It's crazy that this song was a B-side! This band has to have had the best B-sides ever. I can't think of a band that compares with the quality of the songs that didn't even make it on a record. They were on such a roll!
This video shows how awesome this band are and were. A song this good was left as an afterthought to the album material. Most bands will never write a song this good in their career
the pumpkins at their best...it just shows u how diverse they where...they where all over the place musically when they wanted to be and true fans get hidden gems like this...
Yes! Set the Ray to Jerry is one of the best Pumpkins songs ever, in my opinion. Gotta wonder why it never made it to an album. Cherry is also quite good.
beautiful beautiful, in between here and there, like a gap in time and space slashed by indescribable yearning, missing something i had never met...so real... so unknown...so...
the pumpkins have become a band that writes great soft songs...what happened to the i am ones and the siva, and zeroes? but this is a good song...wish they had good heavier stuff too
I share your disappointment with Zeitgeist. However if you listen to the outtakes and bonus tracks and continuation ep(American Gothic) you will see that there are some amazing songs there.
What era did they write this song in do you know? I'd say around the adore days when they didn't have Jimmy but then again they have songs with electronic drums like this written when they had him so I don't know.
I dont think zeotgiest was that bad but its a shame that stellar wasn't on the original cd i love the track U.s.a really trippy, but this song is fucking good!
as a former huge smashing pumpkins FAN, gish, Siamese, mellon collie, pisces, aeroplane box set, and adore were all GREAT albums with great melodies. Machina kind of signaled the trend downward and zeitgeist, I honestly cannot say is even remotely a good album at all...although I thought the zwan album was ok...yeah i know people are going to bash me for this but hey it's just my honest opinion
I actually agree with you. I still listen to those albums regularly... yet I can't seem to listen to zeitgeist much if at all. not a bad album- just not the smashing pumpkins I fell in love with. I still support them full heartedly. I'll be a fan 'til the end. Billy is amazing. there are some songs on machina/machina ii that are good, but most the time I can't listen to the albums all the way through, have to skip a couple songs here and there :x
@dalecampbl5 I loved Machina. The production is horse piss, but the songs are beautiful (wound, age of innosense, everlasting gaze, etc.). I became a fan during the Siamese Dream era, but truly fell in love with them after Machina (started buying all their previous albums after that one).
people.. please understand.. smashing pumpkins, billy is an evolved person a million years beyond so many people spiritually and intellectually, it shows in his music... and shame and tear.. genius songs.. please understand, billys heart is just so advanced... a true remarkable memory and love of mine... miss you billy, no im not gay for you others... i just understand the feelings
ya shame was ok but regardless this song is awesome and I never get tired of it. I love the piano and for some reason it reminds or thinks it should be on machina
I gotta agree with Somarose, I really didn't like Shame very much at all and it was partly the reason I ignored the last few songs on the album at first. Doing away with Blank Page might've been a mistake because it's a great song to close out the whole CD. It's entirely possible that they wrote Waiting just after Adore, which would explain why the song never made it anywhere. But I'm not Pumpkins historian so I wouldn't know. If anyone out there has the answer I'm very interested.
Beautiful song, one of my favorites for a long time. But it's not a b-side (that would require it accompanying an a-side single).

there is also an early song with the same title, they recorded at an acoustic session.
although billy say 'this is called "a trip out to bountyfoot"' or something at the beginning, the mp3 is clearly called 'Waiting'.
Anyways,both songs are awesome :)
U2rock55 2 years ago 2
The early song you're talking about is called "Mother." At the beginning he introduces it as "A Trip Unto Bountiful."
It was about a decade before this and is not the same song.

hey, I thought Shame was fine. I know a lot of people disagree with me, but I think it's fine.
Blank Page, on the other hand, felt somewhat tedious, no? so yes, Waiting is an easy replacement to at least one song from Adore.
mrdrstandrew 3 years ago

It is an outtake from Adore. And shame rocks! Especially the rock am version, it's totally different. Big guitar parts and all.
In my opinion, and obviously Corgans too, Waiting doesnt fit with the rest of what Adore is, Moody and dark. Waiting is kind of bright sounding.
sivadrake 3 years ago
@f1uckingretard It's an Adore B-Side, so it could've appeared on the Adore album.

I know; see info.
f1uckingretard 1 year ago
@f1uckingretard The info says "Personally I think it would've fit nicely into Adore, but maybe it was after that era."
I'm stating as a fact that it was a B-Side from Adore. The info seemed a little uncertain, so I was confirming it.
