@MikeAlti2001 This was before the discovery of the wreck in 1985. Many of the survivors testified that the ship sank intact. Only some said it broke in half. The official inquiries all concluded the ship sank intact. It wasnt until 1985 that they learned the truth.
I remember when this came out. It was before they even knew where she was. A little far fetched to assume she would have been in this good of condition. She can even hold a helicopter! Makes for good sci fi though...
@emilybieberfan4 regarding ur second question, this movie was filmed before anyone had gone down to actually discover the wreckage, they thought that titanic was still intact.
Its all captain james fault. if he had listened to the warnings of an ic eburge ahead, 1800 people would have made it safely to new york and titanic would be the best piece of 20th century history. but noooooooooo he followed his guts instead.
Oh, of course, it's not broken; the masts and chimnies are all in their place. It just looks slightly rusty but nothing serious. The ship is not damage at all xDD
@koen577 yes but most of the ships officers all said that the ship stayed in tacked when it sank. they would have believed the officers over the passengers.
She must have been an awe inspiring sight for those who first boarded her. Although we only have black and white photos of her; you know she must have appeared as a floating palace. That grand ship will forever excite the imaginations of generations to come.
i would like to see the titanic one time in my life, but it doesn't work cause they can't do it in real life :( it were so great when they can raise the titanic in real. this is my biggest wish.
@tracyamber36 no but trust me i wish because number one its wayyyyy more rusty and number two it broke in half when the stern was rising up when it was sinking
(with the exception of splitting) this is representative of its condition if it was recovered in the 1920's.Dr Ballard told me personally that the wooden decks took a couple of decades to be eated away.
Being a history nut I know what the ship really looked/looks like in the 70's but the ship wasnt discovered yet so I can let that go. That being said...the effects, acting and most of all - the SCORE for this film are amazing and still stand up to time!!!
The military found Titanic Ballard just picked up the credit because of state secret issues involving what the Navy was doing down there to begin with. Bismarck even has a giant underground cable laying across it's bow from what I've heard.
@LYinKansas Really? Wow. You have knowledge many would no doubt like for you to share. Enlighten us regarding "state secret issues". And, how is it that any transoceanic submarine cables were laid across the bow of the Bismarck? Did the crew of the CS Long Lines do that? Do you know what a cable ship is?
I know this is a ridiculous complaint given the outrageous IMPOSSIBILITY of such a scheme, but you'd think that they might have have assumed that the ship wouldn't be in such pristine condition. Even without guessing about the "rusticles" or the fact that it was in 2 pieces, surely they wouldn't expect that only 1 smokestack would be gone or that both masts would be upright. Did they simply not consider that there might be SOME damage to it just from hitting the sea bottom?
I Love this film, watched it probably around 50 times, maybe more, one of my faves as a kid.
Of course, back then, we didn't know she'd broken in 2.
It wasn't until 85 that she was found and I remember being 7 years old at the time, watching it on the news and being in awe. I've been obsessed ever since!
BTW, the wreck of the sister ship Britannic is only in 400 feet of water, so can be explored with deep sea scuba gear, with permission. How cool is that!
@TitanicMemory51 yea...i didnt mean anything, just curious about that ony....:) but they didnt know that titanic broke into half before that? the survivor should told, right?
I met Dr. Robert Ballard. The man who discovered Titanic and talked to him for about 10 minutes. He must of thought I was some crazed fan, but what he told me is that his associates are doing everything to make sure nothing is brought up, and publicly puts down anyone who does. They tried pulling up a piece of the hull and it fell apart. He said by 2012 it will be so brittle that they won't be able to land anything on it for filming. This movie was made before they realized it was in two.
@freespeachrulez Wow. Bob Ballard is one of my personal hero's. Whats he like to talk to? He seems to be a really easy going man. I could imagine there wouldn't be any pretence whatsoever about him....I am not sure if I agree with him about bringing things up. Perhaps leave the integrity of the Titanic herself untouched but things like lights, tupperware etc I see no reason why that could not be surfaced....
@philster611 Well as one can imagine he gets asked about Titanic allot, but that is only a small portion of his passion. He gave a speech here in my town about these underwater volcano stacks he discovered so it was off topic. Very kind man tho and has a way of explaining things well. What he is more concerned about is salvage operations destroying Titanic. Kind of interesting story, the book of his I had him sign ended up underwater and ruined a few years ago while moving it out of storage.
the Titanic should never be raised cuz she is a grave 2 the 1500 people who went down with her and the t video is inacterate cuz the titanic when it sank she broke in half so if they where 2 raise it it would come up in 2 halfs but i dought they will the titanic has been down there for near 100 years

@TheSky96ish durp durp retard do you really think that they would raise the real titanic? it would just crumble up into smaller peices on the first attempt.
I can't help but to sometimes get shivers at this scene. Awesome score by John Barry, and even though I didn't care too much for the plot, I always loved this scene growing up, still do today.

Shame that bitch reality kicks in and we can't. Next year the Titanic is going to be a whooping 100, and it's skeletal remains, according to scientists, is disintergrating quickly. :(
Its not just about not being able to get the titanic out, with all the technology 'n' shit today it would be easy. But no one would know who to give it to- the family of its owner, compensation to the ship or to a museum. Also, it would be a bit disrespectful to just lift up the ship when all the dead have been at rest there for 70 years.

I really love that raising scene and this version of Titanic in general, though I think the rest of the story could've been better and more true to the book.
I think the scene at 6:10 would've had much greater impact if they had the missing prologue about the Titanic going down so we could see what the staircase looked like in it's former glory, then later see it after nearly 70 years at the bottom of the atlantic.
@SpokaneGirl85 They didn't lie, they honestly thought the ship sank in one piece. Remember the lights went out before the Titanic broke up so no one could see clearly what was happening, so it was assumed it sank mostly intact. Though a few survivors did say Titanic broke up the majority said it sank in one piece and that version of the story won out and was accepted until 1985 when the wreck was discovered.
the titanic split in half and the decks colapsed in on each other.
they can't raise the titanic because it would deteriate faster because it has been in the water so long and the hull is frail due to water pressure and iron eating bacteria.
this ship shpuld be left alone to rot now.but it will never be forgotten. its a memorial to those who died that day.
Regardless of whether or not in 1980 they knew the true condition if the wreck, wouldn't you assume all of the wood decking would be rotted away and there would be no way to walk on that ship? Idk.
Every1 makes a good point as to why this could never happen. But remember at the time the book and movie were made no1 new where she was or what she looked like unfilled she was actually discovered
reasons how this would never happen 0:01 part 2 of comment
continuing at 6 i did`nt get to finish it i hade 6 characters left
6. there would be shoes and clothes from boddies
7. the 2nd funnel didnt blow up FUN FACT I LEARND IN A TITANIC BOOK CALLED (882 1/2 AWNSERS TO TITANIC)
did you know the fourth funnel was a fake??? well the builder of titanic (lord piere) thought a forth funnel for the sister ships would make it look grander
While this movie was a pathetic adaptation of the novel(VERY GOOD READ) this scene of the ship's raising, along with John Barry's music, was nothing short of breath taking. At least it looked that way on the big screen back in 1980. Its a pity they producers screwed this up, I thought the casting was excellent.
It may be outdated, but the book still is a good read.
It\s simple really, they needs robots ( which we allready have ) to place as many airbags as possible INTO the Titanic, as many rooms as possible, than inflate them with air, and up she goes automatically.
In 1980 no one knew that the ship was split in two as that was covered up by the Boards of Inquiry in 1912. Even if the ship remained intact, raising it would be IMPOSSIBLE as author Clive Cussler stated in 1986, that the technology that he wrote of in the novel and was seen in this film was mostly theoretical and no one has $15 billion or more to try and develop it.
I'm finding it absolutely hillarious at some of the comments about this clip. Here are the FACTS. This was a FICTIONAL film released in 1980 and was based on a novel by Clive Cussler so was made BEFORE The Titanic was discovered which was 5 years later in 1985. It was assumed before then that she sank intact which of course as we all know now didn't happen.
Still, at the time it was a fun film to watch and I loved it as a kid!
A few thoughts crossed my mind. "THAR SHE BLOWS" or "U BOAT OFF THE PORT QUARTER!!" Followed by "Hey, great, the Titanic is back. What next? The return Trip?"
@thetitanic604 what the actual fuck!?! :L i said the fucking smoke stack is gone not that there is a fucking whole in the ship! wow , how about looking at what i wrote first before u call me a retard.
this is SO stupid i get they knew she didnt break in 2 but they shoul've known THAT AT LEST THE funnels and shit fell off plus it should;ve sank again cause of hte hold
so many attempts to raise the titanic but all failed, today if they tried to raise it titanic would shatter into billions of pieces, so sad that the titanic will disappear in 100 years, maybe less
Considering the survivors' accounts were rather inconsistent, and even early movies showed the ship going down intact, this was Hollywood's best guess as to what the ship might have looked like 68 years later. Keep in mind, the ship is 2 1/2 miles down and very few had any idea what would survive at those depths.
now i know why even the survivors considered this movie an insult to those who died and those who survived also the ship it self.... its shit this movie is utter shit
Guys this movie was made before the titanic was discovered. At the time it wasn't clear if it had split in two due to different survivor stories and besides i agree with the others its just something that someone made up to imagine what it be like to actually see the ship break the surface in all its former glory because its not gonna happen in real life.
this is not real Titanic

Why would Titanic survivors lie about it not splitting into two?
SpokaneGirl85 5 months ago
@SpokaneGirl85 They didn't lie, they honestly thought the ship sank in one piece. Remember the lights went out before the Titanic broke up so no one could see clearly what was happening, so it was assumed it sank mostly intact. Though a few survivors did say Titanic broke up the majority said it sank in one piece and that version of the story won out and was accepted until 1985 when the wreck was discovered.

Titanic may never be raised in reality, but raised in our souls. It will forever stay in one another's mind. This trajedy will never be forgotten.
mimo7772512 5 months ago
the titanic split in half and the decks colapsed in on each other.
they can't raise the titanic because it would deteriate faster because it has been in the water so long and the hull is frail due to water pressure and iron eating bacteria.
this ship shpuld be left alone to rot now.but it will never be forgotten. its a memorial to those who died that day.

Regardless of whether or not in 1980 they knew the true condition if the wreck, wouldn't you assume all of the wood decking would be rotted away and there would be no way to walk on that ship? Idk.

Man i would love to adventure the titanic :( if they could really bring it out of sea which i doubt will ever happen but itd be great..
MrShinalight 6 months ago
Every1 makes a good point as to why this could never happen. But remember at the time the book and movie were made no1 new where she was or what she looked like unfilled she was actually discovered
mysticknight221 6 months ago 11
@mysticknight221 I dont get it. Why would the people in 1980 assume that the smokestacks were still there and intact? Fucking idiots.

reasons how this would never happen 0:01 part 2 of comment
continuing at 6 i did`nt get to finish it i hade 6 characters left
6. there would be shoes and clothes from boddies
7. the 2nd funnel didnt blow up FUN FACT I LEARND IN A TITANIC BOOK CALLED (882 1/2 AWNSERS TO TITANIC)
did you know the fourth funnel was a fake??? well the builder of titanic (lord piere) thought a forth funnel for the sister ships would make it look grander
2cs92bsg 7 months ago
reasons how this would never happen 0:01 part 1 of comment
1. the titanic never sank in one peice
2. the titanics hull is 60 feet in the mud
3. the ship would sink again because the ice berg made the rivets give way betwen the first six compartment which is to many flodded for the ship
4.IF this did happen the mast (the rope that holds up the funnels) would not be there also the funnels
5. the weight of the water is to hevy for this to happen
6. there would be shoes and clothes

It may be outdated, but the book still is a good read.
airdriver 8 months ago
It\s simple really, they needs robots ( which we allready have ) to place as many airbags as possible INTO the Titanic, as many rooms as possible, than inflate them with air, and up she goes automatically.

In 1980 no one knew that the ship was split in two as that was covered up by the Boards of Inquiry in 1912. Even if the ship remained intact, raising it would be IMPOSSIBLE as author Clive Cussler stated in 1986, that the technology that he wrote of in the novel and was seen in this film was mostly theoretical and no one has $15 billion or more to try and develop it.

Why is all 4 funnles there? Why is it in one pease how is it possible to raise the titanic? Well as long as micky mouse can talk they can do this!
181Cade 9 months ago

A ship as big s the Titanic could never be rasied from two miles down no matter how intact.

Considering the survivors' accounts were rather inconsistent, and even early movies showed the ship going down intact, this was Hollywood's best guess as to what the ship might have looked like 68 years later. Keep in mind, the ship is 2 1/2 miles down and very few had any idea what would survive at those depths.
erikdraven1731 10 months ago
now i know why even the survivors considered this movie an insult to those who died and those who survived also the ship it self.... its shit this movie is utter shit
jackthayer 10 months ago
Guys this movie was made before the titanic was discovered. At the time it wasn't clear if it had split in two due to different survivor stories and besides i agree with the others its just something that someone made up to imagine what it be like to actually see the ship break the surface in all its former glory because its not gonna happen in real life.
