About the flash popping up, I don't think a firmware update would make it stay closed, the flash seems to be totally mechanical, and works with the zoom. When the zoom opens, the flash opens. (I can't say for sure, I just bought this camera off the internet and I'm waiting to receive it by mail)

I've seen a few reviews complaining about the pop-up flash, and I don't know if people realized this, but you CAN push down the flash with your finger, which disables the flash, even if flash is on on the camera.

Some are saying this can zoom while recording video. It can but not the optical zoom, only digital zoom. You can set the optical zoom before recording video but then that's where it's locked during shooting. You can't pan back from there and you will lose focus during digital zoom.

Nice review Dave! can someone tell me how to unlock the optical zoom while recording video? Some says its possible & some says "no". Even the people at Jessops are not quite sure about it. Thats the only reason putting me off to buy the camera...i love everything else about it. How to do the firmware update to fix it? Or shall I wait for another version?

@dwatcher5 Search for CHDK on google, it is fimrware you load onto your SD card that is read by your camera. It has a lot of subtle features and not-so-subtle eatures like optical zoom and AF while recording video.

This review has clinched it for me, the HD video is phenomenal. I work at Jessops and can therefore get the SX200 for £180 but this video has seriously put me off buying the 1000D for over twice the price (and size!)
