This is by far, the best version of The Who's brilliant song. I heard the PJ version, it's very good but .... there's so many high notes that Eddie Vedder can't sing. He got a shit comin' by his ass, trying to get that notes !! And the guitar player of PJ, barely can play teir PJ songs. About the guitar, it's an Epiphone Coronet, hot rodded with a S. Duncan (neck), & a Di Marzio (bridge). It's a Racer X guitar.

I'll give you the instrumental side of Mr.Big(to me no one compares to Paul,Billy,and Pat)but no artist sings The Who better than Eddie Vedder.Eric just doesn't have the voice for any Who song and the 1st backup vocal part of the song sounds like a country version.I'll take PJ any day.Seen PJ play this live and it was great.I do agree partly w/ you the PJ versions I listened to on here were not the greatest.Haven't listened to them all but when I find one I think compares I'll let you know.
