Don't want to bash anything or anyone, but i really can't notice sound differences between this and my custom 22 with stock pups, the stock pups are really good. Really nice playing btw! props
Hey Greg, I have seen a few of your vids and just wanted to say I like the way you play. A very refreshing way of stitching pretty standard licks and riffs together along with the way you change pickups. Cool stuff.
Greg, first of all, thanks for doing all these demonstrations of so many guitars. I just bought one of these PRS SE Custom's. My guitar was also a used one. It is a gray/black tiger striped one that has G and B zebra type pickups. I may try some of those Duncan alnico 2's like you have. Also, I am buying a Squire Classic Vibe Tele (pine body) to go along with my 1989 American Standard Strat. That is a "cheap" guitar I have heard good things about.
I've got one of these guitars in the tobacco burst finish with aluminium wrap over bridge. I can say that I am normally very fussy when it comes to guitars but this one is an excellent guitar. I've had USA Gibsons and this beauty is built much better. This Korean made beauty is built very well, it's very light and it resonates perfectly. The neck and body on mine resonate together in perfect 5ths which is pretty rare for a factory made instrument.
This is why I love alnico II pickups. It's the midrange bite. Alnico V's don't have it. My Dean Evo gets that tone with Duncan Seth Lovers. I bet that SE sounds closer to a real Les Paul than that US-made PRS Singlecut. The Alnico Pros are a bit more-scooped in the mids than the Seth Lovers (I assume, to make it like a '59, but smoother). I get so-many comments about my guitar-tone, and I've only got $500 into mine. Well, the guitar at least. The amp is a rebuilt, US-made Fender Hot Rod Dlx.
I'm much-better at this stuff than say, a Robben Ford-type jazz-fusion progression. Funky-blues is my forte, basically because I don't have to think about it. I can just play, and whatever happens happens (and then someone asks me to play it again and I can't - It's just improvising). I always play well when I'm on autopilot, but throw some weird chord-progression at me that I don't know, and I derail (The same thing happens if there's a 'weak-link' in the band because I start thinking).
Just to let you know, the SE's did not come with US-made Duncans (I think they're 'Duncan-designed'). Someone must have upgraded, which is smart with these guitars. I did the same with my Korean-made Dean Evo SS. I saw it in a store and noticed how good it looked, and I also saw that the price was marked down (only $300). I played it and found it had as much or more sustain than any other guitar in the store, so I bought it and quickly-swapped the ugly zebra p/u's for Seth Lovers. Sounds awesome
It's just a simple blues-progression in the key of A. Just your basic I, IV, V ("A" being the "I", "D" being the IV, and "E" being the "IV". You could use A Major, or you can blues it up with a G7. The backing track doesn't even have actual chords, I don't think (I can't hear any), but if you wanted to play chords, then use 'A', 'D', and 'E' like I said. The comping guitar on the backing-track is just playing a riff rather than actual chords, so it's up to you.
NIce. Noticed you started channeling Clapton around 1:17. I just got this in Natural and hope I can get a good sound. May throw in a Fillmore pup in mine.
hi, nice demos (altough I prefer your videos where you actually play with a band ;).. I would like yo ask you, if you played the new SE models (SE Korina or SE Custom 25 anniversary) and what do you say how they sound (to you).. thanks :)
Nice tone, great playing... i got the same guitar, but in Blue matteo. how come you don't have zebra pickups? Mine goes sometimes a little out of tune, gotta put some locking tuners
i was gonna buy this, but got to the store to try it out, and was sadly disappointed. I like guitars with a natural finish neck back, like fender. The quality was not what i expected, they should price this more in the 300 dollar range.
@Jdawg241983 just cause the guitar doesn't feel right for you doesn't mean it's a bad guitar, i personally don't like Gibson guitars but they are still great guitars and sound amazing, they're are just too heavy and don't feel good in my hands, i am a PRS man myself and love the way their guitars feel from the moment i picked one up for the first time
hahaha love it !!!

Something about this reminds me of Jeff Beck's playing on "Blow By Blow". Maybe I'm crazy. Haha, someone please tell me I'm not...

@chrisd9416 I immediately thought of Jeff Beck and it does sound like wired/blow by blow era especially.

Almost Les-Paul with some Strat flavor.
A true in-between guitar.
