ass cock bullshit. strawberry alarm clock and the chocolate watchband had nothing to do with each other. strawberry alarm clock got there name from the song strawberry field forever by the beatles.sam
@jsalomonsky and an alarm clock went off at the end of the song? Good story but no, they just don't want to admit that they named themselves after the Watchband. Flavors and time pieces.
@rrstrychnine actually Strawberry alarm clock did get there name from the beatles. every band wanted to be like the beatles. too bad sgt peppers lonely hearts club band was meant to make fun of the american bands at the time. but british rock can suck my hairy nuts cause garage rock is the shit. bubble puppy and the beacon street union are the best.
I saw them a few times at Cocoanut Grove in Santa Cruz....a fine band that should have gone much further, but those times were chaotic, and that was a very good thing
I really like this group. I wonder if one of the reasons they didn't make it bigger is the name of the group. How can you taker a group named "Chocolate Watch Band" seriously? Count me as another who likes them better than the Rolling Stones,
These guys were much more than mere stones copyists. All three of their albums, and their handful of singles, are all worth checking out. They were a very tight, talented band capable of playing raw r and b, psychedelia, or love songs. Yes, they should have been bigger.
I have heard everything that was released. The thing that makes this so iffy is the turmoil in the band and Ed Cobb's constant plugging in musicians to fill out studio albums. For the producers it's all about the money and that kind of ball and chain went against everything the 60's were all about that is why the band could never hold a line-up together for very long. I think the 1st two efforts are the best; the rest is just patchwork from Cobb. IMO
Sure, but look at the stuff Cobb contributed...can you imagine those first two LP's w/o that music? Brilliant contributions. That's the unique thing about 60's music; if at times it was about money, the styles of music were so inherently great that producers often came up with genius stuff...loads of great 60's psychpunk bands had svengali types spearheading the operation, ie: Litter, Exotics, etc., but in the 'garage' genre, the bands usually played...
I know the leader of the E-types another band that Cobb managed and honestly he (Cobb) had three groups worthy of bigger things and for whatever reason they did not make it. They deserved better than they got. Usually these bands suffered from a lack of management just read any bio and they all say pretty much the same thing. Cobb maybe should have been a musical consultant instead of a manager. IMO
I wish I was drunk right now blasting this song,...Im trying to form a band just like this, and throw in a little bit of the outsiders (the netherlands band not the U.S one)
Mmmmm would not say better, just because no Band is better than the Yardbirds ; I would say there were the Crown Jewel of all the sixties Garage Bands .
Not going to debate with you, the Yardbirds were great. I have several cousins from California that saw CWB in their heyday and raved about the wild shows they put on. Dave the lead vocalist had a stage presence unlike any other since.
i knew mark. he told me some outragous stories about the parties he went to in the 60s. drinking wine on a roof with zappa etc. good time to play music.
My pleasure! You guys deserved a lot more recognition and commercial success than you got. When I ran my college radio show in SC called "Out of the Garage" the CWB was among my most frequent requests and I would have numerous arguments over whether or not it was really you guys or the Stones. I would always reply, "The Stones wish they were EVER this good". Keep rockin'
Uhhh I'm pretty sure at 2:29 he says, "You wanna FUCK AROUND..... I'm gonna SPLIT!!!" Anyway love CWB, love Riot On.

Their third LP. was a quite a departure from the acid punk of their first two releases, which were both great...one of my favorite bands ever...

Has anyone heard of the Jet cover of this song? It pays this respect.
*Jet being the only Rock band worth listening to these days, too bad they're in the wrong era.
