  • great video

  • I guess this device looks quite lame now by todays standards and the introduction of the iPad...

  • @davidbrown303 Yes, Who can compete with a high resolution display? That might be the reason why this roll-up display never took off. Nevertheless, you cannot roll up an iPad. So this design has its own unique application.

  • @cplai Very true and good video BTW, many thanks, I love technological nostalgia

  • why has this not hit the market yet?

  • damn he's fine...

  • 2006!!!!! Holy shit its 2009 i never heard that on the market LoL.

  • @Rontu1 Hey guess what? Now it's 2011 XD

  • Shiiiiiiiit. It looks like the thing from earth final conflict. Wow.

  • putos

  • aguante sony

  • what he said? 2007?

i know there is e-ing out there, but i never even see one.

  • One thing that stops me from admiring them...is the CD-I..ARGHHH..it hurts when I say it

  • why? di you think the CD is that bad? The also invented the DVD. But soon it will all be Blue Ray. I saw a video were philips was coming out with a 3D TV now that's interesting!

  • Hi Top, ever though about how CD-i brought us DVD? Think again, do your homework man! :).

  • I am not saying "it should have never been invented". I am just saying that the console was unsuccessFul. Calm down, Philips is a great company.

  • That`s true I think every country has it`s own bad things. BTW the last time we had snow was 4 years ago or so. If I buy something I pay 19%tax! On tobacco 60%! And on Gasoline 80%!!!

  • if your guys still don't know - Israel is the country with the heaviest tax-pressur I've ever know - even though you get NOTHING for it!!!

this is a fucking place with the corrupted political system and fucking dickhead traffic "CUPS "as you all know

    Ahmedinijad Common !! wer'e waiting for U... :-)

  • How much tax do you pay then? And who is "you"? Europeans Americans?

  • why? I don`t like my country! =P Because I pay way to much taxes and there is nothing to do here the weather sucks!

  • Holland exially! where I live =D

  • ...and it was never heard of ever again.

  • just because they changed name. Google "polymer vision" to find them.

  • that guy freaks out when he says touchscreen

  • So, what happened to this product?

  • I saw it in an online shop just a few days ago! You can realy buy it!

Sure: these screens will really be the feature.

  • where the fuck is it?? It's 2008!! 2007 came and went I never saw this wtf?

  • e-Ink technology appeared in some products recently. The prototype shown in the video probably didn't make it, but the technology is real, just in a different form and product.

  • Cool...

  • I think launching with a B/W version is such a bad idea. The market is so beyond B/W now, it's not longer like when they launched the first versions of the palm, ipod or cellphones.

Customers have so many choices of alternative products eg iphone, or smartphones that are comparable to this technology which already come with colour screens.

  • B/W display has its own appeal. Most books and newspapers are still printed in B/W. If this paper-like display stays with this narrow applications, there is still a good market for the product. At least it is a good substitution for paper.

  • I agree.. That's why we never saw these things, they went out of business offering B&W model.

  • This company is still around after they spun off from Philips Electronics. Google "polymer vision" and you will find their website. While on it, google "E-ink" and "electronic paper" too. The technology is still alive and well. There is a market for it.

  • waiting for color version !

  • PHILIPS - lonely at the top!

  • Thanks for sharing this information with us!

  • why does it matter what accent by the way??

  • dutch accent for sure!

  • dutch accent ;)

  • Yup its a dutchman, typically dutch-english accent, and also the name Hans Driessen is a very likely dutch name. Im also dutch...

  • Philips is a dutch company, this guy is definitely a dutchman...

  • No one has that technology, no one.

    HE'S A WITCH!

  • does he weigh as much as a duck?

  • ok dont call it refresh rate then , call it update rate. happy now? can discussion proceed?

  • Plasticmind, there is no refresh rate. It's a static screen created by magnetized particles. It uses no power until a page turn. Also, Theophrastus is incorrect. There is almost no eyestrain using E-Ink technology. Because there's no refresh rate, it's comparable to reading a newspaper.

  • refresh rate seems fine to me^^ maybe there's some jitter b/c of the different video refresh rate which doesn't say anything about its real life appearance.

  • Refresh rate seems terrible.

  • You ghey Brits have the fanciest colors, green-screening, and metrosexual hair. No wonder the whole world is jealous!

  • Brtis? That accent sound Australian/New Zealand.

  • You dumb fuck. This guy is Australian.

  • *sigh*... When will the Americans get a handle on the Aussie accent... (pronounced Auzzie...) This guy is clearly Australian and from a show called "Beyond Tomorrow"... *sigh*

  • It's an Australian show - idiot.

  • I just love how all you retards are so proud of yourselves for knowing this ghey little show or being able to tell ghey brits from ghey aussies. Yay for you! I'm clapping! Really! Yay!

  • retarded american

  • Ouch! Here's where I say retarded (whatever little mongrel tribe you're from)! That really hurt your feelings, didn't it?

  • Your the one who's retarded asshole, research has showned that the most tall people who aren't mongrels come from The Netherlands

  • "research has showned"

    Priceless.

  • Doesn't look very practical. I can't see myself carrying that thing around in order to upload stuff onto it. If it had built-in wifi and web-browsing capabilities it might be worthwhile but otherwise it just seems like an expensive toy to be used between reading stuff on your laptop and reading stuff on proper paper. I also don't like the fact that it appears to be back-lit as back-lighting usually makes for eyestrain.

  • This is suppose to replace paper in the future. Imagine unrolling the same scroll at your breakfast table every morning and the morning news is updated to the minute. For people who are used to newspaper it is better than reading news on a computer display. Another application is to reduce the size of current cellphone into a pen size device, yet provide a large display for other function.

  • Fold? No. But if it can roll tightly enough, it's a moot point.

  • They've been talking about this for quite some time, let's hope it surfaces soon. Also, I wonder whether the screen is foldable?

  • This tech has been around for sometime. I have seen another news article few years ago about using this technology in large banners hanging off store's ceiling for advertisement. It is convenient to update the ad. with a click of a button.

  • greek_paper_roll_2.0
