  • God I wish somebody could/would delete this.

  • OH MY GOD MY EARS GOD DAMN IT YOU SCARED ME TO DEATH.

  • WOaH.... AUDIO EPIC FAIL !

  • just upload this clip again, than the sound will be.

  • @pablosio94 I did that. The link is in the description as well as in the red annotation that pops on at the beginning of the video.

    watch?v=6Aqh11FoYhg

  • @lumopix Thanks for uploading it again, but you really should delete this one. I've clicked this at least five or six times over the past couple years. It's annoying.

  • @MckyMseNTarotCrds There are a bunch of links to this page that would get broken. I'd rather leave this up ...along with all the witty comments.

  • the same thing happened to most of my videos - the audio disappeared, BUT just like my videos this video DOES have sound if you view it using the YouTube app on an iPhone!

  • WTF

  • The idea of a music video where you can see them playing, but hear nothing, is really cool for an intro. Doesn't work for the whole song, though!

  • @atmhso -I've put up a new higher-res version complete with the audio that YouTube killed. YT will not let me link to it here though.

  • @lumopix Gotcha.

  • I dont hear anything. TT-TT

    this sucks!!!

  • @ktrany55 -I've put up a new higher-res version complete with the audio that YouTube killed. YT will not let me link to it here though.

  • this is good shit!!!!!!!!

  • The video from Breton2Robert called: Colorful And Irresistible Clara Bow. Its very good and colorful

  • This song is a little masterpiece.

  • Videos that flash up the lyrics are quite irritating generally -- the point of a song is that we, erm . . . listen to it.

    Fabulous tune. :)

  • @Pumiceous The on-screen lyrics were at the request of KH.

  • @lumopix Well. Bad choice. Love the song though.

  • If I ever meet Kristin, I will give her a big big big hug, and thank her for all the great music over the years. MUSES RULE!

  • Horrible video for a great song.

Dear Kristin: please stop putting your kids on your records and in your videos. You are of the rare breed of artist that continues to make incredible art despite having children. Let's not push it.

  • Anyone know why they titled it Clara Bow?

Can't find any references to 1920's starlets, but ehy, great song and Clara was a great woman :D

  • I saw 50 Foot Wave at the Mercury Lounge in NYC in 2006, Rob Ahlers stole the show.

  • This song is absolutely brilliant (Kristin can never go wrong), but the video doesn't do it justice -- great photography and everything, but it just doesn't fit the song

(never mind though, Kristin is fantastic anyway) :)

  • DAMN! I love love love this song! I love love love 50 ft wave! Kristins voice is ridiculously wicked!

  • I quite like how a Gibson SG looks on the amazing Kristin.

  • I have one of those guitars. They are great. I think any guitar on Kristin looks great. She still rocks out big time.

  • o_o Wow..the vocals to this song are mezmerizing..very catchy and yet unique at the same time

  • lol i like this now :D

  • and you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

i myself love those very collisions, and don't think the transitions could have been handled more masterfully. they're one of the things that define early Throwing Muses and make that first album, with its exquisitely chaotic feel, one of my favorites.

  • well i guess its not a bad song its just not my kind of music

  • Exactly. Different strokes for different folks!

  • (is that the great Bodhi throwing himself around there? :)

  • It's actually Wyatt. Bodhi was still a baby when we made this.

  • ah, k. it's a magnificent video, btw. the photography is just top-notch...that contrasty contrast is gorgeous (i'm a photographer if you couldn't tell ;). bra-freakin'-vo, sir. bravo.

  • damn. what a great video!

  • Great Song! I love it ^0^ Thanks for uploading the video ;D

  • Well, if your reference standard for greatness is John Denver's Annie's Song, then yeah, I guess it sucks! OMG! LOL!!!

  • Martin Newell recorded a song titled "Clara Bow" with the Cleaners from Venus in the late 70's-early 80's. I think a lot of songwriters are drawn to this subject. Kristin does well with it too.

  • Great song. Thanks so much for posting. I'm pretty sure everybody knew who Clara Bow was if they searched this song and really appreciates your efforts. It's a vintage peice, in a way, just by association.

  • Excellent.

  • I love Kristen Hersch's singing, but doesn't the lead riff sound vaguely reminsicent of the Buzzcocks' "Fast Cars"?

  • Ms Hersh may as well have called it "Jim Morrison". I was merely pointing out an effect of incongruity. Nor do I expect a direct relation to an "immediate manifestation". See I AM THE WALRUS, FROM A BUICK SIX, SHAMAN'S BLUES, or DANCING MADLY BACKWARDS (on a sea of air) as examples. I'll look into Prefab Sprout as well, thank you much. Might be better for MS Hersh herself to clarify the matter.

  • Kristin damn sure knows who Clara Bow is. After Clara Bow retired, she moved out to the desert with her husband and sons and then lost control of her brain. That inspired this song.

  • THANK YOU. No manifestations of immediate title here, I presume Clara Bow is the subject (but that message was a little confused). But yeah, it could be I am the walrus, something wicked this way comes, the kids don't get it, or best of all "The Piano Has Been Drinking - Not me" by Tom Waits. I won't be led into anything. This has been enough, and i know a lot about music and don't need the philosophic bulsh**t. It's a good song. Oh, and Kristin knows. We're on a first name basis?

  • a lot of her fans call her by her first name. she's a very accessible person. once you have a good idea of who She is and how she views herself, her fan base and her "stardom," calling her "Kristin Hersh" - especially in a conversation in which everybody knows which Kristin you're talking about - feels inappropriately stiff and distant, like calling someone you know more personally by their full name every time you mention them to a mutual friend. it's formal to the point of awkwardness.

  • I'll take that into consideration.! "Clara" was an artist I discovered after the fact. This makes it all the more sweet. I've listened to Indie for ages, but somehow missed "Clara." I was certainly aware of Throwing Muses and Tanya Donelly's solo and band eforts, but not Kristin Hersh's solo efforts.I can go back and collect all her CDs and experience them as something new. There was this great band and they went on to do great solo careers. For some reason, "Strings" reached out to me. Thanks.

  • yes! and do NOT overlook Hips and Makers. i personally think it's Her solo masterpiece. of course, you know what they say about opinions...

  • I have to concur with your opinion! I have the CD and absolutely love it.

  • that's great. :)

hey, if you want to become more familiar with the Woman behind the music (as well as the hilarious genius of Her sons), follow @kristinhersh on twitter. you'll feel like She's your friend in no time. at least i did.

  • What does this song have to do with Clara Bow?

Why call it that? Has Kristin Hersh even seen any of her films? What could she possibly know about Clara Bow? Perhaps she should take a look -- she might learn something -- if nothing else.

  • Goodness, aren't we prickly! My understanding of the creative process is that words, titles and images may be symbolic or iconic (something CB certainly is) and open to interpretation. If you insist that every title directly relate to its most immediate manifestation, you're going to be disappointed time and time again. I especially recommend that you do NOT listen to Prefab Sprout's album "Steve McQueen". In any case, you can rest assured that Kristin knows who Clara Bow is.

  • Yep, so in other words the meaning of this song's title may not be what it appears. If you believe this to be so, you'll be disappointed. Never use one word when ten (or in this case 20) will do.

  • jebala te clara bow u dupe sa velikim crnim dildom.

  • "it's so sad when people listen to the lyrics...talk about telling a dream at the water cooler"

    - Kristin Hersh

  • Kristin Hersh is awsome!

  • I love this tune.

I added a cover of Glory Weed to my profile if anyone cares :)

  • nope.... no one does :P

  • i care, nice cover

  • Turn the sound off, you'll be able to read it better.

  • Man I loved this band, they are all about my age so I guess that i'm not the only folk in his late 30's that hasn't really grown up!!

  • GUH!

  • I'm trying to figure out why they called the song "Clara Bow." I can't make any connection.

  • The first time I heard Kristin's voice back in the 90s I pictured her to look like a tall skinny wasted junky. Now, she looks so fresh and healthy. and here she even looks like Hillary Clinton! hmmmm, maybe Hillary clinton shoots up some smack?

  • Hey where can I find the lyrics to this song?

    just kidding

  • Ha!

  • no seriously, where can i find the lyrics...im dyslexic...and youtube doesnt play videos in reverse.....

  • she means Tsunami imbeciles.her second name is jenny t.

  • huh? That makes no sense toomey.

  • agreed.they are swindling us.damn sisters.

  • Holy Crap she looks like my MOM 0_o..............always wondered where she was sneaking of to. ^_^ great band 20/10

  • And when she goes on tour, she does it with the whole family : she's got four sons, the elders take care of the younger ones. Their father, Kristin's husband, drives the bus.

  • Now I know what she's saying! Definitely one of my fav songs.

  • Holy Cats!!!

the wave may outshine the muse....maybe

  • she is not popular because she don't show t-n-a like all the other crappy artist...i mean useless performers..wait...not artist, not performers...just crap...kristen is totally underated and ignored...not by us...people who don't know great music...

  • but she's one of the best.

    i mean,

    it's a very original sound,

and every fucking note is perfect.

maybe it shouldn't be popular for some reason we might not know.

  • original...perfect....these are not ingredients for making it in the most dicusting so called music industry.....

  • BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH!!!

Kristin is the shit; why isn't she more famous? It isn't fair...

  • I agree! She is definitely an underated artist!

  • oh god i love this woman

i'm just tripping off listening to golden ocean right now, LOVE IT.

  • Seriously, that this woman is not packing arenas just blows my mind. So. Totally. Underrated. I hear ya sistah, and so do my neighbors.

  • this Woman is not packing arenas because most people just are not ready for Her. She's not pop. Tanya's more pop; Kristin's more eclectic. Her stuff is way too sophisticated for the vast majority. which is not to say that Tanya's isn't sophisticated - it certainly is...it's just put to more readily accessible music. it's sophistopop. Kristin's is the sophisto without the pop. nothing wrong with that, as we well know... :)

  • By far the most underrated most talented woman in my life time!! K.Hersh= genius!

  • 50 Foot Wave yeah!!! this was on RoughTrades' CounterCulture '04

  • The "I" on Kristin's forehead gets a laugh every time. Great video.

  • Sawem open for Mission of Burma....what a great set they played!

  • kristin rocks!

  • Wow.

  • Simply excellent. Thank you very much, Kristin, for not giving up on music!

  • Fuck yeah 50 Foot Wave are awesome

  • extraordinary piece of music and lyrics. the hersh kicks it.
