Why isn't the top comment about how this is the most epic last stand ever seen in a movie? Because it fucking is! It's a really really good scene, and one of the few that almost made me yell out in the cinema. Strongest, bravest and most honorable warrior in any movie!
the battles in lord of the rings are a little bit cheesey (no offence), no blood and gore or severed limbs! im a massive lotr fan, id just prefer more gore or more realistic fights
I think this scene is so sad because the orcs had to shoot him; they couldn't beat him fairly. Even though he was killed, he took a much larger amount of orcs with him.
@12potatos Don't be too sure, Boromir was a greater warrior than Aragorn acording too the books. Actually in the books. it says that Boromir was the greatest Human warrior that had been for over thousands of years.
OK at 2:35 !!!! COOLEST PART EVER!!!! after the ascending choir builds suspense, the percussion comes in full force with the 5/4 time signature and the french horns playing an octave higher than where they started sounding so raw and distinct and epic!!! and this all complements boromir going ape-shit on the uruk-hai and that knife throw into the throat?!??!! so priceless!!! what a scene, what an amazing scene!!!
Boromir, for a reason you are carrying a giant round shield on your back... perhaps maybe then you wouldn't have been hit by 3 arrows shot from a roaring pig.
Anyone noticed that at 4:52 Boromir's ''Horn of Gondor'' is split in 2 pieces for no reason? It's like in movie 3, when his father shows the broken horn...
Aragorn DID ride into battle before Boromir was born, but Aragorn was not swordsman dedicated like Boromir was. I doubt Aragorn went through the same brutal training as Boromir did. Brutal I am stating because the way Boromir fights.
@silentxXxstride666 I'm sorry to say this, but you don't know what you're talking about. Aragorn has lived much longer than Boromir and has had intensive training in all manner of weapons and warfare. Elrond was grooming him to be king of Gondor one day, what do you think Aragorn was taught, if not how to epicly pwn all the time!!
Boromir is a very tragic person. From his point of view, the men, or lets say humans as such, will fail and be enslaved or destroyed by another race, the orcs. There is no hope and he dies with this feeling about the future and that he has failed.
The orc dude with the big doublehanded whatever thingy at 2:32 clearly disobeyes orders!
It was said to capture the halflings alive! How could he think to knock them halflings unconscious with that huge halberd thing? Thank god Boromir prevented him to stand responsible in front of a fantasy firing squad :-)
@tomtom34b dude if you really watched the movie then you would know this. saruman told the orcs to take the halflings alive but the orc with the halberd was an orc from mordor. earlier in the movie sauron tells saruman that he is sending reinforcments.
@ElectricFish100 i highly doubt that, he looks like any other orc that lurtz commands, saruman-bred. Even if it was the case, hes still disobeying orders. Dead halfings dont speak and cant spill the guts about the ring. Why would the orcs capture merry and pip. Twas the same group of the halberd guy that cought them. The scene just doesnt make any sense. First try to cleave them into small halfling bits, then suddenly capture them?
im guessing that this isn't the extended edition because in my extended edition before lurtz throws the knife at aragorn, he licks the blood off of it
when i read the books, i never really liked boromir because tolkien never went into much detail about his death, just how he tried to take the ring, but after watchign this, now i like him.
Look Sean we have this amazing fantasy role for you, you are one of the main characters and a noble man who makes one critical mistake.... "I die don't I?" ....No no no of course n......yes....
Boromir is without a doubt, one of the greatest warriors ever. Aragorn isn't even like Boromir. Boromir is a proper warrior (shield and armor and actually knows all the sword fighting moves), Aragorn just goes to cut them up, he isn't in control very often. Aragorn decapitating Lurtz was quite a lucky swing. Don't get me wrong, but I love Aragorn. Just Boromir is better. A true legendary warriors, dies fighting two hobbits and takes 3 arrows to take him down :)
@EverythingsUpload Normally I'd agree, but Aragorn's fighting style is drastically different, which is why it would appear to not really be warrior like. He was trained by the elves, which is an entire different level of caliber in skill.
@Grievous1997 yes that's true. He's been raised in Rivendell, home to the elves. I'm just saying that Boromir is like a try warrior, has proper armor and proper fighting moves. Him being raised by elves, does impact his diffeence
@EverythingsUpload Good point. Boromir does compare to real historical warriors. And, the reasoning behind Aragorn's lack of armor is probably because he's more of a ranger then a warrior. Ranger's aren't exactly the "tank" a warrior is.
Apparently I read that this scene had some crazy "throw ins" that involved Aragon/Viggo Mortenson. The headbutt at 6:15 was real because the actor underneath the heavy makeup couldn't judge distance and the knife throw at 6:20 was real too because the guy accidentally threw it at Viggo Mortensen (instead of making it miss wildly) and Viggo actually managed to deflect it with his sword.
Cool, the greatest death scene in cinema history. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've either cried or been close to tears watching a movie & Boromir reclaiming his honour is just fucken awesome. Secondly, to be honest the extended edition version of this scene is so much better. Lurtz licking the knife after ripping it out of his leg is one of the more brutal things I've seen in a movie after Lurtz shoving the sword further through his guts to show Aragorn his utter contempt for him
3:45 was the first time I had ever cried in a movie. It was so sad... he was just trying to redeem himself for something that wasn't his fault. He's really the best character in the trilogy to me. He is loyal to his city, he tries to be in the best interest to both his brother and his father. I'm glad that Pipin remembered Boromir for what he did and became his legacy in a way.
@FallenTemplar1405 He was a true Patriot and a real hero while he lived, he died passing from nature to eternity (to quote Shakespeare). In life he lived noble, in death forever so.
First time I saw Boromir, I hated him. Thought he was a arrogant prick. But as soon as I read the books and saw the extended version of the film, Boromir gained my love and sympathy. He was a valiant man of Gondor.
Aragorn is probably the strongest warrior ever portrayed. There is only one I can think of who could be better but he hasn't been portrayed in film yet and that is Link, and that is if they ever made a Legend of Zelda movie if it would be in Ocarina of Time/Twilight Princess form, none of that gay more for kids Windwaker crap.
@berserker276 I haven't read the book either but my friend has... he says the term Orcs actually refers to the species on Arda (planet) that were corrupted by Morgoth (first Dark Lord)... Balrogs are also considered orcs... According to him the Uruh kai were orcs that were first elves that ended up turning because of Morgoth but still retaining their humanoid shape...
@Sephiroth32vergil Nope. Arda is our earth, just several millenia ago. Orcs were originally Elves corrupted by Morgoth. Belryg aren't anywhere close to Orcs, they are Maiar just like Sauron and Gandalf are. Uruks (including Uruk-hai) is one particular breed of Orcs that was bred solely for battle. They are stronger, larger and can endure sunlight. The exact details (whether they were made by crossbreeding Orcs and Men or were bred from Orcs with magic) is unsure, Tolkien claimed both were true.
@kboner11 Well technically it is beleived that ORcs themselves are descended from Elves whose minds and bodies were "distorted and corrupted". So Uruk Hai would be Orcs made from elves mixed with Humans. But Tolkien only very vaguely hinted at this and there are some inconsistencies so there is no 100% right answer. Believe it or not, you can find all this on Wikipedia.
Best death scene in film history, in my opinion. There are a lot of characters in these movies that I felt were miscast, but Sean Bean is absolutely spot on as Boromir!
boromirs a boss, his death was so sad :( , he kamakazi'ed to save merry and pippen, and lurtzs if a bloody tank, arm chopped off, doestn even flinch and pulls sword deeper in, hez the first and strongest uruk born, aragorn's only struggle was with this guy
@rinoman11 and apparently he had some trouble against a troll at the final battle at the black gate too, so what do you know kind of a minor incosistency :P
Oh no! Boromir! And speaking about that, look at boromir's jacket before the third Arrow hits him. there is ALREADY A HOLE AND BLOOD THERE. found that out on my own wow.
dude those arrows were goblin arrows and lurtz is a cool but cheap hes such a wimp so hes canceled out on coolness but death awsome so a arm missing pulling a sword further into his stomach is weird
@MrQueenie Absolutely. Hes my favourite character in LOTR. Its not only his badassery but his human weakness and struggle to overcome it that make him one of the most relatable characters in the trilogy.
The part that makes me sad and tear up, is when he blows the horn 3 times, and yells, "RUN RUN RUN!" Since there are too many orcs coming and he is the only one there.
is there anybody who doesnt think legolas is the fucking coolest guy ever?

Best death scene in film history, in my opinion. There are a lot of characters in these movies that I felt were miscast, but Sean Bean is absolutely spot on as Boromir!

boromirs a boss, his death was so sad :( , he kamakazi'ed to save merry and pippen, and lurtzs if a bloody tank, arm chopped off, doestn even flinch and pulls sword deeper in, hez the first and strongest uruk born, aragorn's only struggle was with this guy
rinoman11 6 months ago
@rinoman11 and apparently he had some trouble against a troll at the final battle at the black gate too, so what do you know kind of a minor incosistency :P

Oh no! Boromir! And speaking about that, look at boromir's jacket before the third Arrow hits him. there is ALREADY A HOLE AND BLOOD THERE. found that out on my own wow.
FalconsPOWN2 6 months ago
dude those arrows were goblin arrows and lurtz is a cool but cheap hes such a wimp so hes canceled out on coolness but death awsome so a arm missing pulling a sword further into his stomach is weird
abcdefg123456333 6 months ago
Boromir's sudden appearance was so cool. His death was perhaps the most emotional one in the trilogy.
Lamporre 6 months ago 3
This is why Boromir is the most badass Lotr character, two arrows in the chest and still manages to kill several Uruk Hai while on his knees
MrQueenie 6 months ago 3
@MrQueenie Absolutely. Hes my favourite character in LOTR. Its not only his badassery but his human weakness and struggle to overcome it that make him one of the most relatable characters in the trilogy.

@tobs001 My thoughts exactly.
hobbitonman 6 months ago
The part that makes me sad and tear up, is when he blows the horn 3 times, and yells, "RUN RUN RUN!" Since there are too many orcs coming and he is the only one there.
silentxXxstride666 6 months ago
Those must be strong arrows, Faramir got shot by 4 arrows in the third movie and didn't die.
Leonniket 6 months ago
@Leonniket Or a very strong bow, I mean look at the size of lurtz's bow compared to legolas'!
