the bass player on the recorded version of this does a 6 string bottle neck solo...whilst on take jason plays over 5 different percussion drums including his kit..its because of them john is were he is..without his band ..history would be different for him..there not crap..some of the best musos aus has to offer..both jason & gavin are in high demand..but iam guessing you havnt heard ''three''.if you had you wouldnt be saying that..

Michael Barker joined trio in 1996 (I belive) earliest single/album Shannon Birchall worked on was Zebra / Sunrise Over Sea in 2003 John disband the original trio, took 6 mos off while wife gave birth 2 Banjo. During this time, he wrote most of Sunrise Over Sea, formed new version of the John Butler Trio - featuring brother-in-law Nicky Bomba on drums (Michael Barker is the trio's touring drummer.Nicky has his own band and virtuoso Shannon Birchall on upright bass - they recorded

Michael Barker did actually not join until the recording of Sunrise, where he added percussion on some tracks combined with Bomba's drums. Before this the drummer for the trio was Jason McGann (1998-2003). Michael Barker also recorded all drums on the Grand National album.
