  • I'll take Boeing's approach and prioritize pilot input over the Airbus approach and computer taking controls over a pilot.

  • Excellent video, does anyone have any idea why they never lifted the landing gear??

  • gran avionnnn

  • ...another 10 months delay for Boeing's nightmare-liner... several companies canceled their orders and are suing Boeing for the delay... no more sales since early this year.... good look with this "platic-bomber"... - Airbus is up and away :-)

  • Non-retracted Landing Gears are part of the Test Flight in order to check the planes ability and engines to climb when the Landing Gear cannot be retracted for some reasons.. A Landing Gear does affect he Airplanes aerodynamics and flight behavior.. That s why its not retracted.. Once this test is done, the Test Pilots will retract it and continue the Test Flight. :-)

  • Why do we design new aircraft? Why do you want to drive a model T Ford if you can have a Focus RS?

  • @FlyOnHigh why does it matter

  • landing gear??

  • They usually don't retrieve it in most first flights (or the begining part of it)

  • @Tejoss it's part of the test I don't remember why exactly.

  • why the landing gears didnt go up ?

  • i thought it was supposed to have 4 engines like a 747?

  • @WILDBOY122 thats the 747-8i or 747-800 its pased its first flight aswell!

  • well that is nice

soon i will flight this babe lol Oo

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about psychology:

    (1) Why do we love flying?

    (2) Why do we always want to design new aeroplanes?

    (3) Why do we think that building new aeroplane is a representation of success?

    (4) What do we prove through designing and building new aeroplane?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

  • 1 --- Because some people like to look at were they live from high above the sky. The sky is peaceful, its brings us that much closer to mother nature.

2 --- Companies do it to look for a new way to make more money.

3--- Because we use today's knowledge to build the technology for tomorrow which, in turn benefits both the present and the future.

4 --- That we can continue to advance and make the world a better place to live, and proving that number 3 (my response) is why we are here today.

  • When Chuck Norris flies on the 787, it's renamed "The Nightmare"

  • Okay, after just making my previous posting, I now see the prior comments regarding the landing gear retraction issue. 'Thank you' to mightyhorsey, tzkelley, and krmtrains for those relevant comments. It makes sense.

  • Humm. In this short video, the pilot never retracted the landing gear. Must have been due to some test flight parameters. The task might have been performed several minutes later into the test flight.

  • Boeing>Airbus

  • I've never seen a more amazing aircraft

  • strobe lights sucks, but I still love the 787

  • The wings are amazing!

  • Can someone please state how this is such a big deal? Does it run on water? Does it fly around the world in a few hours. Does it cure aids or cancer in flight? Or is it just another distraction to real world issues like ever growing government corruption?

  • @FoxifiedNutjob it uses 20% LESS fuel,

That is a BIG deal..20% less pollution.

  • @FoxifiedNutjob This is a big leap forward in aircraft technology that will provide more comfortable travel at a lower cost and with less impact to the environment. If you want to hear about government consiracy theories instead, just watch Fox News 24/7.

  • sylla-WHAT? xD

  • so cool :)

  • very good RC model!

  • i don't understand y its wheels still outside while flyin.....?

  • they dont want to risk the wheels getting stuck in the up position first flight. they usually have a syllabus by which they go through and they go through one system at a time.

  • On the first flight they don't retract the wheels in case of an emergency.

  • @kurtthewurt Actually, they did eventually retract the gear (Boeing has some pictures from later in the flight with the gear up) but you are essentially correct.

  • Thank you.

  • They do initial handling tests with gear down and T/O flap so if there is any problem with hydraulics etc they can return to the field quickly in that configuration

  • Thank you.

  • kissyboy ... chem trail.. hehehehe... and full of mermaids onboard too

  • Great, now pelosi is going to order herself 5 more planes:( Her 747's aren't quite big enough for all her botox:)

  • Hey ! put away those wheels !! There is a small button on the right side of the dashboard that reads "WHEELS UP".

  • To blackwolfsquadron: it's not raising it's landing gear as a safety precaution for the pilots in case anything happens they can quickly land.

  • wat

  • it's a nice plane, economically and environmentally, but it doesn't inspire awe like the 380. The 380 is a fucking beast! not saying one is better than the other, though.

  • Oprah already has one

  • why isnt it rising the landing gear...they are supposed to raise the gear as soon as they get positive rate of climb.

  • I live in Sequim, West of Seattle and saw it fly over at about 5000' a few times during this flight. I can tell you that even with the gear down it was quieter than other smaller aircraft that fly over here everyday. Actually my husband (a commercial pilot) saw the 787 fly over on the 14th!

  • He couldn't have seen the 787 fly over on the 14th. The first ever flight of it was on 15th.

  • Hum...I'm wondering how you know that the first flight was yesterday?

  • Because it was broadcast live in the UK on CNN, Sky News and on the net from Boeing's website. Also, I've been tracking the progress of the first flight via a well known blog whose editor is based at Paine Field and the 787 had been on the ground at Everett until first flight, under going taxi tests etc.

  • DUDE IT DIDNT FLY UNTIL THE 15TH

  • Why does the pilot keep the gear down?

  • It's normal for a test flight, in case they have to make an emergency landing.

  • Do you know if there are going to be more test flight perhaps when the pilot puts the jet through maneuvers such as stalls?

  • Add a screaming kid in coach and some shmuck with H1N1 in it, and its no different than any other jetliner.

  • Boing is so late respect to Airbus

  • How so? Airbus doesn't have a plane of such technology. Rated at 20% cheaper to operate than any other plane of it's passenger capacity, carbon fiber/titanium construction, not to mention the planned passenger configurations/amenities. I don't think there is a comparable plane as of yet.

  • I don,t think they should be allowed to fly over a city on their first flight , thats just stupid , that thing must be deafening anyway .

  • Feircejaguar your sure are you , were in almost 2010 hahaha , ya and 29,000 kids die everyday of preventable illnesses you degenerate, everyday , how do you know people don,t mind are you Jesus,do you read minds , n what do you mean calling people civilians , that's what govt inbreeds call people ,your comment does more damage than mine , keep up the great work !!

PS: your comment made me sick

  • Thanks! Well spoken! People like that make life miserable for the masses!

  • That's a hilarious observation. I think I agree.

    LOL

  • The engines on the 787 are extrememly quiet compared to a regular airplane!

  • @RedMcQueen What company is the manufacture of the engines?

  • Rolls-Royce

  • Are those f-14s escorting the plane?!

  • @Touchwizguy They're camera chase planes.

  • are you fucking retarded?

  • No, they are the Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star

  • greatest airplane ever built. better than the A380!!!!

and we finally get to see it in action. good flights!

  • Apples & Oranges don't ya think...

  • Yes, if one wanted to compare a Boeing plane to the A380, I'd pick one of the 747's, probably the new one, the 747-8, but it really doesn't compare, either. The A380 is out there by itself.

  • since they didnt retract the grear...how far and how high did it fly.?????anyone.

  • Boeing reports that it went to about 13,000 feet.

  • Beautiful. I wonder how you get that job!

  • why doesn't it retract the gears?

  • they never do that on any first flight

  • My guess would be, either to research low speed conditions and how the drag affects stability. My second guess would be not to speed up too much to get the press cams catch it ;-)

  • it's from security reasons.

They will retract it later when all tests have been performed and all lights are green

  • Security reasons? Do you mean safety reasons?

  • @heyjonathan101 Health security. :)

  • oops of corse, safety

sorry for my poor English, I am German ;-)

  • Graceful, graceful bird. Congratulations.

  • Congratulations Boeing!!!
