  • What a waste of time. The making of more 'leaders' without finding out what life's aboutr. Don't lead if you don't know what you're doing for sure!!

  • Truly inspirational

  • Thank you for posting this video :

  • Hello! Have you ever tried Cashinizer (do a google search)? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cousin made tons of cash practically overnight with it. ;D

  • Brilliant presentation. People do look for commonalities and want to belong to something bigger. Simply, we all have friends. You pick your friends for a reason. They "feel" right to your tribe in life. It's a great way to think when applying to other areas of business and life.

  • great talk and great ideas made interesting and motivating. I like it. I will do it. atleast try it.

  • A SUPER PRESENTATION SETH! The Beautiful Minds Inc. movement/tribe/ collective is looking forward to connect with you on a personal level. Regards,

  • Love Seth Godin!

  • he's a genius. FAVORITE.

  • I also don't think he is arguing in favor of anarchy or revolution, but he has merely exploited the techniques of revolution to market products. I fear that if I wasn't so ignorant about this matter, I'd probably hate his guts for this blatant offense.

  • Cool Video! Visit my channel for more marketing tips.

  • He describes fictionalization; partisan human behavior. The truth behind this is that the world is feudal. Democracy, fascism, ect it is all the same behavior.

The modern feudal system is as dangerous as in the time of kings and robber barons, the reason; you cannot have a government without it. The truth behind that is; humans have replaced every natural predator they used to have. The effect this has is that most factions are opposites and the one that survives is the one that is right.

  • Interesting Very Interesting. I will keep an eye on your profile

  • I would love to be a leader and start a movement.

  • FUCK AL GORE.. HES A MORON AND HE PUSHES WHAT IS PROVEN TO BE FALSE SCIENCE.. i care about the ecology, and pollution and the planet but MAN MADE global warming is complete BULLSHIT. its been PROVEN.

    'tedsters' are retards..

  • @AbattoirDream Go away then.

  • @linkfan22 LOL!!! I'm just thrilled that you watched it. What did you think?

  • @cdstern

From 11 minutes should be listened to three times over

  • Change the Patent and copyright "laws" and this would help us humans re: Global "warming", it wouldn't make the per$ons very happy thou! (this sentence makes perfect sense, if you dont understand it, that is your own lack of education... get a law dictionary and look up PERSON) You are NOT a person you HAVE a Per$on.

  • Thank you for sharing. I am and will follow your words Mr Godin. Thank you TED. TEDx in Melbourne tomorrow!!

  • love that fireman photo..... its gold.

  • Seth, Thank you! You've reminded why I am a teacher of our youth and how I can lead more effectively, while helping both teens and their parent to lead "brand-free" lives. I'm lookin' for constructive comments on my "Building Minds" vid...thanks again, BK

  • "Global warming" is a tax scam... what else would a politician create?

  • @texme Yup, but it doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

  • 8:53

  • Very very interesting!

  • How about 108 Million Teachers of Peace?

  • Inspired by this video, I began a movement last night. I am its only member so far but information about how to get on board is posted all over my home town. If I get even one person to pay attention I a happy.

  • Good video.

  • Right.

  • yeah it is. thanks for sharing it wit me.

  • Outstanding! This message has been given by others but never with such elequency and said in plain terms. It gives us rebels a reason for why we are the way we are. Now I know. Now, just have to create my Movement. Thank you,

  • I have always loved Seth Godin. We are all in need of community.

  • he looks like dr.evil!

  • Great Video

  • AWESOME!

  • So lets get rid of political borders and just fight each other groups. I'll join the gamblers and bet on the Red Hat Athletes vs. the Ret Hat Ladies.

  • lol @ cqagpu....

  • Brilliant presentation, got to be in my top 5 TED presentations.

  • 14:15

    "Who are you upsetting?"

  • Facebook "causes/group" are an opportunity to create fans, tribes and from there change. "Its not about the mass, its about belonging...".

  • He didnt break the lightbulb,,,

  • that was funny

  • Yeah, as I child you do not thik about rights management ;) You just share what you can give away without losing it. :) right?

  • The Zeitgeist Movement is one example.

  • The interconnected kindle. I was dreaming about stuff like this in high school. Too bad I chose the wrong subject...

  • which is what?

  • Kindle without DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) could help ;)

  • This guy is talking about bona fide anarchy... tribes ftw lol

  • I don't think Mr. Godin is arguing for anarchy, I think he is describing reality and suggesting how to bring something better and more beautiful out of the disorganization that already exists.

  • hmm...the people commenting on this video are saying more complicated things than just "pwned! lol! omfg fag"...perhaps there is hope for the human species after all

  • I hear ya. There's always hope. We are legion.

  • actually...No...there really is no hope for the human species...one day we'll fizzle out like a bad fart and the earth will shake us off like a bad case of fleas...I'm hoping pretty soon actually...and deservingly so...mankind is a virus in shoes...

  • im not wearing shoes

  • brilliant words, sir. I guess humans could have done a little bit more with our time here.

  • Mongolenpup. Do us all a favor if you hate us so much. Serve Gaia and self teminate. Show us how much you believe you self hating enviromental whacko.

  • huh?...lol...I'm not an enviromental whacko...I'm the complete opposite...you're just an idiot...it's basic logic...it is said the earth has been here 4 and a half BILLION years...we've been here 100 000, maybe 200 000 years and have only been engaged in heavy industry for a little over 200 years...4 and half billion years vs. 200...the earth isn't going anywhere...we are...I'm not hateful...I'm just stating the obvious...well...for me it's obvious...

  • and you're probably veeeeeery well informed ;p

  • once agian, the simplicity of being a genious...

  • Really powerful talk

  • BLAH BLAH and BLAH, stupid bald headed pencil neck freak

  • I am just reading his book.

And his talk is even better !

  • ....

  • Seth rocks my socks!

  • Simply awesome. Another fantastic, inspiring and challenging TED talk which has gone straight into my favourites. *****

  • I'm surprised that he didn't speak at all about following. Nothing gets done when everyone thinks they're a leader. Following wisely is just as/or more important as trying to be a "tribe" leader.

Interesting talk, but very repetitive and his various internet photo snags were a bit boring.

  • I like this talk alot because it touches how people really think and why people lead.

  • This is so true!

I now find it hard to watch a video or read an article without needing a comment area to see what views other readers have.

youtube, liveleak, blogs they all connect us by allowing us to talk and share ideas ad views.

    Nice stuff

  • this guy is repeating a bunch of generic viewpoints weve been hearing for years "everything popular is wrong" - Oscar Wilde

  • Interesting talk. He has a very annoying voice. But interesting and inspiring talk. And great pictures.

  • I played this over and over, more than several times. Especially during uncertain times, understanding your fellow man becomes increasingly important. Anyone can be provide leadership in their expertise, and provide the confidence and direction to help improve the lot for many.

  • I don't get his point. The internet is homogenizing, not as divisive as he's making it sound. These tribes he keeps talking about are people coming together under separate topics of interest. Tribe sounds exclusive and against.

  • Some parts of what he says don't make that much sense to me. Maybe im missing something, i don't know

  • I completely disagree with him. I think that the Internet is very homogenizing.

  • all on the same internet, I could go out and find dozens of religious groups, atheist groups, environmental groups, anarchists, socialists, entertainment subcultures, groups that are both pro- and anti- pretty much any topic you can name and more. Hundreds of thousands of people use facebook, but no two of them have joined the exact same groups.

"Homogenizing"? I completely disagree with you.

  • I both agree and disagree.

I think what "the Internet" (if such a catch-all term is accurate and/or relevant) does is to allow the polarization of views. A religious fanatic trafficks only on sites that support fanaticism. An atheistic religious critic only visits skeptic sites. Articles I've read have spoken on how the "tribes" that Godin talks about wind up stamping out dissention by the endorsement of a singular, extreme viewpoint, rather than leading change.

    Isn't Al Qaeda a tribe?

  • Al Qaeda is an invention by the CIA.

  • But consider the big players on the Internet: Myspace, Facebook, and other such social networks. And Wikipedia too. I think that these things have a homogenizing effect because they unify people: social networks connect people and Wikipedia is like a global encyclopedia with depositories of knowledge written from a global perspective.

What I mean is that we are in an age of globalization, with international bodies like large companies playing a big part, and that the Internet is a part of this.

  • Nice one. I liked the other talk he did at the TED conference as well. He always has great visuals. I hope that they invite his back again.

  • I think he's right. Nice one Seth.

Many folk see m to see the optimism as a misguidance.

That there is some bad energy, so keep on smiling people.

The world might just smile back at you...

    ;-)

  • I really agree with this guy. The word itself, tribe, is just beginning to re-emerge in recent years.

  • One of the most important and best movements out there right now for ideas: TED. Definetly TED. Damn these speeches are good.

  • I started a tribe. I uploaded a torrent. I will seed it.

  • If you seed it, they will come.

  • lol.

  • I like the part where really smart people started to

talk to each other on the Net.

What it will mean isn't clear yet, but things are

    going to change.

  • Really smart folk are the ones who tend to make the biggest and most disgusting mistakes.

Do not allow really smart People to sit in one room together for too long....You'll usually end up with some type of Tyranny.

This man is a Fabien...I just wish they would spit it out and tell the World what their primary objective/s has been whilst they have waited in the Bushs....Whom do they seek to slay?

    (Change?)

    Peace n' Respect.

  • money is the catalyst for technology

  • No, on the contrary. It's the catalyst for corruption and greed.

  • but... but... greed is the catalyst for corruption....!

and value labeling is the catalyst for greed... which goes to show that it doesn't have to have the modern connotation known as money, could be any derivative.

    I'm confuszezezeddddd

  • So.. if the monetary system was no more, no selling or buying. Nothing worth stealing coz u could'nt sell it anyway and no advantages in collecting money or things in wast amounts, what would be the incentives for greed then? Nothing.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • The incentive for greed is not money, it's ownership/power, no money would not change that either.

  • a source of a medium which society will always continue to believe is valuable whether it would be ranking among society or greed, it will always be a source of catalyst. no developers would help without paying them or giving them something they want. people will always continue to seek new ways to make life easier but always at a price, this includes resource, underlings for labor. if you can goto a 3rd world country and create technological advances at a ^2 level without a medium. lmk.

  • See Zeitgeist..

  • whats your point? they create money out of thin air? its no different from digital medium where people play games and trade digital gold. aslong as people believe in the value and easier to barter it all people will continue to use it. if you want to stop it be my guess... but don't bring your ideals to me. i really don't care.

  • yawn..

  • people will always stand apart. people instinct is believing in ranks and status among society. would you really want yourself to be like someone the same as you? ofc not. you want to be better. thats just how humans are. people will never see each other as one or the same. it is no different from you trying to share info and thinking your better and strutting with your "yawn" just because you have some sort of knowledge. what you should have said have you looked inside yourself? and have you?

  • well said.

  • u are one sry ass excuse of a human being, go and die bitch.

  • back to you

    2-0

  • hey kaxitaksi, ur the one who believe in zeitgiest, then don't pay for ur internet and dont ever use it again... no one likes ur attitude. it will save us all the trouble from your retardism. u fuking pedofile teddy bear loving piece of shit. 3-0

  • dauern: Hey u little utube Troll. Honestly I don't think anyone on utube are interested in ur ranting about and name calling others. Why don't u just log off, grow a brain and come back when u have matured a bit? And if ur pity little ego so much require it, let's say u "win" shall we? :))

  • me troll? i don't go around playing on the internet most of the time. instigating., i actually work and have a life. 4-0

  • You mean the thing that was proved wrong over and over by any living being with a minimum of common sense an expertise in science and anthopology?

  • you should remove yourself before you further make an ass of yourself. Almost all wars were waged either in pursuit of greater wealth and/or power or to destroy a different religion. I too think the resource-based system proposed by zeitgeist might work. The biggest requirement is that people should be mature and intelligent and understand the importance in working to keep society running rather than working for money. Unfortunately majority of people are greedy ignorant pricks.

  • I toke 24/7

  • Im so sorry.

  • he is so wrong about the Beatles and Marley....... Other wise, he makes some interesting points.

  • What he describes seems like an interest group, but a slightly more intense version of that. Using the word 'trube' seems much less 1st-world and more of a core-principles kind of deal which may tend to attract those in need of a deep sense of belonging.

  • Alright, only 24 hours to start a movement, GO!

  • I used to think Seth didn't really have anything to say... but after this I'm convinced I was wrong.

  • Thank goodness mainstream politics do not understand this yet. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to bring change about...

  • Are you serious when You say thank goodness MS Politics do not understand this yet???

    Seriously!?

Politics works on a similar principle...The Hegalian Dialectic..or more simply ..Problem-Reaction-Solution.

    Thats Politics.

    Peace and Respect.

  • To some of the comments below... You're here aren't you? Yeah, YOU! Here. On the internet. Youtube. TED. You are already apart of something big. What has the internet brought? Why are you here? Thanks for being! +_+

  • This is pretty myopic. The internet is as divisive and distractive as it is unifying, and the unity is not based on forged inter-personal relationships. What he calls tribes others might call faddists.

  • He's not talking solely about the internet, and if he's talking about internet at all it's about internet as a means to an end.

  • And to which end do they seek?

  • That's a wrong conception; you do not seek to an end, you merely have an end. The end is connection, period.

  • he's wrong, they smash a wine glass, not a light bulb in a red bag.

  • timothy leary hit that one back in the 60's with "find the others". and screw Al Gore...

  • HA exactly! and Obama too...

  • The One Hundredth Monkey Concept.

    Look it up.

    Smile, it's good for you.

  • He's right about the tribe effect on the web. I don't know how good or bad it is but I see it all the time. Good tribes and bad tribes you know.

  • Exactly. He's overly optimistic, and ignores the fact that this idea works just as well for people with bad ideas that they think are "important", and the sheep who will follow them.

  • just as there are causes and groups for good, there are also groups and causes for bad...

i dont see what your point is

  • Well, he works with marketing. Marketing experts are always overly optimist.

  • Yeah, of course there's good and bad everywhere.. So that's where we have to make a choice ! And how would we advance if just let bad ideas take us down..

  • I do think that the human race is advancing, but the remnants of the original tribes (religion, nationalism, etc.) are making progress painfully slow.

  • how can you say that? explain the "holy inquisition" and how they threatened galileo with death if he did not take back his heliocentric universe? and all the bullshit Christans are doing against stem cell research? not allowing biopsy's? and dont get me started on the pope. millions of people have been destroyed in the name of god. how many people died in the name of science? oh yeah! the scientists! you are a idiot for making that claim. you should be ashamed of your stupidity.

  • Stem cell research? Galileo? The pope? Wow you really showed him. We're all basking in your intellect.

  • just could not resist..... kind of impulsive with things like that.

  • The problem with stem-cell research is not about the stem cells but about how they are obtained.

  • Please read my replies to MetalSupra1982 about science and religion.

  • Galileo was highly honored most of his life, it was just this brief period in the 1630s when it all caved on in him. The trial of Gallileo is much more complex than the simplistic ''science versus the Church'' caricature. There are a lot of myths surrounding it.

  • There was a book published where the Church censor wrote, ''We are honored to be living in a time when Gallileo is alive, because it will bring glory on us and our Church and our city.'' And he was right. And even crazier is that after the trial when Gallileo was sentenced to house arrest and the Cardinal Siena said, How about my house? I would love to have you! Because the other the rich people will come and hear you talk dinner table talk.
