@huskyjerk It's the Jayhawk buddy system, a group of people assembled by KU that say to watch out for your friends, and they all got together probably weeks before the game to make this dance and present it on that night. You basically got it right, they must have saved seats before the game started to have just a section.
@adamrcooney Considering all the others I've seen, this wasn't too bad. I've seen much better. Some of them were'nt too coordinated or enthusiastic(And sadly one of them was close to the camera), but, all in all, I give in a solid B-. Good, but not great.
@cmack2222 A flash mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and pointless act for a brief time, then quickly disperse. The term flash mob is generally applied only to gatherings organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails. Just because T Mobile organised it and filmed it doesnt mean its not a flash mob
Typical Kansas(: ALWAYS thinking of new, fun, and creative things. Me and my friends were directly across from this, Keep Rocking! *RockChalkJayhawk..GOKU!*
They had a sign up sheet during the week at Allen Fieldhouse where everyone was camping and people signed up for it. I'm assuming the dance team was the ones involved but I wasn't there so I can't be sure.
KU- 103
MIZZOU- 86
Not only is KU the best basketball team in the nation, but the best University in general. ROCK CHALK :)
@iIIegal Clearly not if almost 60 thousand people have viewed this video in 1 day and over 70 thousand the other version of this video. Maybe you just need to learn how to enjoy things like the rest of us.
Does anyone ever stop to think why ku fans are such "fanatics"? I mean, there is only one thing/team to be a fan of in kansas, and that is ku basketball. It's one of the least populated states in America with literally no other teams to cheer for. ku basketball is their professional sport.
@jrm59e KU Basketball is nationwide buddy. It's amazing when I go somewhere in the US and randomly find Jayhawk fans. You're just a hater who must not have anything to cheer for yourself if you have time to rag on people's fun.
@dewey9 I bet it must still sting for Mizzou fans that KU in the last decade has a BCS Bowl game victory and Mizzou does not. KU's football team has fallen under hard times but Mizzou's team is STUCK in mediocrity.
Not sure if someone has already answered this but a signup was held for the flashmob. The volunteers came to two hour long practices to learn the dance and were given free tshirts the day of. The dance was coreographed and taught by the Spirit Squad Coordinater at KU and a Rock Chalk Dancer
Dont be upset with jojomattus, he's just abiding by a new law that requires that the word "distasteful" must always be mentioned within the same context as "Mizzou", "MU", or "Missouri". He was just being creative.
Not sure if someone has already answered this but a signup was held for the flashmob. The volunteers came to two hour long practices to learn the dance and were given free tshirts the day of. The dance was coreographed and taught by the Spirit Squad Coordinater at KU and a Rock Chalk Dancer
This was a lot of fun to watch. I think the rest of the students should learn it and make it an official part of the Phog experience! So many other universities have great crowd participation in their chants and cheers, KU could stand to move past the "Let's Go Jayhawks" chant. KU has a ton of talent, on and off the court. Let's put some of that talent to work in the stands! -Jayhawk Alumni
I am a Mizzou alum who attended the game. The students did a really nice job on this. I thought "Simon Says" at halftime was cute too. And I have to say the arena is nicer than pre-renovation. Finally thanks for the good hospitality in Allen Fieldhouse, even though that Rock Chalk chant once the outcome is decided in favor of the home team is pretty distasteful. Not the best sportsmanship. Otherwise...Great fans, and a great atmosphere for college basketball. Well done KU.
@jojomattus Distasteful? Really? Give me a break. It's harmless and really no different than a group of fans cheering once a game is decided. Appreciate the rest of your comments though.
@jojomattus Thank you for the kind words, glad your trip was good. I hate to nitpick when you said so many nice things but I don't see how the rock chalk chant at the end of the game is poor sportsmanship. Chants and cheers are present through all games, why is this one bad at the end? It's not a taunt against Mizzou or any opposing team, it's a celebration of our team.
@jojomattus Distasteful? Really? Give me a break. It's harmless and really no different than a group of fans cheering once a game is decided. Appreciate the rest of your comments though.
@jojomattus Distasteful? Coming from a Mizzou alum? I find that amusing to say the least. Having been spit on and poured drinks on by Mizzou fans at Arrowhead, I think you have very little to stand on. Secondly the Rock Chalk Chant is a way for our team to celebrate a victory at home, has nothing to do with the losing team. It has gone on for a very long time and no sports annoucer or commentator suggests it is distasteful.
@jojomattus Don't like out chant? We only do it when we win. Get the idea? Probably not, so let me spell it out. You have to beat us! Not likely? We agree. We could always chant M I Z WHO! Do you know why Missouri fans chant MIZ ZOU? They can't spell Missouri.
Please explain how all of that was orchestrated? How did you get that many people to join in and learn the routines and dress like that? And you must have had the number of people that was needed down to a T for there were no open seats there. It seems so well organized.
@huskyjerk V There was a sign up for volunteers at Allen Field House for camping groups to see. You had to be available for three separate practices and already have a student ticket for the game. If you participated, you were guaranteed those seats and got a free t-shirt!
@huskyjerk Not sure, but it may have been a camping group and they probably waited until the Mizzou game, which is by far the biggest home game of the season for the Jayhawks, and they probably had plenty of time to practice as well.
@huskyjerk - I was apart of this, I was personally asked by one of my advisors who heard about it to sign up. One of the spirit squad coaches taught us. We only practiced this twice, about an hour each day. The shirts were provided. :)
@huskyjerk Strangely, I do know. It was organized through the student senate and they put up flyers in a couple locations to get people and offered free seats (which is great for any KU student).
@huskyjerk most flashmobs involve someone choreographing a dance and posting it online for anyone to view or a select group. in this case, one could have dance teachers, theater companies, cheerleading squads, etc teach the moves then other people get it and join in eventually.
Obviously you've never been related to or bumped into a KU fan, sigh. My sisters are alumns. After 30 years she still signs her emails with Rock Chalk Jayhawk.
So the question really is, how did they LIMIT the number of people.
@huskyjerk ..its called practice. They had to'uv approached the univiersity with the idea and bought tickets in advance to insure the seating and then they simply practiced the routine during the days/weeks prior. Its easy if you are a part of any kind of organization that communicates with each other(band, church, fraterinity etc).
