  • i imagine i should just get really pissed off when i run. im talking listen to some metal, and think of some really angry subjects then go. i ran a 11.24 last year doing that so i'm going to try being calm instead and see where that takes me. :P

  • @ThePikpikcarrot

Yeah, I hear that a lot of people get that extra boost of energy and adrenaline from anger when running, which makes them run their fastest. That doesn't work for me. I can't train by myself. I try but it just doesn't work. I need someone right there next to me, racing me, to run my fastest, or else I just lack that extra energy and power and I get frusterated.

  • first meet tommorow and I run like lower 13's : / Let's goooo!

  • Why 60-70M top speed?? I hit my top speed at like 15m, and hold it until 100m!! lol It doesn't take 60m to be at your top speed!!

  • @SupraKid98 thats because its your drive phase your head is down and your resisting against the wind when your at 60 to 70 thats when your straight up and at top speed

  • @SuperMhouston My drive phase is short, I straighten all the way up in like 20m, and at top speed!! lol What you are saying does make sense though!!

  • @SupraKid98 it may be in a sense that your a lil slow off the start if your straight up in that first 20 meters then it means u popped straight up try to stay at a good angle even if u have to dip your head down a bit

  • @SuperMhouston Alright, I will try that next time I hit the track!! Thanks for the tips!! Hopefully I can see an improvement in my acceleration. So I should still be leaning forwards at the 20m mark? then try to straighten up my body fully around 60-70m? I will give it a shot... what do I have to lose!! haha

  • @SupraKid98 yes let me know how that goes it should really help

  • im 15, I DO run 100m in 11.05 seconds.

  • @JonathansFilmsInc im 15 and i fucked ur mom in 11.04 seconds

  • While you run, quicken the motion of the run, not the power of your run. What i mean is, don't hit the ground with your feet really hard, it tires you out. Keep it firm, but not pounding the ground like an elephant. Focus more on your motion.

Finally, NEVER STEP BACKWARDS WHEN STARTING THE RUN. People step backwards, then forwards, which takes a second. Usain Bolt ran 100m in 10 seconds, so he would be 10m ahead of the line, while you would have gone like 20cm backwards.

  • Lol this guy is wrong in some of his facts: you DONT want to be upright, you want to have a forward lean and on your toes coming out of the blocks, then your lean should slowly come up for about 30 meters, but even then you shouldn't be up right.

  • @thomastiegs the method taught for sprinters is to stay low for the drive phase and gradually run upright as u reach top speed.

  • how do i run in my cycle motion ??

n run with my ball of my feet ??

  • Comment removed

  • ur suppose to run on the ball of ur foot because when u run on ur toes ur breaking but when u run on the ball of the foot u roll onto ur toes moving your momentum forward

  • very true

  • i use cycle motion on long jump :3 it imrpoved my jump by 2 feet T_T

  • When you sprint, are you supposed to have your front part of the foot touching the ground? Or the whole foot like jogging except sped up? I've been on relay team for many years now, but this one guy keeps beating me at my school. I try different ways of starting, leaning toward the finish line, but still he beats my by at most 2 seconds. Any tips anyone?

  • u wanna be on the balls of ur feet. dont wanna be flat footed. get a good pair of spikes if u can afford it, keep good form arms tucked in at 90 degrees all the time and a good technique is to touch ur thumb to ur chin, then back pocket. keeps ur arms at a good 90 angle...so just lift some weights and train stretch out good before races and see how u do

  • Ohh. Thanks a lot man. But what do you mean balls of your feet? Everything else makes sense, and I'll keep it in mind. :)

  • okay you have a heel and ball part of the foot. actually you want to roll off of the heel onto the ball of the foot. HEEL=back of foot & BALL=front of foot right underneath toes. The motion should be so swift that you don't realize you are stepping on your heel first..and yes god form with arms tucked is a must in races under 30 sec.

  • AHHHH! Okay, I might go train later today then. Thx so much!

  • like on your toes. but not to the point where your breaking them..like ur standing on ur tip toes when you run. theres a girl that my coach calls twinkle toes cuz she runs on the balls of her feet so well

  • I think you should be on your toes when you sprint

  • my coach teaches me to get to top speed fast, not by the "50 to 60m mark"

  • true that you should be at full speed after your first 5 or 6 strides welll a good runner at least

  • 5-6 strides?? no way. unless your top speed is slow as crap. you may think ur at top speed bcuz ur legs are moving as fast as possible but your not making the distance. trust me, you wont actually get to top speed until maybe the 30-40m mark.

  • dont mean to sound ignorant but are your heels ever touching the ground??

  • no, your heels should never touch the ground, that will slow you down. you should be landing on the balls of your feet

  • @jspheyphey

actually that is not true. you are correct about the balls of you feet part but if you were to look at the best such as asafa powell running, his hells do barely touch the ground. what they do is they faintly touch, and then quickly explode to his balls of his feet.

  • k i think that he's tryna say just be relax as your running because he doesn't metnion that in order to keep your top speed you can't drop your shoulders

  • Maybe his explanation wasn't as good. He is just trying to say, run relax, and not to tense up the upperbody, e.g. shoulder, neck and face. in the high speed phase which is from 50m up to 80m, your focus on the legs movement should be like a cycling motion. Maybe not using the word accelerate, it should be increasing the legs frequency in the high speed phase. Its simple, but not easy.

  • okaay.. hey so 1st 50 meters right? i should run a lil bit slower than the next 50?

  • No you run 100% from start to finish in any race. You wanna run relaxed and pump your arms. I like to say that if you pump your arms your legs will follow. The faster you pump your arms in a controlled motion you will be ok and do go. its all about your foot speed and turn over. your low heel recovery also.

  • no no no, neevveerr run "slower" in the 100 meters. Blast out of the blocks as fast as you can and secure a place, then just run, and about 30m before the end, get ur ass in gear and go balls out

  • If you can do better, post a video of yourself!

  • Appears! Because the guy does utilize his (or her) butt to the fullest. At the same time, the lean forward, in the dashes, is nearly invisible, but every dasher does lean very slightly forward.

  • Great advice for a new--to--dashes, but his knees are a little too low and he does butt kick a little too much. His knees, instead of driving the body forward, are directing his momentum towards the track surface, but only a little.

His elbows do go back far, but in a descrete fashion -- watch, again, please.

In spite of all of that, over 100 m, I am nearly certain that he would kick my butt.

He is not running fast enough to judge this, but 10.10 guy APPEARS to run flat--footed and part-butt.

  • Agreed!

  • dude its advice not a fucking CNN reporter..

  • calm down dude dont watch it if you comment stupid crap like that people ork hard to make these vids

  • his feet go down and come up wrong, also he needs to swing his arms further back instead of foward .

  • Yeah peapodmaster, i'm sure he has no clue what he's talking about. He's never done this before. Not

  • whats having a relaxed look on your face help you sprint faster?

  • straining your face makes your neck flex, and you bring your shoulders up because its a natural reflex.

  • myloveisyourhate, tyson gay; tense look, usain bolt; relaxed look...u make ur verdict mate..

  • Yeah i think he does overstride a bit. Anyways ithink he means that when sprinting you should always try to go all out even after you hit top speed.

  • when he says always accelerate, he means that ur turnover should b accelerating, even if ur stride length had to decrease

  • he knows better than u ! ASS HOLE !

  • No, you can't ALWAYS be accelerating, that's quite impossible in the 100m.. everyone decelerates near the end. Terminal velocity is reached at ~50-60m, otherwise, you won't do your best.

  • you only stop accelerating if your not putting enough effort into it, oh and our using terminal velocity in the wrong sense by stating that basically your say that the more push forward the more resistance you'll be met with, in other words you are trying to state the top speed you can reach on flat ground

  • he overstrides..

  • crap
