OMG!!! The gear shift knob is hanging out next to the steering wheel like an oldsmobile! 2009 Mercedes didn't have this weird arrangement, I don't like this new change. This is really bad... Why did they do that? I was definitely considering to buy but because of this change, I don't think I'll even consider, it's also on s550

i got the car, its simply amazing

your wrong about the knob however, its only for park, reverse, drive, and neutral,

you get pedal shifters just like Ferrari, and Lamborghini if you get the sport package and you can change the gears that way

its a good change

The interior is quiet dissapointing as well.

The 09 e500 had a luxurious form following interior that made you feel rich where as this car's interior looks and feels like somthing ripped out of a fancy toyota. It looks nice, but has spoiled the richness that the older benz's had.

The interior may be a bit more functional and roomy but it has lost all its German luster! You dont feel like you're driving a true benz. All the poshness has been depleted quiet a bit and seems like you're driving a low end BMW on the inside. And as we all know, BMW's interiors now are quiet bad. And I partly agree with your point on the styling. The front does look quiet nice (although I would've preffered the old front end) however the back REALLY does look like a jumped up Hyundai Sonata.

The front is okay and maintains the classical yet modern benz styling but the rear is absolutley terrible and not to mention dissapointing. It is so bad infact that if the merc badge was ripped of and a hyundai or some other rubish car manufacuturer's badge was placed there I wouldn't be surprised. It just looks so dull, plain, mundain, and ugly.

The engine sounds ferocious though...big german v8s...very good engine.

Black seems to definitely suit this car best. It is basically a modernized version of the old model.I saw an interview with the designer. He prefers to modernize little by little in stages,nothing too radical. I think it looks lovely in black.

Mercedes has the best production cars in the world, this new E-Class has lines of S-Class, it had total change to its predecessor, Lexus has nothing to do with it, there is no point even comparing the two, Lexus expensive Toyota-waste of money, always had unrealistic dreams to compete to Mercedes, Audi, BMW. I noticed in USA Lexus has high ranking, however its absolute nonsense comparing it to European or prosaically German engineering.

I work for Mercedes and test drove pretty much all of its productions :) own new a4 3.2 fsi quattro, tested BMW & Lexus don't get me wrong my friend Lexus is not a bad car but can not be compared to Mercedes but as mentioned Lexus is out there and some people are passionate about it nothing wrong with it.

I drove a Lexus once. Nothing special. Very quiet and reasonably comfortable but not as good as people make them out to be. Also, Lexus cars, with the exception of the LS, are also very cramped inside. I hated the GS and IS because they felt like sardine cans. The ES was ok and the RX was so-so in terms of cabin and leg space. Mercedes in my experience do a better job at utilizing interior cabin space.

in europe thers many more models that here in the us. the 500 ther is 5,5 litre. they also have 4-cylinders and a diesel V8, and the 320 model that we have in the US, is a diesel not 4matic. it has been discontinued.

The E 500 has the same Engine as the E550. Both have a 5.5L engine. The Us market is the only market that they use the E550 name.

having taillights extend to the trunklid is different for merc and how past mercs have important looking ,higher tail ends vs, this more drab and 'depressed' look? overall the car is progressing but this rear fascia is disappointing to look at. but people will still buy it because its a mercedes
