  • 525 People like real music,

  • lol I love this version wtf is everyone ranting about?

  • I'm sorry me again Did I mention this is bad I forgot to pause it while I left the bad comment I feel sick now.

  • This is bad. Shame on yous.

  • gay shit

  • alright listen up, everyone has their own opinion on music, i respect that but if you come on A KILLERS VIDEO to say shit about it, get a life.

  • oh my god...this is pure shit

  • i can't blame the killers for making this song, probably hard for them to fathom how gay they actually are

  • I don't know whether to laugh or puke, all these fuckturds have done is turn a great song into an awful pop tune for money, if your gonna cover something try Britney Spears or some other pointless shit like that 'cos your way out of their depth with Joy Division. Horrible cover, just plain horrible

  • These people have no business on this track....EVER

  • Oh God. The original track is one of the most powerfull, sad and melancholic song of everytime. That cover is just useless and too much happy and stupid. I like the killers, the first record was good. But this is just too much offensive.

  • Ian Curtis would hate this, And with fucking good reason

  • I tried. This is a travesty.

  • I love Joy Division!!

thats all these comments should say!!

  • @seymoresaymore Why???

  • This is like shitting on a picasso.

  • I think i got a new top comment, FUCK THIS CRAP

  • Am i the only person who likes this and loves Joy Division?

  • @TheTrixterz me too,I love joy division more than any band in the world but this is great. The original is always going to be the better of the two in my opinion though:-D

  • @TheTrixterz Yeah cause this is such a crappy cover

  • I like the killers, however, they did not do a good job when they covered this song. It feels flat and emontionless compared to the original, like they are just going through the motions because a producer told them they have to record this song. I'm not sure if the killers are dark and moody enough to pull off a tune like this in the first place. For the most part I like them as a band, the cover just did not work for me.

  • I literally just discovered the original by Joy Division 5 mins ago. This is pure shyyt! So pop-like and has no rawness. For as many people who said this was a better version on the original video I thought I was going to see the greatest creation since slice bread. LOL what an epic fail.

  • this is dreadful i'm sorry but it truly is.

  • nope ,i dont like this .not dark enough. My opinion

  • @jonnyenglish1973 my thoughts exactly

  • @Thedjemyzz piss off mate. the original vocals were genius and no one could or would ever want to change that, and this cover lacks the power the original had in the guitar.

  • Ok, all the haters, leave. The originals vocals sound like a dying pig. Call me a "new generation" prick all you want. Its the truth.

  • what's with the uh uh huh's at the beggining?

  • ughh...this cover is not good. I love the darkness of the original. This is too upbeat. I'm all for making a cover your own, but this is not good...

  • I get the feeling there were producers behind this saying, 'If you wanna cover it, fine, but we need to sell records' I like the singers interpretation...he is a cracking front man. I think he 'gets it', the darkness of the song I mean...just a shame it had to pop it up a bit. But listenable

  • I appreciate when anyone wants to cover a band who deserves continued recognition. It's good when a cover has it's own identity. BUT the "hoo hoo hoo hoo-hoo hoo hoo" part insults darkness the song intends. Superficial and disappointing.

  • absolute horse shit....worst cover version

  • Usually I don't rate covers and feel the originals should be left weel alone. As a Joy Division fan I'm shocked to say that I think The Killer did a good job. Brandon hasn't the greatest of voices but they've made it a bit more anthemic and upbeat. Just my opinion.

  • Nope not even close.

  • Though the video is unnecessarily trippy, I do like it. The Killers add a much more upbeat feel to Joy Divisions original

  • shit compared to Joy Division

  • the song killers

  • I think the reason I never liked the Killers is that his singing is constantly flat!! ugh, call me a band nerd but damn, it bugs me.

  • what the fuck!!!

  • @autumn5310 Your boyfriend has good taste in music.

  • @autumn5310

Fuck You.Seriously, FUCK YOU! Your boyfriend is cheating on you.

  • Why so angry? Shut up and enjoy. If it's not for you so what move on and get over it.

  • No real emotion, just mannerism.

  • 240p is the bane of my existence

  • What that f..ers made with legend of Joy Division!

  • I love the Killers, honestly, but I really can't love this song. In my opinion, this is a poor cover of Joy Division's original. It's a shame...

  • @Aliouxie12 Yeah right, first of all lots of artist do covers of other artist song's and they turn out great, this is a great song. I also like Joy Division, and in this case The Killers did a great job with this cover. There's nothing to complain about this song.

  • @69charger440sixpack

I feel like they didn't capture the darkness of the time, or what Ian Curtis was going through. I feel like they lost the essence of the song. Anyway, the operative words are, "I feel...". You can have your own opinion on it, but I am in disagreement.

  • @Aliouxie12 Yeah i agree that you don't have to like the song, but you are looking at it through the wrong eyes. You think that the killers were trying to capture the same essence of the song that Curtis was going for, but they were not. The killers were making their own version of the song, which has to ressemble it somewhat for it to be a tribute. Like when the doors did a tribute to the song "Gloria" by Them. The doors were not trying to copy it , they made it their own.

  • this is murdering Original Shadowplay..this sucks!! BIG TIME.

  • Too far from JD...

  • this sucks, even sounds like a happy song

  • Bouffons !!

  • Not to mention the choirs ! Poor people, nothing to say...

  • it sucks, especially the vibratos in the vocals, as well as the guitar. In short, just the intro is ok.

Obviously, you don't believe a word of what you are singing, man.

  • Wait, did I miss a memo or something!? Since when did everyone agree on The Killers being a bad band?

  • esta en mi cabesa tu tu tu turutu

  • I literally feel sick. These faggots need to fuck off. Fact is, this band hasn't released a good album since their debut.

  • @Carthsgtr ....When we were young.

  • Too clean and crisp this version thus it betrays the meaning and sound of the original without improving it.

  • Total Crap, I Have heard bands in my Local pub, Do a better version than this, Over hyped load of shite.. Modern bands suck

  • ...Andare a Fanculo!!! Ian Curtis si rivolterebbe nella tomba...Joy Division per sempre (forever)..!!

  • I'm sure this has already been posted, but w/e.

    FUCK VEVO!!!!!

  • JOY DIVISION >>>>>>>>>>>>>> THIS SHIT

  • @Draisser You forgot to say "in my opinion", dumbass

  • @singeikun Fuck Off

  • @Draisser That's the exact reply I was expecting. :)

  • @singeikun oh great

  • Typical camp crap from a modern band

  • I hate to be negative, but this really is quite bad... does something of a disservice to the original, I think... The killers really need to stick to their own dancey poppy stuff and leave the dark, moving songs to the men who can actually pull it off.

  • fuckin haters, if you dont like it dont listen to it stupid, you dont have to bash it.

  • this is a horrible cover by a horrible band and nin covers of joy division are for homo sexuals

  • the killers are pathetic

  • This version is terrible! They should donate all the money they made off of this song to an epilepsy foundation in honor of Ian Curtis, that's the only way to make this right!

  • fuck this bullshit.............should be ashamed they tried to cover JOY division......assholes

  • Cover attempts are always risky... sometime bad, sometimes good and very few times better.

This is not an exception.. they tried and for someone without any knowledge over JD legacy will be nice but for a JD core fan this is outrageous and kind of insulting.

This is what freedom supposed to be... no barriers to sing and no limits to listen.

Enjoy or Hate at your will.

  • Sorry girls, leave the covers to Nine inch nails.

  • can't compare this to JD. The song just lacks the original bass and of course the IAN factor.

  • a bit biblical maybe it is what want

  • Ogghh for Christ' sakes...is THIS a cover of Joy Division's masterpiece? NO...THIS is be the faggot version of Shadowplay, THIS IS A SHAME.

  • disgusting. the most abnoxious film clip ever, like yeah, sure, you knew it was going to be shit given not only that it was a cover but that it was some poxy band....and the song itself what as I expected....I'd never listen to it again but you're like 'yeah at least they have good taste in what they go off' but this film clip was just an abomination, did they do it deliberately, just to ensure it was crap??

....this comment was writen while listening to the original...

  • THIS IS SHIT ITS A CORNY TEENY BOPPERS SHIT VERSION OF A GREAT SONG. ANYONE WHO LIKES THIS VERSION IS A WANKER.

  • Oooh I 4got to add that personally I am 'not' into The Killers, BUT 'this' one song they cover IS one I do like of their attempts, so go figure. Must be because the bones & genious works by Ian + band members was already created. I think Killers have potential & if not so over 'industried' they could create better. The layers and focus of each instrument was always the thing that caught me 'many' years ago. I was blessed to have had relatives from UK who sent me albums back in the day. ;)

  • IF I may interject about how the Killers came to do this version for those that 'may' not be fully aware of the road taken by the genious visionary that IS Anton Corbijn. CONTROL is based on Ian Curtis' life more than Joy Div. as a whole which he fully discloses within the 'extras' that you can see on the DVD. I 'really' rec. you buy or borrow this movie (in Canada it is avail. in many regional libraries). Anton says also he 'chose' Killers to do the cover for movie & had to convince them. ;)

  • They should have broken a bass over the head of the producer and then knocked this out in one take before he came to. Then it might have been as raw as it's supposed to be.

  • @portraitofsound1, sorry but being the perfectionist i am, i meant "ripping off"

  • @portraitofsound1, that's precisely the problem, "clean, poppy version", as purists like myself prefer the passionate raw spontaneity that JD provided, esp. live, in their brief tenure of which only a select few have captured since, but do admire killers for at least acknowledging the influence w/o ripping of a similar song & then pretending to be "original".

  • sound like new oder not joy division

  • why must every fag indie band ruin Joy Division songs?

  • @DORIOR cuz they suck and need to copy something with real music talent.

  • Do people not understand, this is not "MTV driven shit" or some kind of money making scheme from the killers. They just covered a song from one of their favourite bands who also happen to be one of their heaviest influences. their not trying to better this song, they are simply paying tribute to one of the greatest bands. (rant over)

  • @shedendboy1 Don't tell the dead what they hate.

  • Ian Curtis, Would hate this MTV Driven, Garbage. Well done Killers, You have killed this classic, How apt.

  • It sounds like a modern clean version of Joy Division I dig Joy Division and I dig The Killers....

  • esto es un asco!!! les quedo muy mal este cover.. el mejor grupo JOY DIVISION con shadowplay

  • Oh, and I first really heard Joy Division in the original release version of Donnie Darko. (And I never would have given Southland Tales a try had I not seen Donnie Darko. Why? "The Rock" was in it, and I will just say politely that I don't care for the phenomenon of the WWE or its products. I'll leave it at that.) Sometimes it pays to look past our prejudgements & give the threatening new artifact a run-through.

  • Covers are a rough ride. Devotees will rarely accept them; that's understandable. Our first exposure to a song binds us to a particular time & place in our lives. I draw & paint, can't play but sing along. A musician singing a song they love, even if they didn't write it, is no affront in my book. There's always been "MTV driven shit", & that's before MTV was even created. I first heard The Killers used in a Nike commercial. PUUUKE. After seeing Southland Tales, I went & bought Hot Fuss. Yow.

  • this song is called shadowplay (IT SOUNDS LIKE A SHADOWPLAY!!! AND PEOPLE WHO HATE IT GET A LIFE!!!) or something like that...

  • cant understand why some people view a video just to slate it ??? GET A LIFE and go watch something you actually like. why waste time if you think its shit

    simples :)

  • What a shitty and unappropriate video for this song!

  • YEAH! Det er bare skide fedt!

  • a piece of crap !

  • All this proves, Is that Joy division are so much a better band, Than this MTV Driven shit.

  • it's nice that a contemporary pop group has decided to bring back the name and sound of an amazing band, a wonderful and unique chapter in the history of music...but no cover of a joy division piece could do it justice. simply because it's not joy division. it could never have that same incredible energy. it could never pierce your body and soul as they did.

  • reported to youtube for promoted terrorism.

i literally want to fly a plane into brandon whatshisnames face after hearing this piece of shit excuse for a cover. hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo.

  • huuu - huuu - huu - huuuu? Seriously?

  • I like both. how bout that.

  • complete murder of the original

  • i love the song but im afraid the video kills it :o(

  • Wow, this sucks. I honestly feel bad for Killers fans who think this is good. Whatever, fuck'em.

  • This is garbage.. an ass rape of the original

  • The Killers>Joy Division. This version is just a lot more upbeat and smoother. Love It!

  • Love this version!!!!

  • This sounds just like one of those cheapo pub and club tribute bands. Possibly an even bad karaoke night....

  • @OfficerMudkip nothing can be better than the original because without the original this would never exist. It's an ok cover though.

  • @wowhelloashleigh I agree, actually.

  • Not to be a troll, but, "This is a.... FUCK" It sounds like something some kid made in his attic with a casio keyboard.

  • gawd awful

  • Sounds like the "dance" version! I like the Killers, but nothing compares to Joy Division. They made only 2 albums & led the new wave in music! They performed live better than their recordings!!

  • Dreadful, just unforgivably bad

  • the killers pwned this song. i dont care if its not the original and most of you who say this version is sucks just dont like to admit the killers own this cuz you like to give it up to a classic and i can respect that but still. this is less of a cover and more of a revision in a different direction.

  • TERRIBLE......

  • its not that its that bad you just think its fucking woeful because of the original

  • @zaniac1000 You really are a cunt aren't you?

  • horrible...sorry.

  • I tried to enjoy this song, I gave it a fair chance and it truly ruins an incredible song. If you listen to the original and then this back-to-back, its embarassing

  • Ian Curtis must be crying right now.

  • no me gustaron los hu hu hu hu hu hu hu

  • what the fuck is this shit?? this is just terrible...an insult too joy division

  • This cover is pure shit, no band eccept New Order can cover Joy Division!

  • @yusuk364 And The Distillers too mate

  • whatd you guys expect, some one with the EXACT same voice and sound? jeez, if you want to hear something exactly the same as joy division THEN GO LISTEN TO JOY DIVISION.

  • when you cover something it shouldnt be a imitation. it shuld be unique different and alot of the time different style.

  • this is truly terrible. ruins a great song.

  • TWEE

  • This cover sucks!

  • if you like this cover you must have a vagina

  • joy divisions shadowplay is wayyyyy better, more raw, more dark, and bass heavy.

  • good cover...

  • Is anyone else impressed by the quality and merit of the video? Im glad that I found it, perfect timing

  • shit sucks, don't ruin a good song people

  • Like the video utterly estupid...

  • It's a good version, but, this video sucks!!!!!!!!

  • ɟı noʎ uɐɔ pɐǝɹ sıɥʇ ǝʌıƃ ɐ sqɯnɥʇ dn

  • yikes! Crap!! He's not even on pitch..the ambiance and meaning is ripped to shreds. Congrats Killers.. you suck.

  • @MadMadamJess No congratulations to you, you have an opinion and you're not afraid to share it. Too bad no one cares.

  • @blahblablalltimelow I'll take that congrats and raise you a contradiction...you cared enough to respond. ;-)

    xoxoxo -jess

  • THIS IS COMEDY!!! Ruined propperly.

  • Yeah kind of like this verison a little better, but Joy Divison's verison is awesome too. Just I am 20 years old so I know a little more about The Killers over Joy Division. Yeah which I am sorry I didn't grow up around the time of Joy Divison, it would have been great.

  • Sounds like he totally missed the depth of the song, the vocals just don't convey the same meaning. And that little "woo" at 2:25, what the hell? Terrible cover. Cringe-worthy.

  • co za gówno! cioty a nie zabójcy!

  • I enjoy the Killers because they are influenced by Joy Division and New Order. The tribute is greatly appreciated.

  • joy division > the killers but i think it's cool they made a cover, right? kinda cool.....ish.

  • Why does everybody put a label on you, just because you like the killers? i really love joy division, but this cover isn't bad either! and if you listen the killers why are you less alternative? who cares? just listen what you like, not what other people tell you to like or what is more alternative!

  • @Pienhoofd I think the whole badge of "alternative" has become so blurred that there is no real definition anymore. Nowadays, I think it's more of something that isn't traditional rock and even that might not be right. Back in the 90s, it was anything that wasn't mainstream or that you'd more likely hear on college radio.

I think 90s alt has become the equivalent of 2010s indie.

  • now i know why they're called the killers

  • Personally, I like this cover, possibly because I heard it before I heard the original. I think this version is not as simple and haunting. But it's still very good in its own way.

  • @crystalconnect93 you don't think JD's version is haunting? Ian's voice alone is haunting enough (so there's no confusion, I am a long-time Joy Division fan).

This isn't a bad cover. I like the original better, but I wouldn't be ashamed to have this one in my collection. On a scale from A to F, I give it a B+

  • cool vid mang. but joy division all the way

  • lol

  • What a pile of shite!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fucking garbage

  • killers ruined this song! JOY DIVISION WAS WAY BETTER!

  • horrifying.

  • i like the killers, but the killers killed this song lol. i'll stick to Joy Division

  • I feel sorry for those who made the clip. It is almost sacrilege.

  • @gayakah its so gay its good

  • love the video

  • fuck the killers!
