  • This is awesome! thanks for posting this rare machine

  • Very nice!

  • wat a beauty

  • Actually, all of Doom was done on NeXT, except the sound driver (which was licensed), and then ported to DOS when done (Carmack is a big believer in cross platform, often, bugs that are subtle on one throw compiler errors in others). The NeXT community was playing demos for some time before it showed up on DOS (but I don't think NeXT had sound until DOOM was opensourced).

  • @rpottol Actually, it wasn't. A lot of Doom was written in platform specific, hand crafted assembly code aimed at the PC platform. According to some reports, the NeXT computer was used for building game levels. According to others, it was only used to write the game manual.

  • hi, what did you sell it for?

  • By the way the keyboard sounds like one of those clicky ones, what types of switches are used in the keyboard?

  • The NEXTcube in my opinion is one of the most unique computers known, and the most advanced at the time. It was even used to create the maps for the hit 1995 shooter, Quake.

  • @TheRidgeRacer10 Next computers where used by id software as the primary development platform as early as the first doom.

  • Wow! Sad it´s located in America.
