@abthurd No, hopefully, you don't need to die first ;) When you breathe, you breathe the air first and then you expire. At this time your lungs don't have enough air in to make you float. Of Course, if you try to walk underwater with lungs full of oxygen, i'ts gonna be hard ;)

Look at some other freedive videos, people also sink WITHOUT added weights. once the go a certain depth the volume of air in their lungs no long makes them bouyant and they can just glide down. Same thing here. The wieght he uses is just so he can do it from a shallower depth instead of having to swim down to that spot. Stop being an armchair expert and jump in the sea and try it out.
