Chozo what so ever really made this a non traditional metroid game. Sakamoto has a nerve to say the Prime series is non canon. But the Prime series was closer to being canon than Other M LOL.

  • @TuReal4Lyfe You got it! Now I know there will be apologists and those who would say they love change but really, why do you think the fans of the original star wars trilogy hate the prequels so much? Because of so much that was changed and taken away that the originals allured to. I read that sector zero was supposed to be the tourian of the game big mistake not showing it I mean if Prime 3 gave us a real mother brain battle and Other M had Phantoon and Ridley then why team ninja?

  • @Jaegar19Ultima Exactly. Well hopefully they correct all of this come next game. Also, please no more prequels and interquels. I'm ready for continuation, progression please lol. Maybe "Metroid 5" will show how Samus gets her power suit back from that hideous Fusion suit they got her in now.

  • @TuReal4Lyfe Aww I thought the blue/yellow form of that suit was really neat. (But Fusion had to be one of the hardest Metroid games they ever made ugh. IMO anyways) But I am in agreement that a sequel should be made. I stll have this game and played it during the summer lol Sadly the AC adapter had turned to crap over the year (and like 8 moves) so I am constantly praying it will turn on and not turn off mid-play xD;;

  • "They discovered that the powers of the metroid might be harnessed for the good of civilization!" - That part always makes me lol when I start a new game. So vague and so 1990s worthy.

  • Of the only Metroid game I've never played, why did it have to be this one?!

  • because you have no mother brain

  • Remember "Ask Dan" from the Nintendo website back in the late 90's? That's his voice saying "the last Metroid..."!

  • lolol, 1:47 looks like they finally trained monkeys to do research! (on the left)

  • @zeyogoat LMAO out of all my years of constantly laying Metroid and watching this cutscene over and over to draw it (90's) I never noticed the monkey until now.

  • It has to be one of the best games ever made, for real.. you're hard pressed to find anyone with a bad opinion of it. I looked for this because I was whistling it all day at work..

  • the classics will always be better than the newer installments, unless the newer installments do somethign that is just so unbelievably good that you just cant say the classic is better.

dare i say this but metroid prime just about did that for me

  • Super Metroid's intro is the epitome of awesomeness. Here's to hoping that Metroid: Other M starts out like this.

  • I. Love. This. Intro. They. Must. Remake. With. Better. Graphics. It. Will. Be Even. Better.

  • @RoyboyX no a remake would be unneccessary for this, ti was necesary for the first metroid because that game just begs to have a map. same as ocarina of time, best leave thigns the way they are and focus on new games.

any, one of the best games ive ever played

  • im happy that metroid other m is being made by the director of super metroid

  • I hope other m starts out like this

  • the Metriod prime games are amazing!! so is super Metriod! their is no better or worse. just diffrent systems and place and time . all the games are amazing and classics !!

  • pure awesomeness

the music gives me the shivers every time i hear it

  • agreed everytime man... i wanna play it on my piano over and over again

  • this is back before Metroid games started blasting electric guitars. Much more fitting

  • The voice heard in this intro is kinda weird.

  • the snes wasnt stong enough to have full blown speech audio

  • I know. I still like that voice though. It's pretty creepy.

  • Metroid prime 1 doesn't have the style like super metroid at all. Fuck de prime games, only the thirth prime game comes closer to super metroid.

They should change the leveldesign, music from the prime games, to create a classical game like super metroid

  • @xtoc Thats why I wasn't to thrilled about prime. Hell, Tallon IV was Earth. Very Earth-like terrain. Nowhere near that of Zebes or SR388.

  • @TuReal4Lyfe I think SR388 is the earth's moon

  • they dont make games like this anymore. Even the metroid games have been a dissapointment, except Metroid Prime 1 and 2. The last one, sorry to say was predictable and a fizzer.

  • Nobody has ever been able to reproduce this song ever. When I hear this, I just get chills.

  • You can totally lose yourself in the music and game, its so atmospheric you forget its a game after a while

  • I always loved this scene.

  • Yeah, it's cool. The music is great.
