They wouldn't be able to see if they were in the event horizon, which if that was the case they'd have a bigger problem on their hands than not being able to see. The light would be bent a bit, but it's just a cartoon. As for the blackhole sucking everything up, it would the stuff near the event horizon, everything else would feel a somewhat strong pull hence the fact that everything near by is being pulled in.
