wonderful dancer- her hands and arms- down to her fingers- play a very intricate role in portraying the elegance of this dance. And the ending was excellent.
She has technique to spare, but in terms of depth...
The title, which was a famous prose from the Ming Dynasty, praised the lotus's purity despite its muddy roots. It analogized that quality to the nobleness of remaining principled even in adversity.
How this dance portrays and relates to its namesake is anyone's guess.
Well, Chinese dance has a tendency to be "flirtatious" because of its femininess. However, the way that she portrayed the lotus in this dance is not flirty, arrogant, cold, passionate... ect. I think the feeling she tries to go for is "classy" and "elegant", something you'd expect from a lady of good upbringing. And the ode to lotus isn't exactly just about a flower, it's more an analogy about women who are less well off, yet still able to maintain their integrity.
So beautiful!
