However, the sad truth is a lot of people who join the military are not ready for the hardships that come with it. You have to be absolutely ready for being away from home for months at a time. Some people can handle it, other people can't. There are chaplains and programs which help veterans and their families get through hardships, but people just don't use them all the time.

The real repercussions of these "wars" on soldiers will take decades to take their toll. It happened with Vietnam vets who so many today are suffering substance abuse, homelessness, and mental instability. Killing people indiscriminately will do that to a person. Those that participated in torture and abuse will bring their experience home with them too. That kind of rage can't remain hidden forever.

The worst thing is that the armed forces are meeting recruitment goals due to "economic conscription." Sure, the draft is gone on paper, but due to high unemployment, many people are forced to join the armed forces or reenlist, as they know there is very little in terms of jobs.

They are forced to join due to the state of the economy. That is not joining voluntarily. I am sure that being forced into a war one may not agree with can easily result in suicide.

I deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. And i have had friends who have struggled with and have commited suicide. we are a force spread thin.
