@laminaatio To bad not, as the rear of the drum module has only one connection, where all the wires go to their own pad/pedal. The only "trick" you could do, is buy a splitter cable for the right pedal (base drum), and hook up another pedal so you can do double base on every drumkit, instead of only with kit 2 (with the variation button pressed), as that kit only takes away the hi hat closing function, and let the hi hat pedal do the other basedrum. I find this not usefull et all,

So for fun i tried hooking up my Guitar Hero World Tour pedal (cheap plastick one, belongs to a gaming drum controller) using the mentioned splitter, and that worked.

Hi! Just bought a Roland HD-1 and can't, for the life of me, figure out how I can record directly onto my Mac (into Garageband). What would I need (cables, programs) to be able to do that? I can record using the Mac mic but eh...quality sucks. Thanks for the tips!

If mac supports midi, and the program Garage band needs to do that as well, then it should work imediately without changes, as midi is a instruments connection standard. I've been connecting my HD-1 to both my keyboards (a Yamaha Tyros 4, and the older Generalmusic WK4), and worked imeditately.

@guj2510 By using a cord with on both end a stereo mini jack. Plug one end in the headphones out of the ipod, and the other end in "mix in".

@guj2510 Yes you can, but compared to a conventional rig, it's a bit limited. I have re adjusted my HD-1 a few months after this video, and this alows me to play a bit more smooth, but due to the supports where the pads are on are so short, the movement is limited to backwards and forwards, just a little bit of sideway's movement can be get.

@guj2510 This means if you hit the snare on the white part, you get the drum sound, but hit the edge (rim shot) you don't get sound, as the rim is not triggered. A triger can detect if that part of the pad is being hit, and sends that signal to the drumbrain.

@RawError after now owning this kit for a little over a year, i can safely say "YES". even the plastic/rubber parts are still fine, no mechanical problems, and after getting used to the somewhat small pads, you can actually have some decent drum fun with it. the only thing that really does not feel the same, are the pedals, but the feel of them is still sturdy and also won't break, even after some good thrashing around sometimes :-D and the price have been going down, so now it's even more value

- do you mind the pedals not being the same as a real drumkit?

- do you mind the crash isn't chokable?

- do you mind there's no real rim shot on the snarre as it's only single triggered?

if one of these questions answer is YES, then you'd better look for something else. but if youre (like me) a starting drummer, but wants the best sound quallity, and not to much mechanical noise, the hd-1 is the way to go.

@laniekr zoals je bij een van mijn nieuwere filmpjes kunt zien (de "will it work" video van mijn keybard verbonden via midi met de roland hd-1), kun je een midi instrument aansluiten, dus ook een nieuw drumbrain. dan heb je er eigen kit's in. of je verbind je pc via midi-usb met elkaar, en koop dan een midi drum programma. ik weet zo even de naam niet, maar dat moet ook werken voor meer geluiden.

@guitarmen66 je kunt je hd-1 op verschillende manieren op je pc aan sluiten. maar als je gewoon het geluid wilt opnemen gaat dat via de line in van je geluids kaart op je pc. voor een drumprogramma heb je weer een midi kabel nodig (van midi naar usb om precies te zijn)

Als je op je laptop een programma heeft die midi ondersteund, hoef je alleen maar een midi-usb (dus van midi naar usb) kabel te kopen, de midi in de hd-1, en de usb in de computer. als je windows xp of nieuwer hebt, zal die vanzelf de juiste drivers instaleren. als dit klaar is kun je dat programma starten, en zou het in een keer moeten werken. mocht dit niet zo zijn, dan zul je in je programma moeten kijken hoe je midi kanalen kunt kiezen.

@GHCustomNL : die heb ik bij een willekeurige audio zaak gekocht. het is een minijack naar minijack kabel.

de kabel voor naar de computer is een midi naar usb kabel. vroeger had je een speciaale kaart nodig waar je een echte midi kabel in je computer kon pluggen, maar sinds de usb poort is dit niet meer nodig, en kun je dus een usb naar midi kabel kopen.

@KillerDrums777 : yes, you could hook another drumbrain to the hd-1, but remeber, the hd-1 cymbals/hi hat has only one trigger, so none can be choked. also the snarre has just one trigger, so no rim shot on the hd-1 snarredrum, while they are in the td-20 drumbrain. if i would add sounds/drumkit's, i'd be using a midi cable between the pc/laptop and the hd-1, and then use a midi drum program.

@crazyjointje : nee, helaas niet, en er zit ook geen echte rim shot in, maar om dat geluid toch te krijgen moet je drumkit 1 selecteren, en dan de variation button. nu is de middle tom (de 2e gumrubberen pad) het geluid van de rim shot. een duurdere drumkit heeft 2 triggers op de snarre, waarvan er dus 1 in de rand hoort te zitten. dan heb je wel de rim shot op de juiste plek.

@sammeprotagonist : if you listen to the last part of the review, you can hear i am such a newbee to drumming, i can't do double base rythems :-) but, i've heard "johny rabb" doing a double base part, and that sounded great. but, there's only one double basse drumkit in there, so there's not much variation to be had. bigger and more expensive sets will have more choice.

@predgr the footprint of the HD1 measures 60 centimeter by 80 centimeter wide. the layout of the pad's can be altered by adjusting the rods where they are connected too, and both the crash and ride can also be adjusted in hight.

@predgr: the only part i wonder if they can take a beating are the connection between the crash and ride, but i guess this can be swapped for real connectors witch are used on proper acoustic kits. you could replace the rod and it's connection with a real one, but other than that, i sometimes also hit it hard, and my online drumfriend daddydrums also can be a hard hitter sometimes. i am rather satisfied with it.

if you are looking for a beginner kit with great response, sound, and easy use and setup, than the answer is yes. if you are a highly skilled drummer, and want to be able to choke the crash, and do rimshot's on the snarre, than i am afraid not. this truely is a wonderfull kit for starters, and it does not make much meganic noice exept for the cymbals.

goed gehoord. ik spreek alleen engels in mijn filmpjes omdat mijn filmpjes het meest bekeken worden door engels talige mensen.

wat de drumkit betreft, dat ligt aan of je de dingen zoals volume per pad, of de aanslag gevoelligheid per pad wilt doen, dan kun je beter voor de yamaha dtx xplorer gaan, maar als je juist voor snelle en makkelijke bediening wilt gaan, dan zeg ik ja, ga vooral voor de roland. hij heeft (mijn mening) mooiere samples, en die mesh headed snarre is fantasties.

ook de rubber pads hebben nog een fijne bounce. het enige wat ik een ietsje minder vind, dat zijn de cymbalen (hi hat, crash bekken, en ride) omdat die toch wat meer mechanish geluid geven bij het er op slaan. maar speel je via een hoofd telefoon of met het volume wat hoger, dan is dat niet echt een bezwaar. voor te oefenen is hij sowieso fantasties. makkelijk op te stellen als je hem niet wilt laten staan, en toch veel instellingen (zie review)

ik ben eigenlijk een gitarist, maar ik ben sinds twee week drummer bij 2 bandjes, en ik heb iets nodig om thuis te oefenen. mn ouders willen geen akoestisch drumstel dus ik wil graag een goedkoop maar wel goed drumstel.

ik zou dus met deze wel een tijdje vooruit kunnen met oefenen? ik heb ook liever een roland, dat staat bij mij beter bekend:P

uiteraard is dit DE perfecte beginner kit. qua degelijkheid kan je zeker wel een tijdje vooruit met oefenen thuis. die behoorlijk geluids arme voet pedalen helpen daar wel mee. ook kun je dubbele bass doen met drumkit 2, en dan de variation knop indrukken. de hi hat pedal word dan de basedrum, en de hi hat blijft open. dit is meer geschikt voor rock/metal en dergelijke.

ik had dat gevoel ook wel, ik had liever een roland dan yamaha. maar dit houd niet meteen in dat yamaha slecht is hoor.

maar de hd-1 heeft naar mijn smaak wat warmere klanken, en de snarehead vond ik gewoon geweldig, en aangezien de snarre de meest gebruikte drum is (samen met de hi hat en basedrum :-P)

there's no speaker built in the kit itself, but you could get yourself the specialy made drum monitor from roland. but i found the low end sound (bass) not having enough punch. so i desided to get me a cable to hook up the drumkit to my home amp. so yes, whatever amp you use, you need one, or, just play with a headphone on.

surely that would work. but be sure to turn down the volume, and the bass, and then just let the HD-1 demo (keep pressing one of the kit presets untill the hd-1 starts demoing) and then gently turn up the volume. than, turn up the bass bit by bit. be sure to turn it back down if you hear the sound deforming on high bass peaks to keep your guitar amp in one piece. tell me if you can get decent sound from it :-) it will help the other musican's too :-)

so if you use a midi cable and hook up the hd-1 to your GHWT drumkit, then you can browse the menu with the GHWT kit, and drum the songs on your hd-1. the only thing is, you can't use the hi hat pedal. in the game, the hd-1 pedal should not be pressed (so a open hi hat). otherwise the game does not register the hi hat hits (3 h's in a row :-P)
