@MorgiesLuv I totally agree with you. It all depends the species. I should probably have been more specific and mention a parakeet might not need as much human interaction, generally speaking, than say compared to a macaw.
I have to say; You said, a macaw needs at least 4 hours of human interaction a day, and I was just like; What? Only 4 hours? i thought they'd actually need much more, at least if you only own one of them...
It quite surprises me. May I ask what's your source of that information?
@jjkillerbird Unfortunately I do not have the source. I know I should. If I come across where i read that, I will update here. I would think its probably a good minimum. Rachel seems pretty happy with the 3 1/2 hours she gets. 30 minutes before work. In her cage for 8 hour work day. 3+ hours out with family after work. But she often "asks" to go to bed at 8pm or earlier. So in some cases, she decides when she has had enough of us.
It takes a special kind of person to properly care for these beautiful perpetual toddlers, you are one of those people; you lavish Rachel with time and affection -great job Jason : )
Hi Jason, I just got a hahns macaw - your videos are a big help. I'm teaching him to potty train now. Would you consider a Hahns Macaw to have the same requirement of human interaction each day? Or only the larger Macaws? Thanks - Joyce
@jmlawus I don't really know for sure. As I just posted a reply to someone above just a few minutes ago, I don't recall the source of where I heard that 4 hour interaction number from.
@arararauna I always say I'll try. She really does have beautiful plumage. I give her frequent showers and use a bird spray that has preen gland oil and aloa vera gel.
Argh, YouTube cut off the last few seconds of this video. Why is YT being so fussy today? Anyhow, you didn't miss much, and I'm not going to try to upload this video again. Have already uploaded it several times trying to get the post-processing right.
