I had a '65 transporter flat level ground, 60 mph all day long. couldn't get you for speeding

The 1300cc motor gets better gas mileage than the 1500cc. Plus the woman drove more conservatively, which contributes to even better mpg.

That's a new one on me, I thought only the T-3 and Ghia ever got discs...

All of that may have been true in 1966, but i'm not too sure those claims hold up on my '67 1500. 0-50mph eventually, and 78mph at a real streatch. Still a brilliant car tho!
