Brilliant, thx for posting this, I've had it on bootleg for a while but never realised there was a vid of this performance, what's it off?
Oh, and to the moaners who are constantly having a go at New Order for having the temerity to play their OWN SONGS, just shut up. Clearly none of you were at this gig and I can tell you this video doesn't do it justice, it was their reunion in '98 and was one of their most intense performances ever, easily as good as when they were at their peak in the 80s.
For such a lyrically powerful song, this was really a lack luster performance. I love New Order and Joy Division but this was just a weak effort. I do like the prologue.
i have to say his 'vocals' are dreadfull on this, could hardly be worse, steves drum also is as if he could hardly care less, drum beats missing, hookys slightly better but his bass is nothing like the original. I suppose as time went by the meaning of it could not be replicated by the band because basically it was a suicide note, and they just could not keep up that intensity ? (understandable).
Bring out the full joy division version before everyone dies of old age. i await the hate mail.
@birdandthe there is one new order live version of this which is pretty good from 1981 and its on you tube where is singing is largely ok why couldent they do it like they did in the seven inch version ?
my god i was at this gig, had no idea it was videoed
this song was the absolute highlight

Bernard sumner manages to mess up every joy division song he tries to do. Good job they avoided them for so long
