@video257 The composer was a writer too,and his admiration for Mussolini ,who invited him personally in Italy, and Hitler was mentioned in his articles,books,memoires.He even suffered political persecution from early communist regime for his political pro-German views.He also wrote Romanian Tangos under pseudonim Claude Romano. SOOO! the Gypsies should stop stealing folklore and music from other nations to avoid embarassing situations!

@video257 The name of the song is 'Ionel,Ionelule" by George Sbarcea,a Romanian composer (1914-2005) musicolog and writer.This song had its premiere in 7 jan.1937 in Alhambra Music-hall theatre Bucharest.The first part of jelem jelem is IDENTICAL with this song (the refrain of jelem jelem is form another song)Ionel,ionelule was a hit in Romania,has dozens of versions and it's very well known and was pre-ww2 recorded.

And to translate for our other friends, this song is very very old and doesn't have any connection with any romanian compositor. In fact it has gypsy russian origins.

After the WW2 holocaust the lyrics were changed with the actual ones in order to exprim the gypsy sufferance and now this is the gypsy anthem.

The translation is def. a bit off, it might be some of the same words yes - but he's also singing about meeting up with some gypsies, getting drunk with them, and seeing a beautiful girl, with black hair and eyes, and a red head scarf. He does talk about traveling roads, and the he went, went (djelem), but NOTHING about murder, people dying.
