Not even Sviridov himself would likely say that he compares to Gilels or Richter. How can one make such a statement when Gilels did not actively perform this work? While Sciridov is talented, Gilels and Richter were amongst the greatest pianists in history - Russian or not. Sometime check out Valentina Lisitsa in this work - that is a comparison to comment on. You will see that Sviridov is just talented, but not sensational.
I did not mean that Gilels and/or Richter have played this particular piece, but rather the musical style and quality interpretation of Sviridov as a pianist.
As for Valentina Lisitsa - talented but empty pianist. Huge technique, zero everything else. Aside from her DVDs that her husband produces, I cannot say that she is even well-known. I would say quite objectively, there is not comparison of her with Sviridov. Sviridov is much higher in every regard. But, thank you for your opinion.
I really liked it. Very little known about Sviridov, but his interpretation is on par with those of Gilels and Richter. Thanks for introducing this great pianist to me.
Just today I have listened to some of Sviridov's videos posted here. It blows my mind!!! What a great and generous pianist. Perfect sense of style and nice clear pedaling too. I will look for more of him on his website. Thanks for posting!!!
I have just commented on Sviridov's playing of Chopin's Scherzo. But this one is so much more: I am just loving the way he manages the sound in this Ballade - well-controlled, yet very romantic in every possible way. It is great that you have posted this video. Please, MORE, MORE, MORE...

Marvelous piece - a true musician at the piano. A style that makes a piano speak. Thank you very much.
